Applying CBE approach to an English language school

Stakeholder and Goal
A CBL system is designed to créate self-directed, future focused, life
long learners. A key designed premise is that the student is the engine
of learning.
Talk to the stake holder, in this case, the coordinator, about how the
CBE implementation fits the institutional mission and vision and all the
methodology.
An talk to the Institute´s owner to better understand the effect on all
business.
Next Steps or something to try
The next steps to move this idea forward would be to talk with student
that are keen on the idea of achieving a very high level in their English
language speaking skills. Like in all schools there are student leaders
that has the power to encourage or influence their classmates to follow
some things. In this case is a very positive transformation.
I want to talk to the owner to explain him that competencies of a CBE
program for language teaching should be aligned with competencies
expected in the graduated students according to the commitment that
the Institute makes to people when they decide to register.
Next Steps or something to try
I want to start the implementation of the CBE approach in the
conversation club, designing a new grading system that maybe would
not have an oficial or real impact in the final grades of the students to
determine i they can pass to the next lessons or levels but it would help
students to be more aware of their real proficiency in speaking or in
English conversation.
And since graduated students can continue attending the conversation
club, the CBE implementation could encourage them to attend more
the club, because it would help them to measure their performance
and therefore to keep on working hard to achieve the excellence.
Strenghts
One aspect of our school or organization´s culture or structures that
will enable growth and change.
The current educational system used in the Institute “Inglés Individual”
is based in competencies, because every student needs to show his
proficiency and mastery in the four basic language skills like speaking
and writing.
Students need to pass a written and an oral practice after very two
lessons and very ten lessons, they also need to write a short story to
show their writing skills and after that they have to read and comment
their stories to practice their conversation skills.
Strengths
In the case that students can´t pass the written test they can ask for an
advisory session to understand all the topics from two lessons and then
to master them.
Using that example, I wanna apply a similar process to the conversation
club.
In my institute “Inglés Individual” the age range from students is
around fifteen to thirty five years old. Most of the students are in the
university or they are already graduated so I have seen that for many of
them it would be really meaningful if sometimes teachers could focus
the topics according to their careers or specializations.

Personal Reflection on CBE
Icare about CBE because I am an English Teacher and I want to be a
better teacher, since I didn´t exactly study to be a teacher, I´mean I
didn´t study pedagogy but I want to know at least about the newest
approaches or methodologies in the education field and therefore to
teach my students in the best way possible.
Also I think that Competency Based Education is a very funny and
interesting approach because it lets you to spend more useful time
with students and to make all kind of activities and to use technology
to design real interactive lessons.
An aspect of CBE you´re still curious about and

I wanna know more about technologies or particulary software that
aligns or can be applied to the CBE approach.
Also I´m still curious about all the consequences of implementing CBE
in a school like mine, and of course I would know that until I really
apply this proposal in the Institute.
Also I wannna find out how this approach has been implemented in
public schools from Mexico.
