En un lugar sin nombre del África subsahariana, Komana, una niña de catorce
años, le cuenta al hijo que crece dentro de ella la historia de su vida durante
la guerra civil. Todo empezó cuando, a los doce años, fue secuestrada por el
ejército rebelde e incluye en su historia el episodio en el que se enamora de
un niño soldado como ella, un albino llamado Magicien. La trama hace eco
de noticias actuales, sobre todo de aquello que sufren los niños soldados; lo
cual, al ser combinado con el pulso tembloroso de la cámara, sugiere que el
filme hace un esfuerzo consciente por dar la sensación de un documental.
Somewhere in an unnamed Sub-Saharan Africa, Komona, a 14-year-old girl,
tells her unborn child growing inside her the story of her life since the civil
war started. Everything started when she was abducted by the rebel army
at the age of 12, and includes her falling in love with a fellow child soldier,
an albino called Magicien. The plot points in this film by Kim Nguyen echo
newspaper stories on the contemporary crisis of child soldiers, which, when
combined with the shaky hand-held camera, suggest the film purposefully
strives for a documentary feel in between its phantasmagoric elements.

Nacido y criado en Amqui, Quebec, de
padre vietnamita y madre francocanadiense.
En 2002, Kim Nguyen escribió y dirigió
su filme debut, Le Marais, que recibió
seis nominaciones a los premios Jutra,
incluyendo mejor película y mejor director.
Su segundo filme, Truffe —que escribió,
dirigió y produjo—, le valió reconocimientos
internacionales, incluyendo Mejor película en
el Karlovy Vary Fresh Film Festival.

Born and raised in Amqui, Quebec, to a
Vietnamese father and a French Canadian
mother. In 2002, Kim Nguyen wrote and
directed his first feature film, Le Marais. It
received six Jutra nominations, including Best
Film and Best Director. His second
feature, Truffe —which he wrote, directed and
produced—, garnered international awards,
including Best Film at the Karlovy Vary Fresh
Film Festival.
