Grace and peace from our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ. We are
writing to you to inform you
about the Advent Giving Tree. This year, Kidz
University will be our recipient. They happen to
be a daycare center.
Kidz University opened its door in the year
2006. It is located in Passaic. It takes care of
children that come from low-income families.
These families have jobs, however they have no
means of paying for good quality daycare. Most
of the parents (if eligible) may apply for a grant
called 4C. This means that the government will
pay for the childcare or some of it. As of now,
they have 29 children from ages 1-7 years old.
They have 10 girls and 19 boys. They are opened
all year round.
They have given us a wish list. The items are the
following: toothpaste for children, wash
cloths, soap, lotion, shampoo (tear free),
tooth brushes, play dough, construction
paper, coloring books, musical instruments (toys), dolls, cars, hats and gloves,
kitchen toys (utensils), puzzles for children, shopping food baskets, cash registers, kid safe appliances (coffee makers,
blenders, mixers and toasters), plastic
balls, doll strollers and dinosaurs.
This event will run through November 26 to
December 11, 2016. All you do is take a tag
and buy the item. If you want to take more than
one you are welcome to do so. All items must be
brand new. Please no gift-wrap. If tags run out,
the list will be here in the bulletin.

Estimados Parroquianos y Amigos de la Iglesia de Santa María,
Gracia y paz de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. Le estamos escribiendo para informarle sobre el Árbol de Adviento.
Este año, Kidz University, será nuestro donaciones. Son una guardería.
Kidz University abrió sus puertas en el año
2006. Se encuentra en Passaic. Se ocupa de los
niños que provienen de familias de bajos ingresos. Estas familias tienen empleos, sin embargo
no tienen medios para pagar por una guardería
de buena calidad. La mayoría de los padres (si
son elegibles) pueden solicitar una subvención
llamada 4C. Esto significa que el gobierno pagará por la guardería o algo de ella. A partir de
ahora, tienen 29 niños de 1-7 años de edad. Tienen 10 niñas y 19 niños. Están abiertos todo el

(cafeteras, licuadoras, mezcladoras y tostadoras), pelotas de plástico, cochecitos para muñecas y dinosaurios.
Este evento se extenderá desde el 26 de noviembre hasta el 11 de diciembre de 2016. Todo lo
que haces es tomar una etiqueta y comprar el
artículo. Si desea tomar más de uno, puede hacerlo. Todos los artículos deben ser nuevos. Por

Who was Mona Lisa really?
The Mona Lisa is a painting of Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) where a woman appears with an enigmatic smile. The initial concept of creating this painting was born in 1503 and during the following
years Leonardo decided to paint what, perhaps, is one of his best known works. In 1995 a computer
graphic art specialist, Lilliam Schwartz, published in a scientific journal a theory regarding the Mona Lisa. According to Schwartz, the appearance of the woman in the painting belongs to Leonardo
himself. To prove this thesis, Schwartz measured the physical characteristics (separation of eyes,
nose height, mouth width, quadrature of the cheekbones and so on) from the artist's self-portraits
and compared them with those of the Mona Lisa.
The result of this computerized study that analyzes the several self-portraits that the artist painted
throughout his life, resulted in a theory that has left the artistic and intellectual environment surprised. However, the theory is not far-fetched since, in 1476, when da Vinci was 24, he was accused
of being homosexual. Although due to the prejudices of the time Leonardo had to hide his true sexual tendency, it is very possible that this painting is an inner dream; that of being a woman.
Previously it was thought that the Mona Lisa, also known as the Gioconda, was painted by da Vinci
for the wife of Francesco del Giocondo. This theory is documented in a biography of da Vinci which
was written shortly after the painter's death by Giorgio Vasan (1511-1574). According to this theory
Giocondo wanted a painting of his wife whose name was, precisely, Lisa del Giocondo, so in 1500 he
called the painter and ordered him to do the portrait.
Many writers and art historians have speculated about Da Vinci's relationship with the Mona Lisa,
and also about the meaning of her smile. Among myths, jokes and legends, it has been said that the
Mona Lisa’s smile is the way it is because her teeth were chipped and she did not want them to appear in the portrait Leonardo was making.
A different theory, which explains the picture and its relation to da Vinci's homosexuality, was published by Sigmund Freud, the father of psychology, who said da Vinci's painting had been painted in
honor of the painter's mother since he was in love with his own mother (Oedipus complex) which
justified his homosexuality.

PRAYER SERVICE, THIS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20TH AT 3PM.
The 35th annual Passaic Ecumenical Thanksgiving Prayer Service will be held at 3pm, this Sunday
November 20, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, corner of Passaic Ave and Lafayette Ave in Passaic.
The homilist will be the very Rev. John S. Custer, rector of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Cathedral
on First Street and administrator of several additional churches in the Byzantine Catholic Diocese of
Passaic.
The singers of the ecumenical choir will join St. John’s choir in providing beautiful music for the
service. Our pastor, Fr. Jorge Rodriguez, will lead prayer during the service, which will be followed
by a social time and buffet.
We ask those that attend to kindly bring a gifted can or packaged food item to be given to the Salvation Army for distribution to those in need in the Passaic area. Many thanks!

¿Quién era realmente la Mona Lisa? La Mona Lisa, el cuadro de Leonardo da Vinci (14521519) en donde aparece una mujer con una sonrisa enigmática. El concepto inicial de crear este cuadro nació en 1503 y durante los siguientes años Leonardo se decidió pintar la que, tal vez, sea una de
sus obras más conocida. En 1995 una especialista en arte gráfico computarizado, Lilliam Schwartz,
publico en una revista científica una teoría respecto a la Mona Lisa. De acuerdo con Schwartz, la fisonomía de la mujer que aparece en el cuadro pertenece al propio Leonardo. Para probar su tesis,
Schwartz midió las características físicas (separación de los ojos, altura de la nariz, ancho de la boca,
cuadratura de los pómulos y demás) de los autorretratos del artista y los comparo con los de la Mona Lisa.
