Se resuelve, con la aprobación de la Cámara de _____ que la 76ª Convención General de la
Iglesia Episcopal renueve su apoyo histórico de la aprobación de la Enmienda sobre Igualdad de
Derechos de la Constitución de Estados Unidos; y asimismo
Se resuelve, que esta renovación incluya interpelación de la aprobación de la Enmienda sobre la
Igualdad de Derechos (ERA) en el 111º Congreso por medio de la presentación de esta
resolución a la oficina de la Congresista Carolyn Maloney, principal patrocinadora de la ERA en
la Cámara de Representantes, y asimismo
Se resuelve, que esta Convención envíe una solicitud para que se publique su apoyo en la página
de "Partidarios" del sitio web de la Enmienda para la Igualdad de Derechos.
EXPLANATION:
In 1979, the 66th General Convention passed Resolution B0148 thus endorsing the Equal Rights Amendment and
urging the several states to ratify it in their legislatures. The ERA states that "Equality of rights under the law shall
not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." It was ratified by 35 of the
necessary 38 states between 1972-1982, and it is scheduled to be reintroduced in Congress on July 21st. Political
activity based on both this start-over process and a "three-state strategy" that might retain the existing 35
ratifications is increasing, and renewal of the General Convention's historic support will contribute to this effort.
