A finales del mes de marzo 2016, el Presidente de Estados Unidos de América, Barack
Obama realizará la primera visita a Cuba de un presidente norteamericano en ejercicio,
desde que en 1928 Calvin Coolidge visitara el país. El arte cubano siempre ha estado
presente en Estados Unidos a pesar de las limitaciones en las comunicaciones de los
últimos años, y los artistas cubanos gozan de un reconocimiento en ese país donde
muchos han expuesto en repetidas ocasiones. Para esta visita oficial, el arte ocupará un
lugar importante porque se realizarán eventos y exposiciones en ocasión de este
trascendental momento en las relaciones entre los dos países. En Portugal, el arte cubano
también cuenta con apasionados seguidores que poseen extensas colecciones con obras
importantes del arte cubano del último milenio y que mejor ocasión para mostrarlo que
haciéndolo coincidir con la visita de Obama a Cuba.
La exposición en la Galería Rui Alberto (Rua D. Manuel II, Oporto) nos acercará a artistas
que poseen una reconocida carrera internacional y que ya han expuesto en Estados Unidos
y en el resto del mundo. La obra de Rene Francisco, ganador del Premio Nacional de Artes
Plásticas de Cuba en 2010 estará representada por la serie de los Tubosutras, los otros
artistas de su generación que serán expuestos poseen obras importantes que los han
hecho reconocidos en todo el mundo. Se exhibirán dibujos de Carlos Estévez y Aisar Jalil,
pinturas de Esterio Segura, Ibrahim Miranda, Rigoberto y Roberto Diago, fotos de René
Peña. Los objetos de Ernesto Rancaño y Lidzie Alviza también estarán presentes. En esta
cuidada selección de obras se exhiben artistas que han expuesto en museos y galerías de
Alemania, Francia, China entre otros muchos países, y que en su mayoría han participado
en la bienal de Venecia, la bienal de Sao Paulo y por supuesto en la Bienal de la Habana.
Los artistas más jóvenes de Cuba, ya poseen trayectorias reconocidas y algunos como
Mabel Poblet con sus cuadros objeto, el año pasado expuso en NY, Argentina y Miami.

estamos seguros que motivará al público portugués a conocer e interesarse en el arte
cubano contemporáneo más reciente.

About the exhibition "Cuban Art. Always contemporary "
Cuba will welcome President Barack Obama to Havana later this month since Obama
is expected in Cuba on March 20-22,2016. Barack Obama will make the first visit to
Cuba by an American sitting president since Calvin Coolidge visited the country in
1928. Cuban art has always been present in the United States despite the limitations in
communications in half a century, and Cuban artists enjoy broad recognition in that
country where many have exposed repeatedly. For this official visit, art will play an
important role because events and exhibitions will be held on the occasion of this
momentous event in the bilateral relations. In Portugal, the Cuban art also has
passionate followers who have extensive collections with important works of Cuban
art of the last millennium, and what better occasion to show this works to coincide
with Obama's visit to Cuba.
The exhibition at the Gallery Rui Alberto brings us closer to artists who have a
recognized international career and have already exhibited in the United States and
the rest of the world. The works of Rene Francisco, winner of the National Prize of
Visual Arts in 2010 in Cuba will be represented by the series Tubosutras, the other
artists of his generation who are exposed have important works that have been
recognized worldwide. Carlos Estevez and Aisar Jalil drawings, paintings by Esterio
Segura, Ibrahim Miranda, Rigoberto and Roberto Diago and photos by René Peña will
be exhibited. Ernesto Rancaño and Lidzie Alviza objects will also be shown. This careful
selection of works by artists who have exhibited in museums and galleries in Germany,
France, China and many other countries and which have participated in the Venice
Biennial, the Biennial of Sao Paulo and of course in the Havana biennial will seduce
many visitors.
Younger artists from Cuba already have recognized paths and some as Mabel Poblet
with his paintings object were last year exhibited in NY, Argentina and Miami. The
discovery of Jorge Otero's photographs and the paintings by Lisianet Rodriguez and
Sheila Fraga will surely motivate the Portuguese public awareness and interest in the
latest contemporary Cuban art.
