Christ is the Incarnate Wisdom
Father Mark Wagner
In the Old Testament, there are
mysterious passages
that describe "Wisdom"
as a woman who was
present when God
created the world
(Proverbs 8), and who
now invites us to her
banquet (Wisdom 1). The Church has
always interpreted this as a
reference to Christ who assisted in
creation and now invites us to His
heavenly banquet. Christ is the
Incarnate Wisdom." The Church also
says that these passages can also be
interpreted as referring to Mary the
Mother of Jesus.
We can say that she was
"conceived" in the mind of God as the
Immaculate abode where Christ
would dwell. She is an inseparable
part of God's plan to give us Christ,
His Divine Wisdom. St. Augustine
(died 430) was the first to call Mary
the "Seat of Wisdom.” St. Jerome
(died 419) spoke of Christ as Wisdom
who "built a house" for Himself in the
Blessed Virgin Mary. The saints tell
us that we can go to Mary who is "the
Mediatrix of All Graces," who can
teach us how to be saints.
Today's first reading
says: "Wisdom has built her
house... yes, she has spread her
table. She calls out: 'Let whoever is
simple turn in here... Come, eat of my
food, and drink of the wine I have
mixed!'"
The Book of Proverbs speaks a lot
about faithful marriage and family
life. The truly wise person "builds a
house" where children can be
nourished by the love of a faithful
marriage.
Let us pray for those who do not
appreciate the wise teachings of the
Catholic Church about traditional
marriage, about family life, about
Christ and His Eucharist, and about
Mary, the Seat of Wisdom.

Super Heros
By Courtney Vallejo,
parishioner and member of MOMS
S
o it's summer and in our house
this means it's time for
Vacation Bible School or VBS
as my kids refer to it. Summer
also usually means blockbuster hits
like X-Men 15 and Superman Returns
Again or For the Last
Time...Maybe... As you can see, I know
little about these movies, as they’re
not my genre of choice; however, my
husband's a fan.
My kids attended a VBS
Superhero camp this summer and of
course loved it. They came home
talking about Superman and his
buddies. I was a little confused as to
why they were learning about
Superman, but apparently their craft
was Jesus-related, as they were
wearing backpacks that had the J
logos instead of the Superman S, and
that said “Jesus is my Hero.” So I
thought - what's the big hype about
Superman? I mean the guy cowers at
a rock, right? Wait, a rock?? Sounds
like a story I've heard before! David
was a young boy, who faced a giant
and all he had was a rock! He didn't
need anything else.
This got me thinking, we have a
variety of Catholic Super Heros,
female, male, young, old, a group that
would beat the X-Men any day. St.
Joan of Arc led the French army to
Victory. St. Padre Pio was known for
bilocating. I heard that when he
would get ready to leave the
monastery he would say "Hand me
my weapon;" and he would reach for
his Rosary. St. Catherine of Siena
encouraged the Pope to return the
Papacy to Rome. The body of St.
Francis Xavier has been incorruptible
for more than 150 years. These are the
stories our kids should know. St.
Michael, the Archangel, is shown
standing over the enemy with his
sword drawn, ready for battle. Please
don't get me wrong, I'm not promoting
fighting, I'm promoting the power of
our faith. I want my kids to have a
tangible faith and know which saints
to rely on in different situations. My
son was struggling with being scared,
so I pulled down my St. Michael
statue and we talked about how St.
Michael always wants to help protect
him and keep him safe. My son asked
to take the statue with him, which
gave me a good opportunity to
explain that we don't worship statues;
the statue wasn't going to protect him,
but rather give him an image of St.
Michael so he could call on him for
help.
So who are your Catholic Super
Heros? What resources are you using
to teach your children about our All
Star Saints? Let's start a list, so our
kids know who to call upon when
they need help. Let's show them the
power of prayer and intercession.
Let's teach them how to use our
Catholic Bat Signal!

I first met Leslie in 2005 when we
were both new catechists in St Joseph’s
RCIA program. Leslie, as a life-long
Catholic, consistently gave excellent
presentations on the abundant truth
found in our faith. For me, a recent
convert, she became a mentor and a role
model that I looked to as I dove into
teaching the dogmas and doctrines and
disciplines that we all need to observe.
We travelled with our other
catechists to Franciscan University in
Steubenville, Ohio each July to attend
classes, write theological papers, and
earn our certificate of completion of
their program. Recently we both agreed
that we miss that chance to “recharge
our batteries” with the great speakers
and holy hours we would attend.
Leslie has been an amazing behindthe-scenes spirit on the St. Joseph’s
campus. She is found here every
Saturday morning meeting as a liaison
with a 12-Step Group, who rely on her
strength and faith for their recovery.
She is currently a member of our
Parish Council, a lector at our Masses,
and will soon be involved with
Children’s Liturgy of the Word, where
our children are invited to deeper
understanding of Sacred Scripture.
In the past, she has been involved
with the Military Support Ministry, and
helped plan and prepare for the
Women’s Conference held in May of
2014. At the same time, she has been
deepening her faith as a professed
member of the Third Order Dominican
apostolate at St. Joseph’s.
We are blessed to have a parish
where the Spirit of God is flourishing,
and we are blessed as well to have a
talented and devoted parishioner in
Leslie who is willing to give her time
and efforts as a steward of our Catholic
faith.

DEL LAPTOP DEL PÁRROCO, Padre Mark
Cristo es la “sabiduría Encarnada”
Padre Mark Wagner
En el Antiguo Testamento, hay
pasajes misteriosos que describen
la “Sabiduría” como una mujer que
estuvo presente cuando Dios creó el
mundo (Proverbios 8) y quien ahora
nos invita a su banquete (Sabiduría 1).
La Iglesia siempre ha interpretado
esto como una referencia a Cristo
quien ayudó en la creación y ahora
nos invita a su banquete celestial.
Cristo es la “sabiduría Encarnada.”
La Iglesia también dice que aquellos
pasajes pueden ser interpretados
además como referencia a María, la
“La Sabiduría edificó
su casa... y también
preparó su mesa”
Madre de Jesús. Podemos decir que
estaba “concebida” en la mente de
Dios como la morada Inmaculada
donde Cristo residiría. Ella es una
parte inseparable del plan de Dio
para darnos a Cristo, Su Divina
Sabiduría.
San Agustín (d. 430) fue el
primero en llamar a María el “Trono
de la Sabiduría.” San Jerónimo habló
de Cristo como Sabiduría que “edificó
una casa por sí mismo” en la
Santísima Virgen María. Los santos
nos dicen que podemos acudir a
María quien es la “Mediadora de
Toda Gracia” que nos puede enseñar
cómo ser santos.
La primera lectura de hoy dice:
“La Sabiduría edificó su casa... y
también preparó su
mesa. Proclama: ‘El que sea incauto,
que venga aquí... Vengan, coman de
mi pan, y beban del vino que yo
mezclé.’”
El Libro de los Proverbios habla
mucho de la vida matrimonial y
familiar fiel. La persona en realidad
sabio “edifica una casa” donde los
niños pueden ser nutridos por el amor
de un matrimonio fiel.
Oremos por aquellos que no
aprecian esta enseñanza sabio de la
Iglesia Católica sobre el matrimonio
tradicional, sobre la vida familiar,
sobre Cristo y su Eucaristía, y sobre
María, el Trono de la Sabiduría.

Leer, Meditar, Orar y Vivir
Jesús nos da lo que ha
entregado el Padre
Padre Hamilton Suarez
come vivirá por mí”. Entendemos esas
palabras al ver la intensidad con que
los santos, grandes amantes de la
Eucaristía, Vivian su entrega a los
demás, o disfrutaban de las cosas más
sencillas o se gozaban en cualquier
circunstancia. El secreto estaba en la
misma vida de Cristo, que se les
comunicaba y que irradiaba todo su
ser y que confirmaba esas palabras de
Cristo: “El que come mi carne y bebe
pecadora y triste. Oh Madre del Verbo Encarnado, no
desprecies mis suplicas, antes bien en tu misericordia,
escucha y me responde.
Amen.

Por: Gary Nelson
Leslie Shaw Klinger
