Linda Carbajal’s Memorial Service. Saturday August 17th, Tribute to Linda Carbajal from Aldo Romero
Buenos Dias, mi nombre es Aldo Romero, y tuve el gusto de conocer y trabajar con Linda en los
últimos 6 años en mi papel de Subdirector de Cumbres.
Recordar a Linda sin mencionar la Universidad del Norte de Colorado ni el Programa de
Cumbres es olvidar los más de diez años de dedicación profesional y personal que brindó al
programa de Cumbres y a la UNC.
La filosofía educativa de Linda, su fortaleza y sus firmes valores inspiraron y permearon en todo
lo que hacía para Cumbres. Linda siempre demostró un incansable deseo y cariño por los
estudiantes sin perder de vista las metas y objetivos del programa.
Su liderazgo y buena disposición le permitieron desarrollar excelentes relaciones profesionales
en la universidad con administradores, profesores, empleados y estudiantes por igual.
Bajo el liderazgo y visión de Linda Carbajal, el programa Cumbres fue reconocido nacional e
internacionalmente. Profesores y administradores de Cumbres incluso Linda presentaron el
program Cumbres como modelo eficaz en la formación y preparación de maestros en los
Congresos Nacionales de Educacion Bilingüe en Denver y en el Congreso Internacional de
Bilinguismo en America Latina en la Universidad Benito Juárez de Oaxaca México. Asimismo
se presentaron ponencias sobre CUMBRES en los Congresos de La Asociación Hispánica de
Universidades (HACU) en San Antonio y Miami, y en el congreso de Prepárate Conference del
College Board en Orlando. EL programa Cumbres fue galardonado como finalista por la
organización Excelencia in Education como programa de EXCELENCIA EDUCATIVA y Linda
recibió el premio en nombre de Cumbres y UNC en Washington D.C. en el 2009.
Linda Carbajal’s Memorial Service. Saturday August 17th, Linda siempre demostró su inigualable amor por la vida. Su energía y ánimo siempre estuvieron
presentes en UNC y en CUMBRES. La actitud de Linda hacia el trabajo siempre fue positiva y
profesional, a pesar de la enfermedad que la acechó por casi 14 años, nunca se quejaba y siempre
estuvo al pendiente del programa. Siempre esperaba lo mejor de si misma, de sus compañeros de
trabajo y de los estudiantes.
Su fe en Dios fue la guía constante que le permitió seguir fuerte y firme en su vida personal y
profesional
El liderazgo, la visión y el apoyo de Linda influyeron de manera determinante en un sin número
de estudiantes en UNC que encontraron en Linda y en el programa de Cumbres oportunidades
educativas y profesionales. El éxito del programa CUMBRES sin duda alguna se debe en gran
medida al liderazgo y la visión de Linda Carbajal. Linda siempre estaba pendiente de los
estudiantes incluso en horas no laborables. Con frecuencia teníamos que recordarle que ya era
hora de volver a casa… Cumbres fue verdaderamente un programa que le apasionaba.
En lo personal, Linda me brindó su amistad y apoyo profesional. Linda no sólo fue una gran
compañera de trabajo sino también una gran consejera. De Linda aprendí un sin número de
cosas pero lo que más profundamente recuerdo FUE su gran cariño y dedicación a los
estudiantes. Linda dedicaba todo el tiempo que fuera necesario para escuchar y ayudar a los
estudiantes que a su vez, marcarían la diferencia en el sistema educativo y los salones de clase.
Vamos a extrañar mucho a Linda pero su presencia y su dedicación a la educación y formación
vivirán siempre con nosotros

Linda Carbajal’s Memorial Service. Saturday August 17th, Good Morning, my name is Aldo Romero and I had the pleasure of knowing and working
with Linda for the past six years in my role as assistant director for the Cumbres program.
Remembering Linda without mentioning the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) or the
Cumbres program would be to forget more than 10 years of professional and personal dedication
that she gave to the institution and the field of education.
Linda’s educational philosophy as an educator, her strength and her values inspired and
permeated everything she did for the Cumbres program. She demonstrated tireless affection and
attention for her students without losing her perspective on the objectives and goals of the
program. Her leadership and kind disposition allowed her to cultivate excellent professional
relationships with all whom she encountered in the university; with administrators, faculty,
employees and students.
Under Linda’s leadership and vision, Cumbres received national and international
recognition. Faculty and administrators from Cumbres, including Linda, showcased the program
as an effective teacher education model at the National Association of Bilingual Education
(NABE) in Denver, and the International Association of Bilingualism in Latin America
(BilingLatAm) at Benito Juarez University in Oaxaca, Mexico. Also, the Cumbres program was
presented at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) in San Antonio and
Miami, and at the College Board Prepárate Conference, in Orlando. Cumbres was also a finalist
at the Excelencia in Education Organization and Linda was so very proud to accept this award on
behalf of the program and UNC in Washington, D.C. in 2009.
Linda’s love of life, her energy and her spirit were reflected every day at UNC. She
always came to work with a positive and professional attitude, in spite of the illness that she

expected the best from herself, her co-workers and her students. She believed in God as her
constant guide who kept her strong and firm in her personal and professional life, and she spoke
of her faith often.
Linda’s leadership, vision, support and determination influenced so many students on
campus at UNC, allowing them to thrive and accomplish great educational and professional
successes. Without doubt, much of the success of Cumbres is due to Linda’s leadership,
dedication and passion for the students. She went above and beyond in her dedication to listen
and support those who came to her for help or advice, even at 5:00 on a Friday evening. It was
not uncommon that we, the Cumbres staff, would have to remind her that it was time to go
home…. Cumbres was truly her passion; she loved working there.
On a personal note, Linda gave me friendship and professional support. She was not only
a great colleague but also a mentor. I learned many things from Linda, but most profoundly, I
remember her great passion, love and dedication to our students and the difference she knew they
would make in the school system and classrooms. We are already missing Linda very much, but
her presence and dedication to education will always live on with us and with the Cumbres
program. May she rest in peace.
