College Tests
One huge factor in applying for colleg e is
taking a college entrance test. To apply
to a University students are required to
take either the SAT or the ACT (UC’s
require the writing portion of these
tests). Colleges use these scores and
combine the information with your GPA
and other information to determine if
you will be accepted to their school.
Students often do not realize the
importance of these tests and do not give
them the necessary effort.
This Month to do
Freshmen:
Start high school off right! Turn assignments in ON TIME. Remember if you earn C’s or BETTER you
will stay on track for college! The higher your grades, the better schools you will be accepted to!
Start off strong, because against popular belief…EVERY CLASS COUNTS! Join a club or sport and
become involved EARLY! October 15 th is our big University field trip. Make sure permission slips are
turned in ASAP.
PSAT
The PSAT or Preliminary SAT is a
standardized test that provides first hand
practice for the SAT. This year the PSAT
will be held at CVHS on Wednesday,
th
October 15 and all sophomores and
juniors will take it. There are many
reasons to take the PSAT but the most
important reason is that students who
take the PSAT tend to do BETTER on the
SAT thus making them more likely to get
into the college of their choice!
Juniors:
Start to narrow in on your plans for after high school. Research colleges you’re interested in on
cappex.com.
This is your last chance to take the PSAT before you take the REAL SAT or ACT! Taking the PSAT as
a junior also qualifies you for the national merit scholarship! The PSAT will be held during school on
October 15 th this year. Do your best to prepare you for the real thing!
Sophomores:
Consider joining a club or sport if you haven’t done so or ADD one this year! Colleges like students
who take challenging classes, get good grades AND are involved in extra -curricular activities.
The PSAT is an important piece to being prepared for college. Data shows that students who took
the PSAT did significantly better on the SAT than those who did not! The PSAT will be held during
school on October 15 th this year. Do your best to prepare you for the real thing!
Senior’s:
If you have not taken or signed up for the SAT or ACT do so NOW!! Fee waivers are available in the
counseling office. Begin to narrow down what schools and how many you will be applying to. Make
sure you know what is required for the different types of Universities. Determine if you qualify or
will apply to EOP for CSU’s. (more detailed information in classroom presentations!)

Exámenes Colegiales
Un factor muy importante
cuando se aplica para el
colegio es tomar una prueba
de ingreso. Para aplicar a la
Universidad los estudiantes
están obligados a tomar ya
sea el SAT o el ACT (UC’s
requieren la parte escrita de
estas pruebas). Los colegios
utilizan estos resultados y
combinan la información con
tu promedio de calificaciones
y otra información para
determinar si vas a ser
aceptado a su escuela. Los
estudiantes a menudo no se
dan cuenta de la importancia
de estas pruebas y no se
esfuerzan lo necesario.
PSAT
El PSAT o SAT Preliminar es
una prueba estandarizada que
proporciona
práctica
de
primera mano para el SAT.
Este año, el PSAT se celebrará
en CVHS el miércoles 15 de
octubre. Hay muchas razones
para tomar el PSAT, pero la
razón más importante es que
los estudiantes que toman el
PSAT tienden a hacer mejor
en el SAT, ¡lo que los hace
más propensos a entrar en el
colegio de su elección!
Para este Mes
Alumnos de 1er año:
¡Empieza la preparatoria bien! Entrega tu tarea a TIEMPO. ¡Recuerda que si obtienes una C o MEJOR
te mantendrás en camino para el colegio! ¡Lo más alto que sean tus grados, mejores serán las escuelas
a las que seas aceptado! Empieza con fuerza, porque contrario a la creencia popular….¡TODAS LAS
CLASES CUENTAN! ¡Únete a un club o deporte e involúcrate TEMPRANO!
Alumnos de 2do año:
¡Considera unirte a un club o deporte si aún no lo has hecho o AGREGA uno este año! A los colegios les
gustan los estudiantes que toman clases retadoras, obtienen buenos grados Y están envueltos en
actividades extra-curriculares.
El PSAT es una pieza importante para estar preparado para el colegio. ¡Los datos muestran que los
estudiantes que tomaron el PSAT hicieron significativamente mejor en el SAT que los que no lo hicieron.
El PSAT se llevará a cabo durante la escuela el 15 de octubre de este año. ¡Haz lo mejor que puedas
para estar bien preparado!
Alumnos de 3er año:
Empieza a enfocarte en tus planes para después de la preparatoria. Investiga los colegios que te interesan
en cappex.com. ¡Esta es tu última oportunidad para tomar el PSAT antes de tomar el SAT o ACT
VERDADERO! ¡Al tomar el PSAT durante el 3er año también te califica para la beca nacional de mérito! El
PSAT se llevará a cabo durante la escuela el 15 de octubre de este año. ¡Haz lo mejor que puedas para estar
bien preparado!
Alumnos de 4to año:
¡Si tú no has tomado o no te has inscrito en el SAT o ACT hazlo AHORA! Exenciones de tarifas están
disponibles en la oficina de consejería. Comienza a reducir tanto el número como las escuelas a las que vas a
aplicar. Asegúrate de saber lo que se requiere para las diferentes tipos de Universidades. Determina si
calificas o aplicarás a EOP para las CSU’s. (¡Habrá información más detallada en las presentaciones en clase!)
CSU’s-Minimo 2.0 GPA, SAT o ACT, se cumplió con los requisitos A-G


Aplicación ADICIONAL separada para los estudiantes de EOP (deben ser primera generación de
