GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY
Good Shepherd Sunday
Brothers and Sisters, today is Good Shepherd Sunday. Since
our community does not have a “patron saint” per se, this is the
closest we come to having a “feast day.” So,
HAPPY FEAST DAY!
Today is also World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Often when
someone says the word vocation, people automatically think
about priests and those in consecrated life. However, priests
and religious are not the only ones with a vocation. Are you
married? If you are, then you are living the vocation of
matrimony—of family. Are you single? If you are then you are
living the vocation of the single life. All of us, no matter what
our vocation, are called to live holy lives. All of us are equally
called to live chaste lives according to the 10 commandments
of God. Let us all pray for one another that we all discern well
our vocation—the way of life that God wishes for us, and that
we have the ears to hear and courage to answer, to live the life
that God calls us. We are distributing prayer cards to everyone
this weekend hoping that we will all lift our prayers in support
of all vocations. Thank you to the parish vocation’s committee
for their hard work preparing for this weekend.
Starting on Friday, May 1 and continuing for every First
Friday, we will begin a 24 hour period of exposition and
adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We will begin with Mass
on the First Friday of every month at 9 a.m. We will end the
next morning with Mass on the Saturday following the First
Friday with Benediction at the end of the Mass. We invite
everyone to sign up for an hour of prayer with the Blessed
Sacrament. This will be your hour once per month. Sign up
sheets are available in the narthex. Come spend an hour with
the Lord.
This Friday the Knights of Columbus will be hosting their
annual golf tournament. This is a fun day for all and the
proceeds go toward assisting seminarians with their studies.
Since all who are in formation for the priesthood and religious
life spend nearly all of their time in daily study, prayer and
apostolic outreach, opportunities to earn an income are scarce.
Trying to find money for books and personal supplies can
become a strain and diversion as one seeks to follow the Lord’s
call. In fact, while I was in the seminary, one of the K of C
councils in our archdiocese was very generous in supplying
monthly spending money for personal needs. Last year our K of
C council presented a check to St. Mary Seminary for
$10,000.00. AMAZING. Way to go gentlemen.
On Saturday, May 2 we will celebrate First
Communions. Approximately 180 young people and
their parents and guardians have been preparing for this
day for many months now and we are all very proud of
them. Please keep these young people and their families
in your prayers as they begin this new chapter in their
lives.
Christ the Good Shepherd come to our aid.

nuestra vocación y el estilo de vida que Dios desea para nosotros;

Today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter: Good Shepherd Sunday is
a special celebration of World Day of Prayer for Vocations. The
world-wide Church honors all Christian vocations. Christ Jesus
gives His life for us that we might know fullness of life. We pray
for openness to God's call and to accept the gift of our Christian
vocation. Christ Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is with us to guide
and protect us on our life journey.
Please join us in praying our new parish vocation prayer.
