Second Sunday of Easter

Today, the Sunday after Easter, is Divine Mercy Sunday and as the
name implies, it is a day to celebrate the great mercy of our God. This
day has a special meaning for all of us since this has also been declared as a jubilee year of mercy by Pope Francis. If you know anything
about Pope Francis, you know that the mercy of God is the central
teaching of his ministry to the Church. He has repeatedly instructed those of us who minister in the Church to be agents of God’s mercy and forgiveness, to be generous in extending
God’s mercy to all. He reminds us that while rules and regulations are important, we must first
consider the command of Jesus Christ that we love one another and give to others, the same
forgiveness that God has given to us. Who of us has not been in need of God’s forgiveness?
Who of us has not had an experience of receiving God’s amazing mercy and forgiveness? We
must offer that same mercy and forgiveness to others.
I have begun reading Pope Francis’ new book “The Name of God is Mercy” and I was struck by
one particular story in which a man was about to die and the priest asked him if he was sorry
for his sins to which he replied that he truly did not feel sorry. To which the priest asked him
if he was sorry about not being sorry and when the man said yes, he was immediately given
absolution. What the Divine Mercy means is that God is on our side, God wants to forgive us
and will find every possible way to extend mercy to us. In the book of the Prophet Ezekiel God
proclaims that he takes not delight in the death of the sinner but would rather that they turn to
him and live (Ezekiel 33:11). Today we celebrate the God who cannot wait to extend us mercy
and forgiveness. May we always turn to him and live.

Hoy, el domingo después de Pascua, es Domingo de la Misericordia y como su nombre indica, es un día para celebrar la gran misericordia de nuestro Dios. Este día tiene un significado especial
para todos nosotros ya que esto también ha sido declarado como
año jubilar de la misericordia por el Papa Francisco. Si ustedes
saben algo sobre el Papa Francisco, usteded saben que la misericordia de Dios es la enseñanza central de su ministerio a la Iglesia.
Él ha dado instrucciones en repetidas ocasiones los que ministran
en la Iglesia ser agentes de la misericordia y del perdón de Dios,
ser generosos en extender la misericordia de Dios a todos. Él
nos recuerda que mientras las normas y los reglamentos son importantes, debemos tener en cuenta en primer lugar el mandato
de Jesucristo que nos amemos unos a otros y dar a los demás el
mismo perdón que Dios nos ha dado. ¿Quién de nosotros no ha
necesitado el perdón de Dios? ¿Quién de nosotros no ha tenido
una experiencia increíble de recibir la misericordia y el perdón de
Dios? Hay que ofrecer la misma misericordia y perdón a otros.
He empezado a leer el nuevo libro del Papa Francisco ,” El Nombre de Dios es Misericordia” y me llamó la atención una historia
particular en la que un hombre estaba muriendo y el sacerdote le
preguntó si él se arrepentió de sus pecados a lo que respondió
que no. Entonces, el sacerdote le preguntó si lamentaba por no
estar arrepentido y cuando el hombre dijo que sí, se le dio la absolución inmediatamente. Lo que la Divina Misericordia significa
es que Dios está de nuestra parte, Dios quiere perdonarnos y
encontrará todas las formas posibles para extender la misericordia de nosotros. En el libro del profeta Ezequiel Dios proclama
que él no quiere la muerte del pecador, sino que cambie su mala
conducta y viva (Ezequiel 33:11). Hoy celebramos el Dios que no
puede esperar para extendernos la misericordia y el perdón. Que
podamos siempre recurrir a él y vivir.

Divine Mercy Sunday
Rev. Robert Lennon, C.Ss.R. will lead a Holy Hour and healing service today
beginning at 2:00pm. Benediction, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered.

The Archdiocese of Boston requires that all clergy, parish staff (full and part
time), together will all volunteers (17 years of age and older) who minister to
or have the potential for unmonitored access to children, youth, elderly or the
disabled, undergo a CORI check. This process requires an individual to fill out
a CORI request form annually in accordance with this policy. Please bring your
Driver’s License or Massachusetts ID to the Rectory Office for verification.

Summer Program at Northeast Catholic College
Room is still available for the Summer Program at Northeast Catholic College
in Warner, NH! The Collegiate Summer Program offers participants the opportunity to study theology, philosophy, literature and political science. During
the summer program, students also attend daily Mass and enjoy sports, socials
and day trips including hiking and canoeing. The program is for students who
will be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school in the fall
of 2016. It is also open to students who have just graduated high school. The
Collegiate Summer Program is a two-week session that runs from Sunday, July

Concert in Honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
On Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 7:00 PM in our Basilica, there will be a concert
to honor Our Mother of Perpetual Help, whose image has been made known
for 150 years by the Redemptorists throughout the world. The Concert will feature a wonderful Irish Chorale from Toronto, Canada and three Irish priests: Fr.
Philip Dabney, C.Ss.R. (CatholicTV Novena Priest), Fr. Bob Reed (Director of the
CatholicTV Network), and Fr. Chris Hickey (CatholicTV Host of Going My Way).
