Colfax Corridor Connections is a study of transit and mobility within the East Colfax corridor
that is being conducted by the City and County of Denver and the Regional Transportation District (RTD) in
partnership with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and in coordination with the City of Aurora. The goal of
the project is to improve transit, overall mobility and livability within the corridor now and over the next 25 years.
All major routes and alignments within the corridor, not just Colfax
Avenue, will be included in the analysis. Project phasing options,
environmental impacts/benefits and estimated costs of alternatives will
be evaluated. The project corridor is roughly bounded by I-25 and I-225
on the west and east, respectively, and 20th Avenue and 12th Avenue on
the north and south.
Among the transit and multimodal options that will be analyzed are:
•
Operational (such as revising the operations of existing transit routes,
new or modified transit routes, transit-only lanes and more)
•
New transit technologies (such as larger buses, bus rapid transit, modern streetcar, light rail or others)
•
Other improvements (such as bicycle/pedestrian connections and more)
The findings of a recent 2010 Streetcar Feasibility Study the 2008 Denver Strategic Transportation Plan both
identified a need for significant additional mobility capacity in the East Colfax corridor by 2030. The feasibility
study also noted the four existing east-west bus routes in the study area regularly operate at or beyond capacity,
particularly during peak periods. As a result, the City and its planning partners in the area have agreed that East
Colfax transit needs should be analyzed.
It is anticipated that Colfax Corridor Connections will take less than two years to complete. The project will
begin with an Alternatives Analysis (AA), followed by an environmental study that complies with the National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
The AA and related environmental study will be completed in four phases. Public input is essential to the success
of this project and there will be opportunities for public review and input in each of the following four phases:

Phase 1: Public Scoping (Fall 2012) – Identify options for meeting mobility and transit needs in the corridor.
•
Phase 2: Alternatives Analysis (Fall 2012/Winter 2013) – Conduct increasingly detailed evaluation of
alternatives to eliminate flawed alternatives and identify those that best meet the needs of the corridor with
the least environmental impact.
•
Phase 3: Conceptual Engineering/Environmental Analysis (Spring/Summer 2013) – Provide greater analysis
on selected alternatives.
•
Phase 4: Environmental Compliance (Summer/Fall 2013) – Present a final decision document reflecting
results of the analysis.

Colfax Corridor Connections es un estudio de tránsito y transporte en el corredor de Colfax Este
llevado a cabo por la Ciudad y el Condado de Denver y el Distrito de Transporte Regional (RTD) en asociación con
la Administración Federal de Transporte (FTA) y en coordinación con la Ciudad de Aurora. El objetivo del proyecto
es mejorar el tránsito y en general el transporte y la habitabilidad dentro del corredor a corto plazo y en los
próximos 25 años.
Todas las rutas principales y vías de transporte dentro del corredor, no solo en la
avenida Colfax, estarán incluidas en el análisis. Se evaluarán las opciones para etapas
del proyecto, impacto y beneficio ambiental y el costo estimado de las alternativas.
El proyecto del corredor está delimitado aproximadamente por la I-25 en el oeste y
la I-225 en el este, y por la avenida 20 en el norte y la avenida 12 en el sur.
Entre las opciones de tránsito y transporte multimodal que serán analizadas, están:
• Operacional (como la revisión de operaciones de rutas de tránsito existentes,
rutas nuevas o modificadas, carriles específicos para tránsito y más).
• Nuevas tecnologías de tránsito (como buses más grandes, sistema de autobús de
tránsito rápido, tranvía, tren ligero u otros).
• Otras mejoras (como conexiones para ciclistas y peatones, y más).
Los resultados de estudios de los últimos cuatro años sobre transporte identificaron la necesidad de una
capacidad de transporte adicional en el corredor Colfax Este para el 2030. Los estudios también destacaron que
las cuatro rutas de autobús existentes con dirección este y oeste, operan en el área en su capacidad máxima o
más allá de esta, especialmente durante las horas de más tráfico. Como resultado, la ciudad y organizaciones del
área asociadas en el planeamiento han acordado que deben analizarse las necesidades de tránsito en Colfax Este.
Se anticipa que el proyecto Colfax Corridor Connections va a tomar menos de dos años para completarse. El
proyecto comenzará con un Análisis de alternativas (AA), seguido por un estudio ambiental que cumple con los
requisitos de la Ley Nacional de Política Ambiental (NEPA).
El estudio de análisis de alternativas se completará en cuatro fases. Es esencial el aporte del público para el éxito
de este proyecto. Habrá oportunidades para la revisión del público y para recibir sus comentarios y preguntas en
cada una de las fases:

Fase 1: Evaluación pública de opciones (Otoño 2012) – Identificará opciones para cumplir con las necesidades
de transporte y tránsito en el corredor.
Fase 2: Análisis de alternativas (Otoño 2012/Invierno 2013) – Evaluará con más detalle las alternativas para
eliminar las que no son factibles e identificar las que satisfacen las necesidades del corredor y que causarán el
mínimo impacto ambiental.
Fase 3: Análisis de ingeniería conceptual/ambiental (Primavera/Verano 2013) – Ofrecerá un análisis más
profundo de las alternativas seleccionadas.
Fase 4: Cumplimiento de los requerimientos ambientales (Verano/Otoño 2013) – Presentará un documento
final para tomar decisiones, que contiene los resultados de los análisis.
