Metrobus The route starts at Barajas Airport in Madrid, goes through Torrejón and ends next to the Torrejón suburban train station. This will promote the Public Transport link between the towns in the Henares Corridor and the Barajas Airport Terminals. Works, which will cover a length of 6 kilometres, will begin in the first quarter of 2009 and will be operational in 2011. The route includes a possible stop in Pegaso City. Bus The Spanish Ministry of Public Works is planning a route for the exclusive use of public transport between kilometres 5.3 and 20.3 of the A-2 motorway. More specifically, it will cover the stretch between Calle de Arturo Soria and Torrejón de Ardoz. Public transport will benefit from a dedicated lane stretching 15 kilometres along the A-2 as it approaches Madrid, promoting the use of public transport and reducing the travel time of the intercity bus that runs to and from Pegaso City (2011). The existing suburban train routes which stop at San Fernando station (C-1, C-2, C-7 and CIVIS lines) cover both the areas to the south (Atocha) and north (Chamartín), resulting in very competitive connection times with Madrid’s Business District (Nuevos Ministerios/Plaza Castilla stations). This means that the San Fernando station and Chamartín station will be linked in 17 minutes using the alternative track. It will have intermediate stations at O’Donnell, Manuel Azaña (Exhibition Centres) and Fuente de la Mora (Manoteras). The planned route will use the existing freight track, offering a much shorter travel time to the business area. A new commuter train line is also being planned to service the new Airport Terminal (T4): Chamartín-Airport T4. To this end, a connection has been planned between Chamartín and Terminal 4 of the Airport, with two intermediate stations (Fuente de La Mora and Valdebebas). This will reduce travel times by train to the new terminal to 10 minutes from Chamartín and around 22 minutes from San Fernando (in addition to the Pegaso City private shuttle that goes directly to the airport). In February 2007, the Spanish Ministry of Public Works awarded the contract for the 8.8-km construction works on the Chamartín-Airport T4 line, to be built in two sections: Chamartín-Fuente de La Mora (Manoteras): quadrupling the existing dual-track alternative line of Hortaleza (4.1 km) and creating a new station at Fuente de La Mora. Fuente de La Mora (Manoteras)-Airport T4: a new twin track, running entirely underground (4.7 km), with a new station at Valdebebas. Work on the new Chamartín-Airport T4 line started in April 2007 and is scheduled for completion in the year 2010.
