HOPE AND FORGIVENESS

There were some interesting conceptions
of sin prevalent in the time of the Hebrew
scriptures. There was the belief that God punished
sin immediately. Those who suffered disease or
misfortune were, therefore, sinners getting their
due from the Almighty.

Today’s first reading hints at another kind
of God. When David admits his sin, Nathan
declares, “The LORD on his part has forgiven your
sin” (2 Samuel 12:13b). Here was not a vengeful God but a merciful God. What
good news that must have been to David and those who, like him, could be
honest enough to admit their sinfulness!
Jesus is the good news of God’s mercy and forgiveness incarnate.
Without Jesus, perhaps the good news would have been too good to believe, too
difficult to imagine. But there he is in today’s Gospel, the God-man, forgiving a
sinner and declaring that she is forgiven because of her great love.
There is hope, then, for the rest of us sinners, if only we love enough!

DIOCESAN MASS IN HONOR OF THE
INCARCERATED AND THEIR FAMILIES
The office of Restorative Justice/Detention Ministry would like to
invite you to our Diocesan Mass in honor of the incarcerated and their
families on June 24, 2016 from 6pm to 7pm., principal celebrant is

PERDÓN
Había algunas concepciones interesantes sobre el
pecado que prevalecían en la
época de las Escrituras
hebreas. Estaba la creencia de
que Dios castigaba inmediatamente el pecado. Los que
sufrían alguna enfermedad o desgracia eran, por lo
tanto, pecadores que recibían su merecido del
Todopoderoso.
La primera lectura de hoy nos muestra a otro
tipo de Dios. Cuando David admite su pecado,
Natán declara: “El Señor te perdona tu
pecado” (2 Samuel 12:13b). Aquí no hay un Dios
vengativo sino un Dios misericordioso. ¡Qué buena
nueva debe haber sido eso para David y para los
que, como él, eran lo suficientemente honestos
como para admitir su pecado!
Jesús es la buena nueva de la misericordia y el
perdón de Dios hecho carne. Sin Jesús, quizás la
buena nueva hubiera sido demasiado buena como
para creerla, demasiado difícil de imaginar. Pero
allí está en el Evangelio de hoy, el Dios-hombre,
perdonando a una pecadora y declarando que está
perdonada debido a su gran amor.
¡Hay esperanza, entonces, para el resto de

Registrations for First Communion
The new term for the Children’s Faith Formation is about to
begin. We invite all parents to register their children so they
can come to learn and live their Faith and receive First
Communion and be called to be disciples of Jesus. Registrations have started and will end on Thursday, June 30th.

Recent picture
Registration fee – first year $65 one child and
$50 for each additional child.
Second Year - $80 per child.
Confirmation Registrations
Registration for Confirmation for teens has begun. You
need to bring your baptismal and first communion
certificates. Space is limited. Registration fee is $100.
Office Hours: Monday and Friday from 3pm to 6pm
and Wednesday from 10am to 2pm.

Adult Sacrament Preparation Classes
If you are 18yrs. (+) and want to receive the sacraments of
First Communion and/or Confirmation – classes are
scheduled to begin, July 20, all classes start at 7:00pm
and they are in Room F. Registration fee is $60.00
Classes will be from July 20 thru November 23rd. Visit
the rectory office for an information sheet, titled: Adult
Sacrament Preparation. It has dates and requirements for
the class. If you are not currently baptized or were
baptized in another faith tradition (Episcopal, Anglican,
Protestant, Catholic, and others, etc.) you can participate in
this class.
