China has become the center of the world. With one of the largest GDP in the world, China
has displaced the United States as the first world power. It has become the largest exporter in
manufactures the world and the second biggest importer. Furthermore, China is also one of
the first countries that receives considerably more foreign direct investment. This success is
partially due to the opening of its economy, changing from a closed to an open economy.
Trade policy has played an important role in reducing trade barriers and facilitating trade with

other countries, through trade agreements. Some trade agreements are aimed to reduce tariffs
in order to increase trade and investment incentive.
This article explains the commercial policy applied by China. Then it focuses on the study and
comparison of the Free Trade Agreement between Peru and China and the Free Trade
Agreement between Chile and China. It starts by analyzing kind of goods, services and
investments, exchanged between countries. Then it continues with the types of trade and the
effect of these agreements, on social welfare, which is depending on their diversion and trade
creation effect.
