THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER By Mark Twain PERSONAJES TOM SAWYER: Es el protagonista. Vive con su tía porque sus padres murieron. Es un chico bueno, muy alegre y un poco rebelde, que no hace caso de lo que su tía le dice. Le encantan las aventuras. Su mejor amigo es Huckleberry Finn y está enamorado de Becky. Va vestido con un pantalón, una camiseta amarilla y un sombrero muy característico. HUCKLEBERRY FINN: Es un personaje muy libre. No va al colegio y puede hacer siempre lo que quiera porque no tiene padres que le controlen: su madre murió y su padre está siempre desaparecido (en la novela es un borracho). Vive en la calle y no tiene nada. También es muy valiente y le encantan las aventuras. Va vestido con un pantalón, una camiseta roja y un sombrero como el de Tom y lleva también un zurrón de cuero en bandolera. TÍA POLLY: Es una señora mayor muy formal, tía de Tom. Le regaña y le amenaza mucho, pero nunca le llega a pegar. Quiere mucho a Tom y le gustaría que le hiciera más caso. Va vestida con una bata, un mandil y lleva gafas grandes. Lleva un moño. BECKY: Es una niña muy guapa, un poco cursi y muy concienciada con sus derechos. Es la hija de un juez y Tom está enamorado de ella. Va vestida con un vestido de flores y lleva dos coletas. INDIO JOE: Es un ladrón (en la novela es un asesino) que aparece en muchos de los líos en los que se meten Tom y a Huckleberry. Va vestido como un indio, con una corona de plumas. Estos 5 personajes se pueden representar con 2 actores, un hombre y una mujer. El hombre debe interpretar a TOM SAWYER y el INDIO JOE. La mujer debe interpretar a HUCKLEBERRY FINN, TÍA POLLY y BECKY. NECESIDADES TÉCNICAS Para representar los fondos, se necesitarían tres telones pintados: uno que represente la casa de la tía Polly, otro que sea un fondo que represente un bosque y otro que sea un fondo oscuro, que pueda simbolizar un cementerio y el interior de una mina. No he indicado nada sobre iluminación porque supongo que se representará normalmente en espacios no demasiado preparados y es mejor ir con el mínimo de necesidades. En cuanto a elementos de la escena, se precisarían: una valla de jardín y una escalera de tres peldaños. Esta escalera podría estar WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
pintada de varios colores para que sirviera en diferentes momentos: los peldaños de blanco (o del mismo color que la casa de la tía Polly), los laterales de negro y la parte atrás de color marrón para que al girarse, pueda simbolizar el tronco de un árbol. Otros elementos de atrezzo: IMPRESCINDIBLES: flores de papel de colores, un cubo y cuatro brochas para pintar, un zurrón para Huckleberry, un gato de peluche, una galleta o chocolatina, dos sacos o bolsas para el tesoro, dos palos de madera para hacer una lucha de espadas, un bloc de dibujo grande y un rotulador gordo, una gran “X” de color rojo hecha en cartón o gomaespuma y una piedra o similar. PRESCINDIBLES: matorrales o elementos vegetales, tres pelotas de colores para hacer malabares, un soldado con paracaídas, un candil para alumbrarse en el cementerio, monedas de chocolate para regalar a los niños participantes y un pequeño efecto pirotécnico (bomba de humo, explosión de confeti…). MÚSICA Con respecto a la música, he indicado en un momento la canción “Single ladies” de Beyoncé para hacer una coreografía. He puesto esa porque tiene un baile asociado, pero podría ponerse cualquier otra y se podría hacer cualquier otro baile. Hay un momento en el que se indica una canción sobre piratas. Esta canción es prescindible, se puede hacer o no, dependiendo de cómo se vaya de tiempo. Para ese momento, no tengo ninguna canción, pero quizás podría hacerse esta que está en dos versiones (inglés / español) o esta otra. Para la danza india de la victoria del final, se pueden utilizar los movimientos de la “Haka”, la danza maorí que hacen los jugadores de rugby de Nueva Zelanda antes de los partidos y también pueden valer estos ejemplos: Baile de la lluvia y danza de la lluvia. Además, quizás pueda servir en algún momento la música de inicio de la serie de dibujos TOM SAWYER (1980). WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Scene 1 En el escenario hay un telón pintado con la forma de una casa típica del sur de los EEUU, una construcción de madera con un porche a la entrada. Junto al telón hay tres escalones que sirven como entrada al porche de la casa. Estos escalones servirán también, dándoles la vuelta, como tronco de árbol cortado en el que los actores se sienten en otra escena. Esparcidos por el escenario hay pequeños matorrales. La TÍA POLLY sale de la casa. Va vestida con una bata, un mandil y lleva también unas gafas grandes. TOM está escondido detrás de un matorral, va vestido con un pantalón oscuro, una camiseta amarilla y un sombrero de paja. Aunt Polly Tom!! Where are you, Tom?? Tom!! Come home at once!! The dinner is ready! Tom! Tom!! La TÍA POLLY se mueve de un lado al otro del escenario, buscándole. TOM se va moviendo, escondiéndose para que ella no le vea. De vez en cuando, TOM maúlla como un gato para despistarla e intenta no reírse. Aunt Polly (angry) Tom! Come here! The moment I catch you… You will find out!! Tom! Don´t trick me! We don´t have any cat. I know it´s you! TOM sale corriendo de detrás de un matorral e intenta esquivar a la TÍA POLLY, pero ella le coge. Aunt Polly Ahá! At last I catch you! Rogue! Tom Sawyer Leave me alone Aunt Polly! I´ve done nothing! Aunt Polly Haven´t you? Let me see… Show me your hands… TOM forcejea y se resiste, pero al final le enseña las manos.TOM tiene las palmas de las manos y los dedos de color naranja. Aunt Polly (angry) WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
I knew it! You have been eating cake! How many times have I told you that nothing must be eaten before having dinner? Now, you are really going to know what is it like! La TÍA POLLY se sienta en las escaleras, coge a TOM SAWYER de un brazo, y él se queja lastimeramente. Le pone boca abajo sobre sus rodillas con la intención de darle varios cachetes en el culo. Tom Sawyer No! No! Please, don´t beat me Aunt Polly… La TÍA POLLY levanta su brazo derecho y empieza a girarlo en círculos por encima de su cabeza haciendo ruidos. Tom Sawyer I´m afraid, please… Aunt Polly Now, you are going to see! You have been a very bad boy and you deserve some punishment. TOM se gira y se consigue zafar. Se pone de pie rápidamente. Tom Sawyer Wait a minute, Aunt Polly! Has anybody told you that you look beautiful today? You´re the most beautiful and nice aunt in the whole world! Aunt Polly (vain) Do you really think so? Aren´t you lying to me? The truth is that I have combed my hair and I have put some fancy clothes on this morning… Tom Sawyer You´re the beautiful one, Aunt Polly. Very beautiful, truly. Aunt Polly (vain) Oh, thank you, Tom! Tom Sawyer (laughing) WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
As beautiful as kissing a frog and a snail! Aunt Polly Oh! You wicked boy! The moment I catch you… You will find out! La TÍA POLLY intenta cogerle de nuevo, pero TOM se escapa corriendo mientras le hace burlas. TOM sale por la derecha. La TÍA POLLY se queda en el centro del escenario y se dirige al público. Aunt Polly This boy is the devil! I can´t stand him! He´s so rebel! I´m only his aunt. I´m his mother´s sister. The poor boy has no father nor mother, so he has to live with me. But he doesn´t obey me! He´s a very naugthy boy! He only likes running, jumping, swimming… But he doesn´t want to go to the school! And he doesn´t want to obey me either! I don´t know what I´m going to do about him! La TÍA POLLY sale del escenario por la izquierda. Scene 2 El telón representa ahora un bosque o un campo abierto. A la caja de los escalones se le ha dado la vuelta y tiene la forma de un tronco de un árbol cortado. TOM aparece por la izquierda y camina sin rumbo fijo por el escenario. Por la derecha aparece BECKY, una niña de la misma edad que TOM que lleva un vestido de flores y dos coletas. BECKY pasea y recoge flores. TOM, en cuanto la ve, se queda perdidamente enamorado de ella. BECKY sin embargo, hace como si no le hubiera visto. Entonces TOM se pone muy cerca de ella y hace todo lo posible para que ella le haga caso: Hace el pino, flexiones, corre alrededor de ella, coge tres pelotas y se pone a hacer malabares… pero ella sigue sin hacerle caso. De repente a TOM se le ocurre una idea: Pide al público que empiecen a dar palmas y se pone a bailar break-­‐dance delante de ella, pero tampoco funciona.... Entonces TOM pide que, del público, salgan tres voluntarios para hacer una coreografía de baile muy sencilla. Tom Sawyer (to the audience) I need three volunteers to help me. I like this girl very much. And I think if I could dance with three of you, she´s going to get interested on me. Who is going to help me? Please… Thank you very much! Cuando suben los tres voluntarios al escenario. Se colocan los cuatro de frente mirando al público. BECKY se pone delante, en un lateral para observar el baile. WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
TOM les explica a los voluntarios cuatro pasos de la coreografía del vídeo de la canción “Single ladies” de Beyoncé. Tom Sawyer (to the volunteers) First I´m going to dance and then you´re going to repeat the steps after me, ok? Put your right hands up. Then we walk without getting out of our spots. Moving your legs like this. Come on, let´s do it! TOM comprueba que los voluntarios están haciendo correctamente el paso. BECKY hace gestos de desaprobación cuando ve bailando a TOM. Tom Sawyer (to the volunteers) Very well! Then we put both our arms up at the same time. Our right leg too as we were kicking a football. Come on! Ok! Now we move to one side, a little bit leaning, moving one arm and then the other as if we were going to beat the floor. We go to one side and then to the other. Very well! Finally we run in circles while moving your arms in the air. Ok? Now all together. We walk on the spot an the we put our hands and our right leg up. After that we walk to one side as if we were beating the floor with our arms and then we walk to the other side. Finally we run in circles moving ouar arms. Let´s do it all together! Let the music play! Suena la canción “Single ladies” de Beyoncé y los cuatro bailan delante de BECKY. BECKY sonríe y hace gestos de aprobación. Tom Sawyer (to the audience) Well well, it seems like Becky likes it! Thank you all. Let´s give a big applause to these great dancers! Los tres voluntarios vuelven a sus asientos. TOM se acerca a BECKY. Becky Who are you? What´s your name? Tom Sawyer WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
I´m Tom Sawyer. The bravest man and the best dancer to this side of Mississipi River. And you? What´s your name? I´ve never seen you before. Becky My name is Becky. I live near here. Tom Sawyer You are beautiful. Do you want to be my girlfriend? Becky Your girlfriend? But I don´t know who you are!! Tom Sawyer Oh, this can be solved very quickly. TOM le da la mano de forma muy formal, se inclina un poco y después se acerca para darle dos besos en las mejillas. BECKY se queda un poco desconcertada. Tom Sawyer Good afternoon. My name is Tom Sawyer. I´m very pleased to meet you. Becky Pleased to meet you too. Tom Sawyer Now you know me. Do you want to be my girlfriend? Becky I don´t know… I have to think about it. I need to know more of you. Do you like school? Oh, I love school, particularly I love Maths. Tom Sawyer I don´t like school at all!. I like walking through the field… having sunbaths… but I don´t like working at all. Becky I don´t know… It seems that we don´t have a lot of things in common… Have you ever had a girlfriend? WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Tom Sawyer In fact, I already have a girlfriend called Amy. But I like you best. Becky (angry) I think this can be a problem for our relationship!!! Don´t you think so??? Tom Sawyer (thoughtful) Maybe you´re right. I didin´t realize… Becky Well, I´m leaving. It´s late and my parents will be waiting for me. BECKY se gira para marcharse, pero TOM la coge del brazo. Ella lleva un ramo con las flores que ha recogido. Tom Sawyer Wait Becky! Becky What do you want? Tom Sawyer Please, would you give me a flower? Becky Mmmm… I don´t know… Well take it. This one is for you. BECKY le da una flor y se marcha dando saltitos por la derecha. Becky Goodbye Tom Sawyer. TOM levanta el brazo para despedirse, pero ella sale antes de que él pueda decirle nada. TOM huele la flor. Tom Sawyer WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Goodbye Becky! Oh! That girl is wonderful! TOM camina hacia la izquierda y mientras camina, el telón cambia y vuelve a verse la casa de la primera escena. Scene 3 TOM entra en la casa y de dentro se oyen los gritos de la TÍA POLLY. Aunt Polly (off voice) Where have you been, Tom Sawyer? You will be the death of me! You´re a very bad boy Tom Sawyer! You are going to be locked up in this house for all this week. Until you have all the fence painted you won´t be allowed to go out. Go outside right now and begin painting! TOM sale de la casa, lleva un cubo de pintura y cuatro brochas. Deja tres en el suelo, se acerca hasta la valla que hay en el escenario y empieza a pintar de mala gana. Tom Sawyer What a drag! I don´t like painting at all! Mientras pinta, aparece HUCKLEBERRY FINN, un niño como él que lleva un sombrero y un bolso cruzado. HUCKLEBERRY FINN es muy expresivo, vocaliza mucho y cada vez que dice algo hace gestos muy exagerados. Huck Hi Tom Sawyer! Tom Sawyer Hello Huckleberry Finn! How are you? Huck A little bit tired. Tom Sawyer Why? Have you eaten anything? Huck WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
No… Tom Sawyer Haven´t you? Do you want a cookie? Huck Yes! I love cookies. TOM se saca una galleta del bolsillo y se la lanza a HUCKLEBERRY FINN, que la coge y empieza a comérsela. Tom Sawyer Why haven´t you had breakfast? Where are your parents? Huck I don´t have a mother… And I don´t know where my father is. Tom Sawyer Oh! That´s very sad… Huck I don´t care because I´m very strong and I´m free. I can do everything whenever I want. Although… sometimes I would like to have a mother… And what about you? Have you got parents? Tom Sawyer No, I don´t have parents either. I live with my aunt, my Aunt Polly. She´s always angry with me and she shouts all along. But she loves me a lot. Huck How lucky you are! Listen. Given you have no parents, like myself, maybe we can become family, you and I. Tom Sawyer Sure! From now on you and I are family. TOM le da la mano y sigue pintando la valla. WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Huck Very well! What are you doing? Tom Sawyer I´m painting the fence but it´s very boring. Huck Dou you have to paint all the fence??? Tom Sawyer Yes. Huck Really? Do you have to paint the whole fence??? Tom Sawyer Yes. Huck What a pain! Look what I´ve got. HUCKLEBERRY FINN saca de su bolso un gato muerto (de peluche). Tom Sawyer Wow! What´s that? Huck It´s a cat. A dead cat. Tom Sawyer A dead cat??? Yuck! Gross! HUCKLEBERRY FINN hace girar al gato sobre su cabeza y después lo huele. Huck WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
No! It smells good. And It does everything I say. Look. HUCKLEBERRY FINN deja al gato en el suelo. Huck Lie down kitten! Very well! HUCKLEBERRY FINN le da la vuelta. Huck Now turn around kitten. Very well! What a smart cat! HUCKLEBERRY FINN se agacha y conforme le da la orden, lanza un poco lejos al gato. Huck Now jump! Very well! HUCKLEBERRY FINN recoge al gato y lo lleva junto a TOM SAWYER en actitud amenazadora. Huck And now kitten... Attack Tom Sawyer!!! Attack!!! Attack!!! HUCKLEBERRY FINN hace como si el gato fuera a morder a TOM SAWYER, imitando los ruidos de un león hambriento. TOM SAWYER huye despavorido y gritando. Los dos corren por el escenario. HUCKLEBERRY FINN baja hasta el público y hace como que el gato muerto les va a atacar también y después vuelve a subir. Los dos se quedan parados en el centro del escenario. Tom Sawyer Wait Huckleberry Finn. Whay are you carrying a dead cat in your bag? Huck Because it´s a magic cat. If you take it to the graveyard in the night you can get a treasure. Tom Sawyer WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
To the graveyard? Scary! But as your cat is magical we can be sure about not been harmed. Huck All right. Tonight we are going to the graveyard along with my dead cat. What a scary night! TOM SAWYER vuelve a coger la brocha y se pone a pintar la valla. Tom Sawyer Well, I have to keep going on painting. Huck Do you really have to paint all the fence??? Tom Sawyer Yes. Huck Really, do you have to paint the whole fence??? Tom Sawyer Yes. Huck What a drag! Why don´t we play rock, scissors, paper? Can you play? Mientras explica el juego, HUCKLEBERRY FINN hace gestos para acompañar a sus palabras. Huck Its´ easy. We count one, two and three. Then, each of us have to choose one among them, rock, scissors or paper, saying it out loud. Paper covers rock, rock crushers scissors and scissors cuts paper. Tom Sawyer (to the audience) WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Very well. But how about playing with someone else? Does anybody want to come to the scenary to play with us? We need three volunteers. We will play and loosers must paint a little. TOM consigue tres voluntarios para que suban al escenario y se sitúan formando un semicírculo. Mientras HUCKLEBERRY juega con ellos, TOM se pone a pintar. Tom Sawyer (ironic while painting) I love painting. It´s the best thing in the world. Awesome. Los voluntarios van jugando y, conforme pierden, les dan una brocha y van pasando por la zona de pintar uno tras otro. TOM les pide que repitan con él sus frases. Tom Sawyer I love painting. It´s the best thing in the world. Awesome. Después de uno o dos minutos jugando a “Piedra, papel o tijera” y en un momento en que coincida que los tres voluntarios están pintando, TOM y HUCKLEBERRY se separan un poco de ellos. TOM pregunta alternativamente a los voluntarios y al público, pidiéndoles que repitan las respuestas. Tom Sawyer Do you like painting? Volunteers/Audience I love painting. It´s the best thing in the world. Awesome. Huck How smart are we! We cheated them! Now we don´t have to paint and they think that painting is funny! Tom Sawyer (laughing) Ji, ji,ji… Run! Let´s go! TOM y HUCKLEBERRY salen corriendo por el lado izquierdo y dejan a los voluntarios pintando. Unos segundos después vuelve TOM. Tom Sawyer It was a joke!!! Thank you all for helping us. Let´s give a big applause to the volunteers! TOM recoge las brochas y las guarda. Pide a los voluntarios que bajen del escenario. WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Scene 4 TOM SAWYER mira a la izquierda, por el lado por el que se ha marchado HUCKLEBERRY FINN. Tom Sawyer Huckleberry Finn! Where are you? Come here! Oh, it seems he has gone away… Huckleberry Finn! Well, I´ll be on my own. TOM SAWYER pasea por el escenario buscando qué hacer, da un par de patadas en el aire, silba, camina con las manos enlazadas detrás de la cabeza, juega con su sombrero, pero nada de eso le entretiene demasiado y parece aburrirse. De repente, ve algo que se mueve en el suelo: Es una pulga que da saltos. Sigue con la cabeza los saltos de la pulga que salta e intenta atraparla. Después de varios intentos, por fin lo consigue. TOM empieza a jugar con la pulga haciendo ruidos para acompañar sus gestos: La deja en el suelo y hace el ruido de un muelle, como si la pulga hubiera dado un salto y él corre con las manos formando un cuenco para recogerla en la caída. Repite esta acción dos veces más y en, cada uno de los saltos, la pulga tarda más en caer. En el cuarto salto, TOM hace el ruido de un cohete, como si la pulga ascendiera a una velocidad muy grande, mira hacia arriba buscándola, se pone la mano en la frente como visera para intentar adivinar dónde está y, por fin, la ve en el cielo y la señala. Hace el ruido de un peso que cae a gran velocidad y corre por el escenario mirando hacia arriba y con las manos extendidas para intentar recogerla. TOM la consigue recoger y hace un ruido suave como si la pulga hubiera caído en una cama. (Quizás se podría utilizar en este momento uno de esos juguetes pequeños de soldados con paracaídas para que fuera más visual la caída de la pulga). Para celebrar que la pulga ha caído bien, TOM cierra los puños y levanta los brazos en señal de victoria, dando pequeños saltos, hasta que se da cuenta de que al cerrar el puño puede estar aplastando a la pulga. Abre la mano derecha y con un dedo de la mano izquierda intenta acariciarla. Tom Sawyer Oh, forgive me little flea… A TOM le empieza a temblar la mano derecha, como si la pulga controlara el movimiento de su mano y se mira, asustado, la mano. Corre de izquierda a derecha por el escenario empujado por la fuerza de su mano. Tom Sawyer (shouting) WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Sorry, I didn´t meant to… It wasn´t on purpose. Da varios giros sobre sí mismo empujado por la fuerza de su mano, hasta que al final se cae al suelo. Tras unos segundos en el suelo, la pulga le tira de la mano para que se levante y TOM se pone de pie. La mano derecha se le cierra y se queda con el dedo índice señalándole. TOM mira a su mano que, señalándole y dando pequeñas sacudidas arriba y abajo, parece recriminarle que se haya portado mal. Tom Sawyer It´s true, you´re right. I will never do it again. Forgive me… Desde detrás del escenario se escucha la voz de la TÍA POLLY. Aunt Polly (off voice) Tom, is that you? Are you there? TOM mira a su mano derecha extendida con preocupación. Tom Sawyer Oh, oh… Aunt Polly is coming… Come on little friend, hide here. Jump into my pocket so she can´t see you. Quickly! Aunt Polly (off voice) Tom Sawyer! I know it´s you! Answer me! TOM hace el ruido del salto de la pulga y abre el bolsillo de su pantalón para que pueda entrar. Cuando cae dentro, TOM hace el ruido de la caída. Tom Sawyer Well done! TOM se recompone y disimula. La TÍA POLLY sale de la casa, ve a TOM SAWYER y baja los escalones, se acerca hasta él con dificultad con intención de tirarle de una oreja, pero él se zafa. Aunt Polly What were you doing? Why don´t you answer your aunt? Tom Sawyer Nothing. I wasn´t doing anything. WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Aunt Polly Nothing? Are you sure? I can´t believe you. You´re a very bad boy! I´m sure you were doing some of your wicked things! Tom Sawyer No, really I wasn´t. Aunt Polly Wasn´t you? Well, I have to believe you. Where have you been all along? Tom Sawyer Well, I was wandering… No! I mean… I was at school… Aunt Polly Well then. I´m sure you´ve learned a lot of things there… Tom Sawyer Of course. Aunt Polly So… Don´t you mind if I asked you some questions? Tom Sawyer (doubting) Well, I think it´s not a good moment right now… Maybe later… Aunt Polly No, no. It´ll be now. I want to know what you have learned at the school today. Tom Sawyer Well, If you can´t help it… If that is what it takes… Aunt Polly Let me see Tom Sawyer… Name a spanish city. Aunt Polly WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
That´s easy. There are a lot of cities in Spain. For example England, France, China… La TÍA POLLY hace ademán de cogerle para zurrarle, pero no le pilla. Aunt Polly Wrong Tom Sawyer!!! You have answered very bad!!! Tom Sawyer Have I? Mmmm… I´m not very good in Geography. Aunt Polly Ok then. I´m going to ask you about Maths. Let´s see if you can do better this time. How is it one plus five? Tom Sawyer (counting with his fingers) One plus five is… One plus five is… Oh, how difficult! TOM mira al público. Tom Sawyer (to the audience) Could anybody help me? Could you tell me how much is it one plus five? How much? Eight? Fifteen? Two hundred? TOM parece haber descubierto la respuesta correcta. Tom Sawyer (to Aunt Polly) I got it!. One plus five is… a lot of people! Aunt Polly A lot of people? Is that your answer? A lot of people? Come here! La TÍA POLLY intenta cogerle otra vez, pero TOM es más rápido. Tom Sawyer Wait a minute! Change! TOM SAWYER da una palmada y los dos se ponen a correr en círculo en dirección contraria. Unos segundos después TOM da otra palmada. Tom Sawyer Again! Change! Vuelven a cambiar el sentido de su carrera y siguen dando vueltas en círculo. La TÍA POLLY se sale del círculo y se queda parada descansando. Cuando se recupera un poco, vuelve al círculo y continúa su persecución. TOM SAWYER da otra palmada. Tom Sawyer Again! Change! Otra vez cambian el sentido de la carrera y siguen dando vueltas en círculo. La TÍA POLLY vuelve a salir del círculo, espera a que TOM SAWYER pase varias veces hasta que le coge por el brazo y le frena en seco. La TÍA POLLY levanta su brazo con la intención de darle un golpe en la cabeza a TOM, que levanta sus manos para protegerse. Aunt Polly Now you will find out!!! Can´t you see? TOM mira el bolsillo en el que había guardado la pulga y empieza a hablar con el interior. Tom Sawyer Hello Miss Flea! Do you want to go for a walk? Ah… very good idea… It´s a lovely day. TOM pone su mano extendida para que la pulga salte del bolsillo a la mano. Tom Sawyer Hop! La pulga salta a su mano. Tom Sawyer And now… A big jump! TOM hace el sonido de la pulga al saltar y mira hacia arriba. TOM aplaude. Tom Sawyer Wow! Very good jump! Very artistic! Aunt Polly What was that? Tom Sawyer I don´t know. La TÍA POLLY se toca la espalda, primero se palpa despacio y después se empieza a rascar cada vez más rápido. Aunt Polly Ouch! TOM se ríe y se va corriendo hasta salir por la parte derecha del escenario. La TÍA POLLY se sigue rascando y se dirige hacia la casa. Aunt Polly You will find out when I get muy hands on you! Ouch! La TÍA POLLY sale de la escena. Scene 5 Con un telón negro de fondo, HUCKLEBERRY FINN y TOM SAWYER se adentran en el cementerio con un candil encendido. Todo está oscuro. Huck Tom! Come here! It was a joke Tom! HUCKLEBERRY FINN se acerca hasta el lateral izquierdo para buscar a TOM, pero no parece verle. Huck (scared) Now I´m alone… In the middle of the night… Here, at the graveyard… I´m afraid… Besides, it´s cold in here… Se oyen unos ruidos de golpes y gritos. Huck What´s that? Por el lado derecho del escenario aparece el INDIO JOE, un hombre vestido de indio, con una corona de plumas en la cabeza. Lleva un saco lleno de monedas cargado al hombro y en la otra mano un palo de madera. Camina con mucho sigilo, rastreando huellas. Cuando habla, lo hace como un indio de las películas de vaqueros. Indian Joe “Jau”! Who is there? El INDIO JOE se mueve por el escenario y olisquea en el ambiente. Indian Joe I know that someone is hiding in here. It´s a boy. A boy with a hat. I can smell a dead cat also. HUCKLEBERRY FINN se intenta escabullir, pero el INDIO JOE le atrapa. Huck Ahhh!!! Leave me!!! Indian Joe Yes… I´m going lo leave you… without your head!!! Huck Release me!!! Help!!! Why do you want to kill me? Indian Joe You´ve seen my treasure so you can tell anybody about it. HUCKLEBERRY FINN le da una patada y consigue alejarse unos metros. Coge del suelo una estaca y se defiende del ataque con el palo del INDIO JOE. Ambos combaten con los palos como si llevaran espadas. Después de un momento, paran. Huck Who are you? BECKY está sentada en un tronco de un árbol. Por la izquierda entra TOM SAWYER. Lleva un gran bloc de dibujo y un lápiz. Tom Sawyer Hello Becky! Becky Hi Tom! Tom Sawyer What are you doing? Becky Nothing. And you? Tom Sawyer I´m drawing. Can I draw a picture of you? Becky Yes, you can. What do I have to do? Tom Sawyer Whatever you want. Someone´s coming… Huck We have to hide ourselves TOM SAWYER sale del escenario por la izquierda, pero HUCKLEBERRY FINN se queda agazapado. Se arrastra por el suelo del escenario, reptando como un animal y de vez en cuando se incorpora como una nutria y mira hacia los lados, haciendo movimientos mecánicos alternativos a izquierda y derecha con la cabeza. Hace esto el tiempo suficiente como para que al actor que hace de INDIO JOE le dé tiempo a cambiarse. Aparece por la derecha corriendo el INDIO JOE haciendo sonar su bolsa llena de monedas y se frena en el centro del escenario. HUCKLEBERRY FINN se queda tumbado y quieto en el suelo. El INDIO JOE mira hacia los lados y al verse solo, resopla. WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015

Indian Joe What´s that? Teh wolves has come into the woods! Everyone wants the treasure… but the treasure is mine! El INDIO JOE lanza su bolsa de monedas encima de HUCKLEBERRY FINN. Huck Auuuuuuuuuuuu! Indian Joe The wolves are near here… I´m going to kill them… El INDIO JOE vuelve a lanzar su bolsa de monedas encima de HUCKLEBERRY FINN que esta vez, ante la amenaza, abre la boca para gritar pero no dice nada. El INDIO JOE vuelve a coger la bolsa. Indian Joe I have to hide the treasure… the treasure is mine! No one is going to to take the treasure away from me… I´m going to hide it in the number two where the “x” is. Yes, I think I´m going to do that. I´m going to hide it in that very spot. Cuando dice su última frase, El INDIO JOE da un puñetazo en el suelo, cerca de HUCKLEBERRY FINN que no puede reprimir su dolor y grita. Huck Auuuuuuu! Indian Joe The wolves are very close! HUCKLEBERRY FINN se levanta dolorido y se queja. Huck Ouch! It hurts! At least Indian Joe hasn´t seen me. TOM SAWYER entra por el lado izquierdo. Tom Sawyer How are you? Are you ok? Huck (shouting) I´m not very well! Indian Joe has hit me with his big bag of coins! Tom Sawyer Yes, I´ve seen it. I was hidden behind a tree. Does it hurts? Huck (in pain) Yes. Tom Sawyer I have a cure which will make you feel better. Raise your arms. Huck Ok. HUCKLEBERRY FINN le hace caso y levanta los brazos. Tom Sawyer Now, raise your right leg. Huck Very well. All right. TOM SAWYER le deja en esa posición unos segundos y se aleja un poco de HUCKLEBERRY FINN sin hacer ruido. De repente, TOM SAWYER empieza a gritar y se acerca corriendo hasta HUCKLEBERRY FINN, que cree que va a atacarle e intenta protegerse. Cuando está a su lado, TOM SAWYER zarandea un poco a HUCKLEBERRY FINN y se ríe. Huck What were you doing? Why did you do that? You scared me. Tom Sawyer I´m sorry. I did it to heal you. Huck How? It´s so good to see you! La TÍA POLLY se acerca hasta que abraza a TOM SAWYER y le da muchos besos sonoros por toda la cara. Aunt Polly Where have you been? I´ve been very worried! La TÍA POLLY vuelve a abrazar a TOM SAWYER y los dos juntos entran en la casa. Scene 9 Un telón oscuro simboliza el interior de una cueva. En el suelo hay un gran “X” que marca el sitio donde va a enterrarse el tesoro. El INDIO JOE entra por la izquierda con su bolsa de monedas y la hace sonar conforme camina. Camina con mucho cuidado, haciendo equilibrios y cuando avanza un poco por un lado del escenario, tropieza y casi se cae. Consigue mantener el equilibrio como si estuviera al borde de un precipicio. Se agacha, deja las bolsas, coge una piedra del suelo y la lanza fuera del escenario. Entonces hace el sonido de un silbido mantenido, como de un cuerpo que tarda mucho en caer y finalmente un pequeño golpe. El INDIO JOE pone gesto de preocupación. Indian Joe Oh! I have to be very careful. Cave Number Two is dangerous. Its´ very high… WONDERLAND THEATER COMPANY – JULIO 2015
Sigue caminando hasta llegar al centro del escenario. Indian Joe I am safe here. I am happy because I am a very rich man. I´ve got six hundred and fifty silver coins inside this bag. I have to hide it so no one could steal my treasure from me. El INDIO JOE empieza a escarbar en el suelo en el lugar donde está la “X” y encuentra otra bolsa llena de monedas. La levanta, mira su interior, coge una, la mira con detenimiento, luego la muerde y finalmente grita y comienza a dar saltos de emoción, levantando las dos bolsas. Indian Joe (overjoyed) Another person hid here other treasure!!! I´m a very very very rich man!!! I´ve got six hundred and fifty silver coins inside this bag!!! And I´ve got five hundred golden coins inside this other one!!! Comienza a hacer una danza india para celebrarlo. Moviendo los brazos y las piernas, haciendo sonar las bolsas con las monedas. Indian Joe (to the audience) Does anybody want to dance with me? I need five volunteers. Sube del público a cinco voluntarios y les comienza a explicar el baile. Va repitiendo las instrucciones cada vez que sea necesario. Indian Joe (to the volunteers) Now we´re going to dance an indian victory dance. I am going to dance alone first and then we can dance together. Please repeat after me. First, put your right arm up and your left arm behind. Second, put your left arm up and your left arm behind. Now we raise our knees. First the left one and then the right one while we walk in circles. Then we raise both arms looking upwards and put them down looking downwards. El INDIO JOE les acompaña para que bajen del escenario y se vuelve a quedar solo, en el centro y con las dos bolsas de monedas, una en cada mano. Indian Joe Now I am going to hide my treasure. Coge las dos bolsas y las pone detrás de la “X” y hace como que cava un poco, ocultando las bolsas. Indian Joe (to the audience) Tomorrow I´ll come and take it with me. Se oyen voces y el INDIO JOE se pone alerta, con una mano abierta junto a la oreja. Indian Joe Oh!, I think someone´s is coming. Huck (off voice) Come on Tom Sawyer. I think this is the right way. Indian Joe (silently) I have to hide myself very quickly… El INDIO JOE avanza sigiloso hacia el lado derecho del escenario, pero cuando está cerca del borde, tropieza y cae fuera del escenario. Se oye un silbido mantenido, como si cayera desde una gran altura y, poco después, un golpe seco. Indian Joe (off voice) Oooooooucccchhhhh!!! TOM SAWYER y HUCKLEBERRY FINN se disponen a empezar a cavar cuando HUCKLEBERRY levanta el brazo. Huck Wait Tom Sawyer! What if we come across a trap? Tom Sawyer A trap? TOM SAWYER se tapa la nariz con una mano y con la otra intenta ventilar el aire que hay delante de él. HUCKLEBERRY deja de girar al gato por encima de su cabeza. Huck What shall I do now? Tom Sawyer Now throw the cat towards the “x”. Huck Ok, I´m going to throw it. HUCKLEBERRY vuelve a girar al gato por encima de su cabeza. Huck One…, two…, three!!! HUCKLEBERRY lanza al gato y, acto seguido, hay una pequeña explosión y salta un poco de humo y confeti. Tras unos segundos de confusión, TOM y HUCKLEBERRY se levantan de donde están escondidos. Tom Sawyer Are you all right Tom Sawyer? Huck Yes, I´m all right. What about you? Tom Sawyer Me too. Let´s look for the treasure. Huck Come on! Los dos se acercan al lugar donde está la “X” y cada uno de ellos coge una bolsa. Los dos saltan y gritan de alegría. Tom Sawyer Hurray!!! We´re rich!!! HUCKLEBERRY FINN y TOM SAWYER vuelven a hacer el mismo baile que había hecho anteriormente el INDIO JOE con los voluntarios, pero esta vez lo hacen ellos dos solos. Cuando terminan el baile, cada uno de ellos coge una bolsa y se marcha andando con mucho cuidado. Tom Sawyer It´s great! We could celebrate it eating a wonderful chicken with potatoes along Aunt Polly! Huck Ok! Come on! HUCKLEBERRY FINN y TOM SAWYER salen por el lado izquierdo del escenario. Scene 10 El fondo ha cambiado y ahora vuelve a ser el telón que simboliza el bosque. TOM SAWYER entra caminando por el lado derecho del escenario, cabizbajo. Tom Sawyer I don´t know why, but I´m feeling sad… I´ve got a treasure, and my Aunt Polly loves me a lot… but… I miss Becky… Oh Becky…! Conforme va diciendo el nombre de ella, el tono de TOM SAWYER se vuelve más fuerte y lastimero. Tom Sawyer Becky, My dear Becky, is angry with me… Becky, Oh Becky…! BECKY se sorprende al ver a TOM SAWYER y le mira con un poco de desprecio. Becky Ah… it´s you… I´ll go away then… BECKY se gira para marcharse pero TOM SAWYER corre hacia ella. Tom Sawyer No Becky, please don´t go… Becky Why shouldn´t I? You´ve been mean to me. Tom Sawyer I´m very sorry… Becky You said “if you are my girlfriend you have to do as I say and you have to be always with me “. And that´s no good. Tom Sawyer You´re so right! That´s a stupid thing to say. Becky I´m free to do whatever I want. And if I were your girlfriend I would be free to do so. Tom Sawyer You´re right. I´m very sorry… You are free and I am free. TOM SAWYER se pone a saltar y a bailar y BECKY sonríe. Los dos se cogen de la mano, se despiden del público y salen de la escena.
