Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time — August 25, 2013
REFLECTION
Brothers and sisters, as we gather in God’s name today, we
will be reminded that many besides us have been invited into
the kingdom of the Lord. We who bear the name of Christian
must live in such a way that we too will be recognized and
welcomed into the heavenly banquet hall. May our prayer
today be for welcoming hearts for all of God’s people wherever we meet them.

RCIA
The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) program will begin
on September 4. If you are an adult wanting to come into
full communion with the Catholic Church, this program can
help you to enter more fully into your faith and prepare
you to receive the sacraments. For more information,

BOOK PROJECT
Are you a parishioner who would like to support and get
involved in St. Joseph’s Book Project Fund Raising Campaign? We are looking for volunteers who can share their
knowledge and time, along with assisting and editing the

BIBLE STUDY:
BOOK OF REVELATION
Fr. Mathew will be resuming his Bible study classes on
August 29. Classes take place each Thursday at 9:00 a.m.
and 7:00 p.m. This session of classes will take an in-depth
look at the book of Revelation. You will:
•Learn the meaning of the mysterious figures and events
in the book of Revelation.
•Discover how the Mass is really heaven on earth.
•Learn about the Antichrist and his destruction.
•See the Second Coming of Christ and the Final Judgment in the context of history.
•Learn what will happen at the end of time and the establishment of a new heaven and a new earth.
If you intend to join the class, please read the Book of
Revelation before we begin. There will be a $30 donation
to cover the cost of materials. Please contact the parish
office at 447-2354 to register.
WEDNESDAY MASS AT 12:15
In response to requests from the parish, an additional
daily Mass will be held in the Chapel every Wednesday at
12:15 p.m., beginning September 4. This will be on a trial
basis for three months. Comments are welcome.
FLORAL MINISTRY
St. Joseph parishioners! Would you like to see more

SENATE BILL 131
Help us stop SB 131 (Beall). Current law treats victims of
child sexual abuse the same, regardless of where the
abuse took place and regardless of whether the abuser
worked for a public school, a private school or a religious
organization. Under SB 131, victims who were abused by
employees or volunteers of private or non-profit organizations would be able to sue those organizations even if
the statute of limitations was over. Victims who may have
been abused in public schools or by government workers,
on the other hand, get nothing. As the bill is currently
drafted, not only are they prevented from suing the
school, they can’t even sue the actual perpetrator who
committed the abuse. The California Catholic Conference

FAITH FORMATION
REFLECCIÓN DOMINICAL
Back to school also means “Back to Religious Education.” Have you registered for Faith Formation classes yet
for the 2013-2014 year? It's still not too late before classes
get filled! The date to register has been extended until September 15. Stop by the office on a Tuesday, Wednesday or
Thursday or by appointment to register. Parent meetings
for children receiving the sacraments will take place on September 18 (First Communion) and September 25
(Confirmation), both at 5:30 p.m. All classes begin on
Wednesday, October 2 at the scheduled time of your class.

HOSPITALITY IN THE QUAD
Please join us after the 5:00 p.m. Spanish Mass on Sunday
evening, August 25 for the monthly Hospitality in the Quad
Area (between the church and the rectory) to welcome all
new parishioners to the St. Joseph community and to answer any questions they might have. We also ask that all
current St. Joseph parishioners participate in the welcoming and fellowship. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

LEY SB 131
Ayúdenos a detener el Proyecto de ley SB 131 (Beall). Las
leyes actuales tratan a las víctimas del abuso infantil por
igual, independientemente del lugar donde haya ocurrido el
abuso y de si el abusador trabajaba para una escuela pública, una escuela privada o una organización religiosa. Conforme al Proyecto SB 131, las víctimas que hayan sufrido de
abuso en manos de empleados o voluntarios de alguna organización privada o sin fines de lucro, podrían demandar a
esas organizaciones aunque ya haya vencido el plazo de
prescripción. Por otro lado, las víctimas que posiblemente
hayan sufrido abusos en las escuelas públicas o en manos
de los trabajadores del gobierno, no reciben nada. Así como
está redactado este proyecto de ley ahora, no solamente se
les impide demandar a la escuela, sino que ni siquiera pueden demandar al mismo perpetuador que cometió el abuso.

FORMACIÓN DE FE
Regreso a la escuela también significa regreso a la educación religiosa. ¿Ha inscrito usted para las clases del año escolar 2013-2014? Todavía queda tiempo antes de que las clases

HOSPITALIDAD EN EL PATIO
