Nació en 1974 en el seno de una familia artística en Skopje, Macedonia. Cuando tenía
entre seis y doce años, Teona fue actriz infantil. Más tarde se formó como pintora y
obtuvo su BA en Diseño Gráfico. Abandonó su exitosa carrera como directora artística
para compañías de renombre internacional - Saatchi and Saatchi, Virgo Publicis - por la
dirección cinematográfica. En 1998 se inscribió en el programa cinematográfico MFA
en la Tisch School of Arts de la Universidad de Nueva York. Debutó como directora de
cortos en 2001 con Veta, que recibió el Premio Especial del Jurado en el Festival de
Cine de Berlín y que participó en la sección oficial de cortometrajes de Cinema Jove.
How I Killed a Saint, su primer largometraje, se estrenó en el Festival de Cine de
Rotterdam en 2004, y ganó varios premios por todo el mundo, como el de Mejor
Película Europea en el Festival de Cine Crossing Europe de Linz, Austria; y una
Mención Especial del Jurado en el Festival Cinema Jove.
Su penúltimo filme I Am from Titov Veles se ha distribuido en salas de cine de más de
15 paises entre 2008-2009, incluyendo los Estados Unidos, y se proyectó en la sección
official de los siguientes festivales: Festival de Cine de Berlín –Panorama Section;
Festival de Cine de Sarajevo (Premio Especial del Jurado); Festival de Cine de Toronto
–Discovery Section; Festival Cinema Jove (Mención Especial del Jurado). La película
se proyectó también en el Festival de Cine de Cannes 2008 –selección de ACID y ha
participado en más de 80 festivales de todo el mundo, donde ha obtenido más de 20
premios internacionales. Su tercer largo The Woman Who Brushed off Her Tears -con
Victoria Abril- se estrenó internacionalmente en el Festival de Cine de Berlín 2012
(Panorama Special).

She was born in 1974 into an artistic family, in Skopje, Macedonia. Between the ages of
six to twelve, Teona was a child actor. Later on she trained as a painter and obtained her
BA in Graphic Design. She ditched a successful career as art director for internationally
renowned companies (Saatchi and Saatchi, Virgo Publicis) for filmmaking. In 1998, she
enrolled in the MFA film program at New York University’s Tisch School of Arts.
She made her debut as short film director in 2001 with Veta, which received the Special
Jury award at the Berlin Film Festival. How I Killed a Saint, her first feature film, was
premiered at the 2004 Rotterdam Film festival and has won numerous prizes around the
world like Best European Film at the Crossing Europe Film festival (Linz, Austria) and
Special Mention by the Jury at the Cinema Jove Festival.
Her penultimate film I Am from Titov Veles has been theatrically distributed in 15
countries in 2008/2009, including in the USA, and was screened in the official
competition at the following festivals: Berlin Film Festival – Panorama Section;
Sarajevo Film Festival (Special Jury Award); Toronto Film Festival –Discovery section;
Cinema Jove (Special Mention by the Jury). The film also screened at 2008 Cannes
Film Festival - ACID selection and was invited to more than 80 festivals around the
world and won over 20 international awards.
Her third feature The Woman Who Brushed off Her Tears, with Victoria Abril, made
its world premiere at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival (Panorama Special).
