Tras el éxito cosechado el pasado año, la Fundación Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico
de Almagro continúa su apuesta por la creación escénica con el proyecto Ensayando un
clásico.
La Fundación Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Almagro propone esta iniciativa
internacional destinada a favorecer la formación artística de los creadores técnicoescénicos
-fundamentalmente directores, dramaturgos, escenógrafos, iluminadores, figurinistas y
músicos-, con el objetivo de fomentar y provocar la calidad artística de los proyectos en torno
al Barroco.
Para esta nueva edición, proponemos ahondar en obras cómicas del Siglo de Oro español.
Entendemos que la proliferación de obras dramáticas siempre impera en el sector de las artes
escénicas en español y creemos necesario el apoyo y la difusión de obras donde quede de
manifiesto el humor de nuestros autores del Siglo de Oro.
Desde su creación en 2011, la Fundación Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Almagro
ha apostado por la figura de los nóveles directores y dramaturgos a través de iniciativas como
el Certamen Internacional Almagro OFF.
No obstante, consideramos que debemos ampliar este apoyo al resto de creadores escénicos,
anteriormente citados, basándonos en la necesidad de ofrecer una mirada abierta, al tiempo
que concreta, sobre los proyectos artísticos, guiada por expertos en cada una de las profesiones
escénicas. Todo un proceso formativo becado por la Fundación para profundizar en los
proyectos que desembocarán en una muestra en work in progress sobre sus trabajos.

¿en qué cØnsiste?
Ensayando un clásico consiste en un work in progress en el que un máximo de 5 proyectos
tendrán la posibilidad de aprender, investigar y formarse junto a un grupo de expertos y
profesionales de renombrado prestigio del mundo escénico de carácter nacional e internacional.
Los proyectos deberán presentarse en torno al tema “El humor en el Siglo de Oro
español”, pudiéndose seleccionar cualquier comedia que tenga como base una temática
alegre, divertida, entretenida, etc.
A través de una convocatoria abierta de carácter nacional e internacional, de entre todos los
proyectos recibidos, se seleccionarán un máximo de cinco por un Comité de profesionales
teatrales.
Los elegidos tienen la oportunidad de aprender, investigar y formarse sobre la manera de
presentar un proyecto teatral, tanto escrito como verbal, gracias a la tutorización de profesores
expertos en las distintas disciplinas escénicas.
El proyecto se divide en dos partes:
1. Proceso formativo de los proyectos con los Maestros.
Tras unas primeras sesiones de encuentro, los participantes trabajarán, en primera instancia
sobre las ideas propuestas en sus proyectos junto a los expertos que se encargarán de apoyar,
profundizar y guiar dichos proyectos.
Durante este período, se llevarán a cabo sesiones de trabajo conjuntas e individualizadas,
organizadas como sesiones de trabajo tuteladas. De manera simultánea, los participantes
disfrutarán de talleres monográficos impartidos por profesionales de las artes escénicas.
Estas sesiones denominadas píldoras tienen el objetivo de complementar la formación
(comunicación, producción, diseño gráfico…).
Esta primera parte concluye con la exposición, de manera pública y conjunta, de los dossieres
por parte de los proyectos elegidos, provocando un debate abierto con el público, fomentando

así la interacción entre los creadores y el público en general.
Tras esta puesta en común, los Maestros y la Dirección de la Fundación seleccionarán un
máximo de 3 proyectos que pasarán a la segunda parte.
2. Puesta en práctica de los proyectos.
Una selección de un máximo de tres proyectos, tendrán la oportunidad de trabajar en
residencia –durante, aproximadamente, 3 semanas- para poner a prueba sus trabajos en un
tiempo de entre 20 y 25 minutos. Esto último se realizará de manera pública.

¿cómØ participar?
Para formar parte de Ensayando un clásico se abre una convocatoria de carácter nacional e
internacional para todos aquellos proyectos que deseen presentarse antes del 16 de octubre
de 2016.
Los proyectos que se presenten deberán cumplir con los siguientes requisitos:
- Cada proyecto deberá estar integrado por un director y/o dramaturgo, un iluminador y/o
músico y un escenógrafo y/o figurinista. Es decir, cada proyecto deberá integrar mínimo 3
creadores técnico-artísticos.
- Cada proyecto deberá presentar un boceto en el que se incluya la dirección, dramaturgia,
iluminación, música, escenografía y vestuario, sobre la temática anunciada: “El humor en el
Siglo de Oro español”.
- Los proyectos deberán ser presentados con la siguiente información: formulario de
inscripción, dossier informativo del pre proyecto y el currículo profesional de los integrantes.
- Podrán concurrir todos los proyectos, nacionales o internacionales, siendo condición
indispensable expresarse correctamente en español.

Expertos como guías. Cada proyecto incorporará los actores que considere necesarios para
su trabajo.
Se llevarán a cabo talleres formativos complementarios.
19 de diciembre de 2016.
Se realizará una presentación de los proyectos seleccionados y el Comité seleccionará un
máximo de 3 proyectos que continuarán el proceso del work in progress.
Del 9 de enero al 29 de enero 2017.
Los proyectos seleccionados contarán con 3 semanas de trabajo en Residencia.
Principios de febrero 2017.

Rehearsing a classic
After the success achieved last year, Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre
Foundation carries on with its support to the creation in Performing Arts with the project
Ensayando un clásico (Rehearsing a classic).
Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre Foundation, thanks to the collaboration
of the SGAE Foundation (the foundation of the Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers),
proposes this international initiative destined to favour the artistic formation of technicians
and stage creators- basically, directors, playwrights, theatrical designers, illuminators,
costume designers and musicians-, with the objective of encouraging the artistic quality of
the Baroque projects.
In this new edition, it has been proposed to go deeper through comic plays all along Spanish
Gold Century. It is our belief that the proliferation of dramas has been alwalys ahead among
Spanish theatrical world.
As a result of this, we firmly request for support and diffusion in which the sense of humour
from our classical authors shall be relevant.
Since its creation in 2011, Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre Foundation
has bet on the figure of new directors and playwrights through initiatives like the Almagro
Off International Contest. Nevertheless, we consider that we must increase this support
to the rest of the stage creators, previously mentioned, basing ourselves on the necessity of
offering an open mind while specifying, over the artistic projects, every stage profession that
is guided by experts. That is a whole formative process sponsored by the Foundation in order
to delve into the projects that will result in an exhibition of their works in work in progress.

What dØes it cØnsist Øf?
Rehearsing a classic consists of a work in progress in which a maximum of 5 projects will
have the chance of learning, researching and training themselves together with a group of
experts and highly regarded professionals of the world of national and international stage.
The projects should be presented about the topic “The sense of humour along the Spanish
Gold Century theatre”, it could be selected any joyful, funny and enjoyable comedy.
Through a national and international open official announcement, among all the projects
that will be received, a maximum of five will be selected by a Committee composed of
theatrical professionals. The chosen participants will have the opportunity to learn, research
and train themselves in the way to present a theatre project, both written and oral, thanks to
the coaching of expert professors in stagecraft.
This project is divided in two parts:
1. Projects’ training process with masters.
After the first meeting sessions, the participants shall work firstly on the proposed ideas
about their projects together with the experts who will take charge in supporting, going in
depth and guiding the said projects. During this period, some individual and collective work
sessions shall be carried out, organized as guided workshops.
Simultaneously, the participants shall also enjoy monographic workshops given by performing
arts masters. These workshops, called pills, have as an objective complementing the training
(communication, production, graphic design…).
This first part ends with the exposition, collectively and publicly, of the dossiers by the chosen
projects, originating a final open debate with the public and encouraging the interaction
between creators and public.
2. Projects put into practice
A selection of a maximum of three projects will have the opportunity of working in residence
–for three weeks approximately– in order to prove their works in a space of time of 20/25
minutes. This will be public.

HØw tØ jØin in?
To join in Rehearsing a classic, a national and international convocation shall be open for all
those projects that would like to take part before October 16th 2016.
Projects must fulfil the following requirements:
- Each project must include a director and/or playwright, a lightning technician and/or
musician and a stage designer and/or costume designer. In conclusion, each project must
include a minimum of three artistic technicians.
- Each project must present a draft that includes direction, play-writing, lightning, music,
scenography and costume design about the announced subject: “Sense of humour along the
Spanish Gold Century theatre” through the basis published here.
- Projects must be submitted with the following data: registration form, draft dossier and
participants’ professional CV.

Individual work on each project about their own works helped by some Experts as tutors.
Each project shall include the needed actors.
Supplementary training workshops will be held.
19th December 2016:
Presentation of the six projects. The Committee shall select a maximum of 3 projects that
will continue the work in progress.
From 9th to 29th January 2017:
the chosen projects shall have three weeks of work in Residence.
At the beginning of February 2017:
Work in progress’exhibition: Ensayando un clásico.
