My dear parishioners,
I hope all of you came out of last weekend’s
blizzard okay. It was incredible to see the consistent
snowfall, especially after the relatively mild winter
we had been having. One of the biggest issues we
have had here at the parish as many of you had, is
what to do with all the snow. There is only so much
space to place it after all the plowing and shoveling.
Wisely, many of you did not come to church last
weekend, but we did have a few faithful who braved
the cold and the snow. We had seven people at the 5
pm Mass, twenty-one at the 8 am, seventy-two at the
10 am and just over two hundred at the Spanish
Mass. Attendance was about one-third of what it
usually is and the collection was about one-fourth.
As you know, every parish survives primarily on the
Sunday collection. We took a hit of several thousand
dollars and we need every penny we get. If you are
able, I ask that you put last week’s offering and this
week’s offering in the collection to help us recuperate last week’s losses.
One of the biggest expenditures we had to
pay recently was the annual insurance bill. This
year our bill had an increase of $20,000. Part of it
was for the across the board increase that all parishes had to pay. Another major part of the increase
was that after a review of our records, it was discovered that we had not been paying property insurance
for the new school for the last number of years.
Our tenant pays the liability, but we as the landlord
are responsible for the property insurance, which
covers fire, weather and other kinds of damage. The
reason for the issue was that the billing was transferred from another company about eight years ago
and the new school was not transferred. I tried to
talk our way of it, but to no success. That is an
added increase I was not expecting when we prepared the budget. Thank you again for your generosity and understanding

Espero que todos hayan salido bien de la tormenta de nieve que tuvimos el fin de semana pasado.
Fue increíble ver la caída continua de nieve, especialmente después del invierno relativamente templado que
habíamos estado teniendo. Uno de los problemas más
grandes que hemos tenido aquí en la parroquia, como
también tuvieron muchos de Uds., es ¿qué hacer con toda la nieve? Solamente hay tanto espacio para ponerla
después de abrir paso y de toda la paleada. Prudentemente, muchos de Uds. no vinieron a misa este fin de
semana, pero si tuvimos unos cuantos fieles que desafiaron el frio y la nieve. Tuvimos siete personas en la misa
de las 5 pm, veintiún personas en la de las 8 am, setenta
y dos en la misa de 10 am y un poco más de doscientas
personas en la misa de español. La asistencia fue de más
o menos una tercera parte de lo que normalmente es y la
colecta fue más o menos una cuarta parte. Como Uds.
saben, todas las parroquias sobreviven principalmente de
la colecta de los domingos. Recibimos un golpe de varios miles de dólares y necesitamos cada centavo que
