NORMAS: EL AYUNO Y LA ABSTINENCIA
El miércoles de ceniza, 18 de febrero, y el viernes santo, 3 de abril, son días de abstinencia y de ayuno. También deben abstenerse los viernes (no comer carne) durante la Cuaresma. Esta no es sólo una forma de penitencia, sino también una oportunidad de hacer un balance o evaluar nuestra vida espiritual. Todas las personas a partir de los 18 años de edad y los que no hayan cumplido los 59 años de edad, deben
ayunar. Se permite comer una vez durante el día de ayuno, aunque también pueden
comer dos veces para mantener la energía, según la necesidad de cada individuo.
Sin embargo, estas dos comidas no deben igualar a la cantidad de una comida completa. No se puede comer entre comidas, pero está permitido tomar líquido, incluyendo leche y jugos. La abstinencia se debe cumplir desde los 14 años de edad en
adelante. En los días de abstinencia, no se debe comer carne, aunque si la salud o la
habilidad para cumplir su trabajo se ve seriamente afectado, la ley no lo obliga. Si tiene alguna duda sobre la práctica del ayuno o de la abstinencia, consulte el párroco.

Sábado Santo - último día de la Cuaresma, no hay Misa
ni comunión para conmemorar la Pasión y Muerte de
Jesús hasta la Vigilia de Pascua,
Pascua - día de la Resurrección de Jesús,
Pentecostés - descenso del Espíritu Santo sobre los
Apóstoles.

FORTALECER NUESTRO
BASE EN LA FE ya comenzó, organizado por nuestro párroco, Padre Paco. Se
toma lugar los viernes de la
cuaresma de 7:00 hasta las 8:30. El cursito está basado
en el programa que se llama “Ecos de Fe” el cual es
recomendado de nuestra diócesis . Cada clase, incluirá
un video, tareas de escribir (respuestas breves), y después compartirlas con un grupito. Los videos se tratan
de temas teologías como: la Misa y los otros Sacramentos, Sagrada Escritura, la Moralidad Católica, la Doctrina (el Credo). Este cursito es para adultos y jóvenes
maduros de 18 años y arriba y dura por los seis viernes
de la cuaresma. Favor, se les pide que no traigan niños
para podemos enfocarnos a las tareas del cursito. Se les
entregará un certificado parroquial para los que califiquen por su asistencia y participación activa. No hay
costo por el curso.

Jesus, prompted
by the Holy
Spirit, spent a
profitable period of 40 days
during which he
fasted, prayed
and was
tempted by the
devil. He emerged from His Lent with
such spiritual payoffs as masterful
knowledge of the wiles of the Devil
(who would tempt him again) and
clearer knowledge of God’s Will for
him and greater resolve to do it. This
Lent, the same Holy Spirit is prompting the faithful of St. Mary’s to similarly commit to observing Lent’s 40
days. By fasting and abstinence, almsgiving and praying more often and
with more devotion, and by knowing
where we are vulnerable to the devil’s
temptations, we hope to emerge at
Lent’s end favored with similar spiritual payoffs that Jesus enjoyed.

One way to practice giving alms this
Lent is by pledging and contributing to
our Bishop’s Annual Appeal. By so
doing we help Bishop Hartmayer help
the deserving needy throughout our
diocese. This year’s theme is “Give
with a Joyful Heart.” Last year St.
Mary’s contributed $14,853 to the
BAA; this year our parish target is just
$251 more and thus again achievable.
We pray the number of our parish
households participating will be even
greater than last year. Thank you for

The season of Lent with God’s grace prompts in us
desires to better know Jesus, to love Him more, to
follow Him more closer. These desires are integral
to our process of conversion during Lent. To realize
them we ought to avail ourselves of the Sacrament
of Confession, and all parishioners are urged to celebrate this Sacrament (“Reconciliation”) in a communal setting here or at a nearby parish (listed below).
These services involve adults, youth and eligible
children, and have on hand an ample number of confessors (bilingual priests included). Consult an Examination of Conscience guide ahead of time to prepare yourself well for your confession. Persons who
cannot make any of these services due to illness or
work schedule can phone the pastor through the end
of Lent and before Holy Thursday (04/01) to arrange
a mutually convenient time.
