Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi, qatarí condenado a 10 años de prisión, fue indultado
por el presidente de Emiratos Árabes Unidos (EAU) y devuelto a su país el 22 de mayo.

El presidenta de EAU, Sheikh Jalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, concedió el 22 de mayo el indulto a Hamad Ali
Mohammad al-Hamadi, qatarí de 33 años a quien la Sala de Seguridad del Estado del Tribunal Supremo Federal
de Abu Dabi había condenado a 10 años de prisión el 18 de mayo. Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi fue puesto
en libertad ese mismo día y devuelto a Qatar,

Había sido juzgado, junto con otro cuatro qataríes, en aplicación del Código Penal y la legislación sobre
ciberdelitos, por cargos como "insultar los símbolos [las autoridades] de EAU" publicando información, noticias,
rumores y fotos en Twitter con objeto de ridiculizar y dañar el prestigio y la reputación del Estado. Los otros cuatro
hombres fueron juzgados in absentia y condenados a cadena perpetua. Al parecer, los cinco trabajaban para los
servicios de Seguridad del Estado de Qatar.

Según la información disponible, Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi "confesó" haber entrado en EAU en
septiembre de 2013 y comprado teléfonos móviles que entregó a uno de los nombres condenados posteriormente
junto con él. Los teléfonos se utilizaron luego para publicar tuits que se consideró insultantes para EAU. El juicio
comenzó el 19 de enero.
Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi había sido detenido en el puesto fronterizo de Al Ghuwaifat el 27 de junio de
2014, el mismo día que su compatriota Yousif Abdulsamad Abdulghani al-Mullah. Viajaba cada uno en su propio
automóvil por el sur de Qatar y pasaron con Arabia Saudí para entrar en EAU por su frontera occidental. Yousif
Abdulsamad Abdulghani al-Mullah fue puesto en libertad el 18 de marzo y devuelto a Qatar.

URGENT ACTION
QATARI NATIONAL PARDONED AND DEPORTED
Qatari national, Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi, who had been sentenced to 10 years in
prison, was pardoned by the president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and deported
back to Qatar on 22 May.
The president of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on 22 May issued a pardon for Hamad Ali
Mohammad al-Hamadi, a 33-year-old Qatari national who had been sentenced to 10 years in prison on 18 May by
the State Security Chamber of the Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi. Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi was
released the same day and deported back to Qatar.
Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi was tried, along with four other Qatari men, under the Penal Code and
Cybercrime law, on charges including “insulting the UAE’s symbols (UAE officials)” by publishing information,
news, rumours and photos on Twitter with a view to ridiculing and damaging the prestige and status of the State.
The four other men were tried in their absence and sentenced to life imprisonment. All five men appear to have
worked for the Qatari State Security Apparatus.
Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi is said to have “confessed” to entering the UAE in September 2013 and buying
smartphones and UAE SIM cards which he handed to one of the other men later convicted with him. The phones
were then used to publish tweets deemed insulting to the UAE. Their trial began on 19 January.
Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi was arrested on 27 June 2014 at the al-Ghuwaifat border post, the same day as
Yousif Abdulsamad Abdulghani al-Mullah a fellow Qatari national. They had been travelling alone, each driving his
own car through southern Qatar, and Saudi Arabia before arriving at UAE’s western border. Yousif Abdulsamad
Abdulghani al-Mullah was released on 18 March and deported back to Qatar.
