La capacidad de una variedad para restringir el crecimiento y desarrollo de una plaga o enfermedad
específica y el daño que estas causan cuando se comparan con variedades sensibles, bajo
condiciones medioambientales y presiones similares de plaga o enfermedad. Las variedades
resistentes pueden mostrar algunos síntomas o daños de la enfermedad bajo una fuerte presión de la
plaga o enfermedad. Se definen 2 niveles de resistencia:
• RESISTENCIA ALTA (HR): Las variedades limitan el crecimiento y desarrollo de la plaga o
enfermedad específica bajo una presión normal de la enfermedad o plaga, cuando se compara
con variedades sensibles. Sin embargo puede que estas variedades muestren algunos síntomas o

Terminology
RESISTANCE
The ability of a plant variety to restrict the growth and development of a specified pest or disease
and/or the damage they cause when compared to susceptible varieties under similar environmental
conditions and/or pest or disease pressure. Resistant varieties may exhibit some disease symptoms
or damage under heavy pest or disease pressure. Two levels of resistance are defined:
• HIGH RESISTANCE (HR): Plant varieties that restrict the growth and development of the specified
pest or disease under normal pest or disease pressure when compared to susceptible varieties.
These plant varieties may, however, exhibit some symptoms or damage under heavy pest or
pathogen pressure.
• INTERMEDIATE RESISTANCE (IR): Plant varieties that restrict the growth and development of the
specified pest or disease, but may exhibit a greater range of symptoms when compared to highly
resistant varieties. Intermediately resistant plant varieties will still show less severe symptoms or
damage than susceptible plant varieties when grown under similar environmental conditions and/
or pest or disease pressure.
