WORD FROM THE PASTOR
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
This Sunday the Lord sends us to work for the Kingdom of
God and avoid idolatry, a message that Pope Francis eloquently proclaims with words and gestures from the beginning of
his pontificate.
Here is the life program put forward by the Pope at the conclusion of World Youth Day in Rio.
“Go. During these days here in Rio, you have been able to enjoy the wonderful experience of meeting Jesus, meeting him together with others, and you have sensed the joy of faith. But
the experience of this encounter must not remain locked up in
your life or in the small group of your parish, your movement,
or your community. That would be like withholding oxygen
from a flame that was burning strongly. Faith is a flame that
grows stronger the more it is shared and passed on, so that
everyone may know, love and confess Jesus Christ, the Lord
of life and history.
Careful, though! Jesus did not say: “go, if you would like to,
if you have the time”, but he said: “Go and make disciples of
all nations.” Sharing the experience of faith, bearing witness
to the faith, proclaiming the Gospel: this is a command that
the Lord entrusts to the whole Church, and that includes you;
but it is a command that is born not from a desire for domination, from the desire for power, but from the force of love,
from the fact that Jesus first came into our midst and did not
give us just a part of himself, but he gave us the whole of
himself, he gave his life in order to save us and to show us the
love and mercy of God. Jesus does not treat us as slaves, but
as people who are free , as friends, as brothers and sisters; and
he not only sends us, he accompanies us, he is always beside
us in our mission of love.
Where does Jesus send us? There are no borders, no limits:
he sends us to everyone. The Gospel is for everyone, not just
for some. It is not only for those who seem closer to us, more
receptive, more welcoming. It is for everyone. Do not be
afraid to go and to bring Christ into every area of life, to the
fringes of society, even to those who seem farthest away, most
indifferent. The Lord seeks all, he wants everyone to feel the
warmth of his mercy and his love…
Do not be afraid. Some people might think: “I have no particular preparation, how can I go and proclaim the Gospel?”
My dear friend, your fear is not so very different from that of
Jeremiah, when he was called by God to be a prophet. “Ah,
Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am
only a youth”. God says the same thing to you as he said to
Jeremiah: “Be not afraid ... for I am with you to deliver you”
(Jer 1:7,8). He is with us!
“Do not be afraid!” When we go to proclaim Christ, it is he
himself who goes before us and guides us. When he sent his
disciples on mission, he promised: “I am with you always”
(Mt 28:20). And this is also true for us! Jesus never leaves
anyone alone! He always accompanies us
And then, Jesus did not say: “One of you go”, but “All of you
go”: we are sent together. Dear young friends, be aware of
the companionship of the whole Church and also the communion of the saints on this mission. When we face challenges

together, then we are strong, we discover resources we did
not know we had. Jesus did not call the Apostles to live in
isolation, he called them to form a group, a community.
The final word: serve. The opening words of the psalm that
we proclaimed are: “Sing to the Lord a new song”. What
is this new song? It does not consist of words, it is not a
melody, it is the song of your life, it is allowing our life to
be identified with that of Jesus, it is sharing his sentiments,
his thoughts, his actions. And the life of Jesus is a life for
others. The life of Jesus is a life for others. It is a life of
service.
Saint Paul says: “I have made myself a slave to all, that I
might win the more” (1 Cor 9:19). In order to proclaim Jesus, Paul made himself “a slave to all”. Evangelizing means
bearing personal witness to the love of God, it is overcoming our selfishness, it is serving by bending down to wash
the feet of our brethren, as Jesus did.
Three ideas: Go, do not be afraid, and serve. Go, do not be
afraid, and serve. If you follow these three ideas, you will
experience that the one who evangelizes is evangelized,
the one who transmits the joy of faith receives more joy…
Do not be afraid to be generous with Christ, to bear witness to his Gospel. In the first Reading, when God sends the
prophet Jeremiah, he gives him the power to “pluck up and
to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to
plant” (1:10). It is the same for you. Bringing the Gospel is
bringing God’s power to pluck up and break down evil and
violence, to destroy and overthrow the barriers of selfishness, intolerance and hatred, so as to build a new world.”

El Señor nos exhorta este domingo a trabajar por el Reino de
Dios y a evitar la idolatría, un mensaje que el Papa Francisco
ha estado proclamando con gran elocuencia desde el comienzo tanto con sus palabras como con sus gestos.
He aquí el programa de vida que el Papa nos propuso al concluir la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud en Rio.
“Vayan. En estos días aquí en Río, han podido experimentar la
belleza de encontrar a Jesús y de encontrarlo juntos, han sentido la alegría de la fe. Pero la experiencia de este encuentro no
puede quedar encerrada en su vida o en el pequeño grupo de
la parroquia, del movimiento o de su comunidad. Sería como
quitarle el oxígeno a una llama que arde. La fe es una llama
que se hace más viva cuanto más se comparte, se transmite,
para que todos conozcan, amen y profesen a Jesucristo, que es
el Señor de la vida y de la historia.
Pero ¡cuidado! Jesús no ha dicho: si quieren, si tienen tiempo
vayan, sino que dijo: «Vayan y hagan discípulos a todos los
pueblos». Compartir la experiencia de la fe, dar testimonio
de la fe, anunciar el evangelio es el mandato que el Señor
confía a toda la Iglesia, también a ti; es un mandato que no
nace de la voluntad de dominio, de la voluntad de poder, sino
de la fuerza del amor, del hecho que Jesús ha venido antes
a nosotros y nos ha dado, no nos dio algo de sí, sino se nos
dio todo él, él ha dado su vida para salvarnos y mostrarnos
el amor y la misericordia de Dios. Jesús no nos trata como a
esclavos, sino como a personas libres, amigos, hermanos; y no
sólo nos envía, sino que nos acompaña, está siempre a nuestro
lado en esta misión de amor.
¿Adónde nos envía Jesús? No hay fronteras, no hay límites:
nos envía a todos. El evangelio no es para algunos sino para
todos. No es sólo para los que nos parecen más cercanos, más
receptivos, más acogedores. Es para todos. No tengan miedo
de ir y llevar a Cristo a cualquier ambiente, hasta las periferias
existenciales, también a quien parece más lejano, más indiferente. El Señor busca a todos, quiere que todos sientan el calor
de su misericordia y de su amor…
Sin miedo. Puede que alguno piense: «No tengo ninguna
preparación especial, ¿cómo puedo ir y anunciar el evangelio?». Querido amigo, tu miedo no se diferencia mucho del de
Jeremías, escuchamos en la lectura recién, cuando fue llamado
por Dios para ser profeta: «¡Ay, Señor, Dios mío! Mira que
no sé hablar, que sólo soy un niño». También Dios les dice a
ustedes lo que le dijo a Jeremías: «No les tengas miedo, que
yo estoy contigo para librarte» (Jr 1,6.8). Él está con nosotros.
«No tengan miedo». Cuando vamos a anunciar a Cristo, es él
mismo el que va por delante y nos guía. Al enviar a sus discípulos en misión, ha prometido: «Yo estoy con ustedes todos
los días» (Mt 28,20). Y esto es verdad también para nosotros.
Jesús no nos deja solos, nunca deja solo a nadie. Nos acompaña siempre.
Además, Jesús no dijo: «Andá», sino «Vayan»: somos enviados juntos. Queridos jóvenes, sientan la compañía de toda la
Iglesia, y también la comunión de los santos, en esta misión.
Cuando juntos hacemos frente a los desafíos, entonces somos
fuertes, descubrimos recursos que pensábamos que no tenía-
mos. Jesús no ha llamado a los apóstoles para que vivan
aislados, los ha llamado a formar un grupo, una comunidad.
La última palabra: para servir. Al comienzo del salmo que
hemos proclamado están estas palabras: «Canten al Señor
un cántico nuevo». ¿Cuál es este cántico nuevo? No son
palabras, no es una melodía, sino que es el canto de su vida,
es dejar que nuestra vida se identifique con la de Jesús, es
tener sus sentimientos, sus pensamientos, sus acciones. Y la
vida de Jesús es una vida para los demás, la vida de Jesús
es una vida para los demás. Es una vida de servicio.
San Pablo decía: «Me he hecho esclavo de todos para ganar
a los más posibles» (1 Co 9,19). Para anunciar a Jesús,
Pablo se ha hecho «esclavo de todos». Evangelizar es dar
testimonio en primera persona del amor de Dios, es superar
nuestros egoísmos, es servir inclinándose a lavar los pies de
nuestros hermanos como hizo Jesús.
Tres palabras: Vayan, sin miedo, para servir. Vayan, sin
miedo, para servir. Siguiendo estas tres palabras experimentarán que quien evangeliza es evangelizado, quien
transmite la alegría de la fe, recibe más alegría... No tengan
miedo de ser generosos con Cristo, de dar testimonio del
evangelio. En la primera lectura, cuando Dios envía al
profeta Jeremías, le da el poder para «arrancar y arrasar,
para destruir y demoler, para reedificar y plantar» (Jr 1,10).
También es así para ustedes. Llevar el evangelio es llevar la
fuerza de Dios para arrancar y arrasar el mal y la violencia;
para destruir y demoler las barreras del egoísmo, la intolerancia y el odio; para edificar un mundo nuevo.”

The office of Catholic Charismatic Services will hold it’s 32nd annual Catholic Charismatic Conference, “The
Spirit of the Lord is upon me”- Luke 4:18 at the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Airport Hotel, 1870 Griffin Road, Dania
Beach, Florida 33004. The Conference will begin on Friday, September 20th at 7:00 PM. The cost of the conference will be $40.00 per person for pre-registration - $45.00 at the door. No charge for priests, deacons, religious or teens. The weekend will include inspired teaching , uplifting music, and a Mass celebrated at 11:00 AM
Saturday. A healing service will be conducted at 8:00 PM followed by Benediction. A Mass will be celebrated at
