Bags
Family communication is dependent on sharing experiences with each other and really
listening. Creating a story bag is a good way to hear your child’s story and share your own
story with him. You and your child can create a story within a bag by adding glitter, beads,
letters, numbers and other small objects that tell a story.
What your child will do
Make a story in a bag. Tell the story to others.
What you need
•The book - The Art Lesson by Tomie dePaola
•Colored hair gel
•Glitter
•Small foam letters, numbers and shapes
•Packing tape
•Snack size zipper storage bags
What you do
1. Choose the items to tell your story.
2. Put them in your bag and add gel.
3. Seal your bag and reinforce it with packing tape.
4. Tell your story to a friend or your parent.
Questions to ask
What kind of story would you like to tell? Can you retell your story? Are there other stories
within the bag that you haven’t told yet?
For parents
Family communication flourishes when families take time to listen and talk to each other.
Instead of listening to his school stories while you are cooking or washing the car, stop for a
few minutes, sit down, make eye contact and let your child know that you really care about
what he has to say. Other ways to encourage family communication are: eat together at least
one meal a day, have weekly family meetings, write notes and letters to each other when you
can’t be there and use communication boards to let family members know what is happening
in the family.

Lo que usted hace

3. Cerrar la bolsa y reforzarla con la cinta adhesiva.
4. Contar su historia a un amigo o a sus padres.

Para los padres
La comunicación familiar florece cuándo las familias se toman el tiempo para escuchar y
conversar uno con el otro. En lugar de escuchar sus historias de la escuela mientras que usted
cocina o lava el carro, deténgase por unos minutos, siéntese, haga contacto con sus ojos y
hágale saber a su niño que a usted verdaderamente le interesa sobre lo que tiene que decir.
Otras formas para fomentar la comunicación familiar: siéntese a comer juntos cuando menos
una comida al día, tenga reuniones con su familia semanalmente, escríbanse notas y cartas
cuándo usted no puede estar ahí y use tableros de comunicación para dejarle saber a los
