As with other line-of-sight broadcasts, such as
cellular telephone and FM-radio signals,
temporary loss of signal may occur when
passing obstacles such as expressway overpasses, tunnels, bridges, etc. Audio will be
fully restored when your vehicle clears the
obstacle.
The Sirius satellite system consists of 3
satellites at a high-elevation geosynchronous
orbit. They provide a superior line-of-sight
coverage across the continental US.
The Sirius Satellite Radio constellation and
orbit were selected to provide high elevation,
continuous coverage to the Continental United
States. The elevation is achieved by using a
highly inclined orbit. Continuous coverage is
achieved by utilizing three satellites in a
constellation. The orbit is a highly inclined,
elliptical orbit with a 24-hour period.

The Volvo Sirius Satellite radio system consists
of three main components:
(1) the Volvo satellite antenna, which receives
the Sirius broadcast signal.
(2) the Volvo receiver, which decodes the audio
and data information.
(3) the Volvo radio main unit, which controls
and displays the audio and data information.

Activate the unit
Names of buttons and knobs on the radio are
written as SOURCE, EXIT
•
Enter the radio menu by pressing SOURCE.
•
Press SOURCE to enter the radio menu.
•
Turn the SOURCE knob to navigate in the
menu structure.
•
Turn the SOURCE knob to select SAT
SETTINGS and press SOURCE to select it.
Bullets (•) introduce steps in radio operation.
•
Choose BACK to go up one level in the
menu structure.
•
Turn the SOURCE knob to select SIRIUS ID
and press SOURCE to select it.
Turn on Sirius
•
Select EXIT MENU or press EXIT to exit the
radio menu.
•
Note the Sirius-ID for activation.
•
Call SIRIUS (888 539-7474) and provide
the following information:

Customer name, billing address, make and
model of vehicle, VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
-
The 12-digit Sirius activation ID, also called
ESN (electronic serial number).
Display text is written as BACK, EXIT MENU.
•
Press VOLUME to turn on the radio
•
Turn SOURCE and select SIRIUS SAT1,
SIRIUS SAT2 or SIRIUS SAT3 (on S80 SAT
only ).

This preview channel is free of charge and is
normally available before the initial Sirius
activation process. If this is not the first time
the unit has been activated, the preview
channel may not be available. However, once
the unit is reactivated by Sirius, all channels
will become available.
PRESETS
Store a station
•
Tune to the station you that you would like
to store.
•
Press and hold one of the PRESET buttons
1-6 for 3 seconds. On S80 radios, press
PRESET.
•
Choose a number by turning the knob.
Press again to store the station
The text STATION STORED is displayed and the
selected channel position is displayed.
Select a stored channel
•
Press the desired preset button to select the
stored channel. On S80, turn the PRESET
knob.
You can choose among the preset groups
SIRIUS SAT1, SIRIUS SAT2 and SIRIUS SAT3.
On S80, SAT only.
SAT SETTINGS
CATEGORY TUNING
In the SAT SETTINGS menu, five additional
submenus allow additional control of the Sirius
broadcast information.
This function is used to select the various
categories of music and entertainment provided
by Sirius.
Do the following to enter the SAT SETTINGS
main menu:

PARENTAL LOCK

Changing code
Sirius broadcasts are offer a wide range of
music and entertainment for all ages and
interests. If desired, access to specific channels
can be restricted (locked). A locked channel will
not provide audio, song titles, or artist
information. All channels are unlocked at initial
delivery.
All channels can be unlocked at the same time,
or they can unlocked individually. The
procedure is as follows:
The code consists of the digits 1-6 and is
entered either by using the preset buttons or
by turning the SOURCE knob. When using the
SOURCE knob to enter the code, press
SOURCE after selecting each code digit.
Locking a channel
•
Select the station that you would like to
lock.
•
Press SOURCE to enter the radio menu.
•
Turn the SOURCE knob to select SAT
SETTINGS and press SOURCE to select it.
•
Turn the SOURCE knob to select PARENTAL LOCK and press the SOURCE knob to
select it.
•
Select LOCK CHANNEL and press SOURCE
to select it.
•
Press EXIT
The channel is now locked and the text
LOCKED and the channel preset position are
displayed.

Select PARENTAL LOCK and press
SOURCE.

Select UNLOCK CHANNEL and press
SOURCE to unlock the currently tuned
channel.

Select CHANGE CODE and press SOURCE.
•
OLD CODE is displayed. Enter the code and
press SOURCE.

Select UNLOCK ALL and press SOURCE to
unlock all channels at once.
•
NEW CODE is displayed. Enter the code and
press SOURCE.
•
ENTER CODE. Enter the code (the default
code on delivery is 1111) and press
SOURCE.
•
CONFIRM CODE is displayed. Press
SOURCE to confirm.
•
CODE STORED! is displayed.
If an incorrect code is entered, the text WRONG
CODE! is displayed. If you have forgotten the
password, please contact your Volvo retailer
for assistance.
SKIP CHANNEL
SIRIUS ID
MESSAGES
This function is used to remove a channel from
the list of available channels.
The Sirius ID is required to activate or
deactivate your service, or to make changes in
your subscription. To display the Sirius ID:
While listening to Sirius Satellite Radio,
information will occasionally be displayed to
inform you of service updates and Sirius
broadcast changes. The following is a description of the messages that may be displayed.
Select SKIP CHANNEL and press SOURCE.
•
Press SOURCE to enter the radio menu.
Select SKIP CURRENT and press SOURCE.
•
Turn the SOURCE knob and select SAT
SETTINGS. Press SOURCE.
•
Turn the SOURCE knob and select SIRIUS
ID. Press SOURCE.
* SUBSCRIP. CHANGE: This message will be
displayed when contacting the Sirius Call
Center to activate/deactivate service or
changing subscription plans.
•
Write down your Sirius-ID.
Skip current
•

CH SKIPPED is displayed.
Unskip all

Select SKIP CHANNEL and press SOURCE.
•
Select UNSKIP ALL and press SOURCE.
CH UNSKIPPED is displayed.
* UPDATING CHANNELS: This message will
be displayed when the Sirius broadcast
service is being updated. Typically, new
features or channels are added during this
period. To find out if any new additions are
available, please visit the Sirius website at
www.sirius.com.
* INVALID CHANNEL: This message will
appear if the user is trying to tune in a
channel that does not exist. Simply tune to
another valid channel.
* ACQUIRING SIGNAL: This message will be
displayed when the antenna has no direct
clear path to the orbiting Sirius satellites.
Obstacles such as expressway overpasses,
tunnels, bridges, etc., may block the
satellite transmission. This is normal and
full audio and data reception will be
restored once the vehicle clears the obstacle
and the satellite antenna has a direct clear
path to the satellite.

Al igual que ocurre con otras transmisiones de
línea de visión, como las señales de telefonía
móvil y de radio FM, puede producirse una
pérdida temporal de señal al atravesar obstáculos, como pasos elevados de autopista, túneles,
puentes, etc. La recepción de audio se

vehículo dicho obstáculo.
El sistema de satélite Sirius está compuesto por
3 satélites que circulan en una órbita geosincrónica de gran altura, ofreciendo una excelente
cobertura de línea de visión en toda la zona
continental de Estados Unidos.
Se seleccionó la constelación y órbita del
sistema de radio por satélite Sirius a fin de
obtener una cobertura continua de gran
elevación sobre EE.UU. continental. La
elevación se consigue recurriendo a una órbita
de gran inclinación. La cobertura continua se
logra empleando tres satélites en constelación.
La órbita usada es de alta inclinación, elíptica y
con un período orbital de 24 horas.

Cambio de código
Las emisiones de Sirius brindan una amplia
oferta de música y entretenimiento para todas
las edades y gustos. Si lo se desea, el cliente de
Volvo puede bloquear la audición de canales
específicos. Los canales bloqueados no
proporcionarán sonido, ni el título de la canción
o información sobre el artista. En el momento
de la entrega, todos los canales están desbloqueados.
El cliente de Volvo puede desbloquear todos los
canales al mismo tiempo o uno a uno. El
procedimiento es el siguiente:
El código consta de los dígitos 1-6 y se indica
con los botones de presintonías o bien girando
la perilla SOURCE. Si desea usar la perilla
SOURCE para introducir el código, pulse ésta
SOURCE una vez seleccionado cada uno de los
dígitos del código.
Bloqueo de un canal

Seleccione la estación que quiere bloquear.
•
Pulse SOURCE para acceder al menú de
radio.
•
Gire la perilla SOURCE para seleccionar
SAT SETTINGS y pulse SOURCE para

Escoja LOCK CHANNEL y pulse SOURCE

Pulse EXIT
El canal queda ahora bloqueado y aparecerá el
texto LOCKED junto a la posición de presintonía del canal.

Seleccione UNLOCK CHANNEL y pulse

Esta función se emplea para eliminar un canal
de entre los canales disponibles.
Se precisa el identificador de Sirius para activar
o desactivar su servicio, así como para
modificar su suscripción. Muestre el identificador de Sirius como sigue:
Durante el empleo del servicio de radio por
satélite Sirius, aparecerá de vez en cuando
información sobre las actualizaciones de los
servicios y los cambios en las emisiones de
Sirius. A continuación se describen los mensajes
que pueden visualizarse:

Vaya a SKIP CHANNEL y pulse SOURCE.
•
Seleccione SKIP CURRENT y pulse

•
Pulse SOURCE para acceder al menú de
radio.

* SUBSCRIP. CHANGE: Este mensaje
aparecerá al contactar con el Sirius Call

muestra durante la mejora del servicio en las
emisiones de Sirius. En este período suelen
añadirse nuevas prestaciones o canales. Para

* INVALID CHANNEL: Este mensaje aparece si
el usuario trata de sintonizar un canal
inexistente. Basta con que sintonice otro
canal que sea válido.
* ACQUIRING SIGNAL: Este mensaje se
muestra cuando la antena carece de una ruta
directa clara a los satélites Sirius en órbita.
Es posible que haya obstáculos, tales como
pasos elevados de autopista, túneles,
puentes, etc., que bloquean la transmisión
del satélite. Se trata de una respuesta
normal. El sonido y los datos serán
restaurados totalmente una vez que se haya
superado el obstáculo y la antena recupere
una ruta directa clara hasta los satélites.
