My dear parishioners,
One of the reasons I wanted to go to
Guadalupe for my retreat this year was due to the
new abortion clinic that has just opened in our
neighborhood. I felt as though Our Lady of
Guadalupe had a message for me and wish to
communicate it to me. On the Tuesday of our
retreat, Fr. Rodriguez and I went to the Chapel of
Cerrito, which is a fun climb to reach. It is a
beautiful chapel built on the site of the original
apparition to St. Juan Diego. On the walls of the
chapel are six beautiful murals depicting the
apparitions. Towards the front, on the left-hand
side there is a striking crucifixion scene with statues
that drew me in. On the right-hand side, we
encountered a magnificent painting by Jorge
Sanchez. Using the image of Our Lady of
Guadalupe as his model, he painted her holding
three babies in her arms, with her eyes raised up.
Her eyes were red with sadness and there are tears
pouring down the side of her face. Her mouth is
slightly open, as though she about to say something.
The beauty of the painting and its ability to stop us
in our tracks stunned both Fr. Rodriguez and me. As
we were admiring the painting and praying before
it, a lady came up to us. She asked where we were
from and if we worked for pro-life. I mentioned
about the Prayer Vigil for Life we just had on
March 24. She then asked us if we knew Monsignor
Reilly. We were both a bit shocked that a Mexican
lady living in Mexico City had heard of him.
Monsignor Reilly is the priest that celebrated the
Mass and led the Prayer Vigil on March 24. We
discussed a bit of the situation in Mexico in regards
to abortion. She then mentioned that they were
about to pray the Rosary for Life and have Mass at
12 noon for respect life. At that moment I knew that
Our Lady of Guadalupe had let me know I was right
to come. Next week I will share the ideas I received
while praying in front of this painting.
God bless,
Fr. O’Connor
Seminarian Peter Penton
Today is Peter Penton’s last day with us. Peter
arrived in September to begin his pastoral year.
This is the last year the seminary program is
having a pastoral year as part of its program.
The pastoral year is meant to give a seminarian
a taste of the priestly life. Peter was very
involved in teaching this year. He taught one
of the confirmation classes on Wednesday,
another CCD class on Saturdays and taught 4th
grade religion on Tuesdays at Immaculate
Conception School. He served Mass faithfully
everyday and on Sundays. We wish Peter the
best as he continues his studies for the
priesthood and God-willing will be ordained a
priest in 2014. Please pray for him and his
vocation.
Seminarian Evans Julce
Many of you will remember Evans who also
just completed his pastoral year at St. Clare’s in
Rosedale. Evans will be returning to our
parish to work for the summer. Evans main
task this summer is to coordinate with the
Catholic Churches in the area as well as our
Protestant brethren to have a 40-day prayer
vigil in front of the abortion clinic. He will be
speaking soon to ask for your support.
Catholic Charities Alzheimer’s Adult Day
Program
You can bring your love one to our program
with confidence while you take care of
personal business, to work, or just want to be
alone for a few hours to regroup. We are open
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We are

Quote of the Week…
“The more we indulge ourselves in soft living and
pamper our bodies, the more rebellious they will
become against the spirit.”
St. Rita of Cascia
verano. Para las jovencitas tendrán softbol,
futbol, basquetbol y volibol; para los jovencitos
tendrán base bol, futbol y basquetbol. Para más
información, por favor llamar al (718) 898-3800
extensión 18. La escuela está localizada en 7106 Thirty-First Ave. East Elmhurst, NY 11370.
