The abduction of Persephone
It happened in Enna, a day that Persephone was collecting
flowers accompanied Artemis, nymphs and our Lady of Timeria,
Athena, and Hades appeared from a hole in the fields and
kidnapped Persephone. The torn screaming from her mother,
Demeter, arrived in the ears of all the gods, who met fearful of
the consequences of the Rapture, since Demeter announced
death of seed germination and barren fields while his daughter
will not return. It was Zeus who sent Hermes to the underworld
with such a mission.
Was the condition for tradition that nobody could leave the
Underworld if had tasted the products that he emerging. When
Persephone was preparing to return to his mother, Ascalaphus
broke before it and Hades shouting that the daughter Demeter
had swallowed a slice of pomegranate. As a result, could not
leave her husband and should continue to reign in the
Underworld. Persephone punished Ascalaphus to rinse it with
water from the Flegetonte.
Demeter did not yield and the barren one continued without
giving truce to the agricultures and the plants. The Big God Zeus
intervened again, and with wisdom it determined that Perséfone
would reign in the Hades a third of the year, in winter, and
would turn with its mother the rest of the time.
During the trip to rescue of Persephone, Demeter revealed to the
faithful the Eleusinian mysteries.

Sucedió en Enna, un día que Perséfone recogía flores
acompañada Artemisa, de ninfas y de Nuestra Señora de
Timeria, Atenea, y Hades apareció de un hueco en los campos
y raptó a Perséfone. Los gritos desgarrados de su madre,
Deméter, llegaron a oídos de todos los Dioses, quienes se
reunieron temerosos de las consecuencias del rapto, ya que
Deméter anunció campos yermos y muerte de la germinación de
semillas mientras su hija no regresara. Fue Zeus quien envió a
Hermes al Inframundo con tal misión.
Era condición por la tradición que nadie podía abandonar el
Inframundo si había saboreado los productos que en él
emergían. Cuando Perséfone se disponía a volver con su madre,
Ascálafo irrumpió ante ella y Hades gritando que la hija de
Deméter había ingerido un gajo de granada. A consecuencia de
ello, no podía abandonar a su marido y debía seguir reinando
en el Inframundo. Perséfone castigó a Ascáfalo al rociarlo con el
agua del Flegetonte.
Deméter no cedió y el yermo seguía sin dar tregua a los
agricultures y las plantas. El Gran Dios Zeus intervino de nuevo,
y con sapiencia determinó que Perséfone reinaría en el Hades
un tercio del año, en invierno, y volvería con su madre el resto
del tiempo.
Durante el viaje de rescate de Perséfone, Deméter reveló a los
fieles los misterios eleusinos.
