endorse the Declaration of the international leaders
Jimmy Carter, Tony Blair and Senator George Mitchell have sent in separate statements
their endorsement of the Declaration made by world leaders last October 17th in the
context of the International Conference to promote a resolution of the conflict in the
Basque Country.
STATEMENT FROM THE CARTER CENTER ON RECONCILIATION EFFORTS
IN THE BASQUE REGION
Atlanta - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today endorsed the declaration of former world
leaders at a conference in Spain’s Basque region, who called for a dialogue between the ETA,
Spain, and France, to end the long-standing conflict in the region.
“This effort deserves the support of the international community,” said President Carter.

STATEMENT BY TONY BLAIR:
A spokesman of The Office of Tony Blair said: "Tony Blair strongly supports the declaration issued by
leaders in San Sebastian calling on ETA definitively to end the armed struggle. He believes that there is a window
of opportunity in which the last armed conflict in Europe can be brought to an end and he urges all political leaders
to seize that opportunity."

"I fully support the Declaration issued by international leaders in San Sebastian yesterday. It is important that all
possible steps are taken to bring about the end of the last armed confrontation in Europe. I join the call for ETA
to declare publicly that it is ending all armed activity and seeks talks with the governments of Spain and France on
the consequences of conflict. I believe there is an opportunity for lasting peace and that opportunity should be seized
by all concerned."

Espainiako euskal erregioan egin zuten adierazpenarekin. ETAren, Espainiaren eta Frantziaren
artean elkarrizketa gauzatzeko eta erregioak aspaldidanik pairatzen duen gatazkari amaiera

Jimmy Carter, Tony Blair y el Senador George Mitchell han hecho llegar sendos
comunicados en los que muestran su apoyo a la Declaración presentada por los líderes
internacionales el pasado 17 de octubre dentro del marco de la Conferencia Internacional
para promover la resolución del conflicto en el País Vasco.
DECLARACIÓN DEL CENTRO CARTER EN ESFUERZOS DE
RECONCILIACIÓN EN EL PAÍS VASCO
Atlanta - El ex presidente de EE.UU. Jimmy Carter se ha adherido hoy a la declaración que
antiguos líderes mundiales hicieron en una conferencia en la región vasca de España, haciendo
un llamamiento al diálogo entre ETA, España y Francia para poner fin al conflicto que la región
padece desde hace mucho tiempo.
"Este esfuerzo merece el apoyo de la comunidad internacional", ha afirmado el presidente Carter.

formulada por los líderes en San Sebastián que pide a ETA que ponga fin a la lucha armada de forma definitiva.
Cree que hay una ventana de oportunidad en la que el último conflicto armado de Europa puede ser llevado a su
fin e insta a todos los líderes políticos para aprovechar esa oportunidad. "

"Apoyo plenamente la declaración emitida por los líderes internacionales ayer en San Sebastián. Es importante
que se tomen todas las medidas posibles para que se produzca el fin del último enfrentamiento armado en
Europa. Me uno a la petición dirigida a ETA para que declare públicamente el fin de toda actividad armada y
para que busque conversaciones con los gobiernos de España y Francia para abordar las consecuencias del
conflicto. Creo que hay una oportunidad para una paz duradera y todos los interesados deberían de aprovechar esta
oportunidad".
