Reading Response Journal: You will complete a journal entry
after each chapter of the book. Each entry must have the following
elements: date, title, chapter and complete sentences with
supporting details. Check in the back of this paper for ideas on what
to write about and to respond. Have fun reading and responding!!
Diorama Project: You will create a diorama on one scene from
your summer book. The diorama should include images and models
about the setting, characters, and event. On the back of the diorama
you should have a scene analysis index card which contains a clear
and accurate explanation of how the items in the diorama are
related to the scene you chose. Shoeboxes can be used to create
your diorama.
Alternate Ending: Think about the setting, characters, and
plot/problem of your book. Then use these elements to create an
alternate ending to the story. Your new ending should be connected
to the story’s original elements (setting, characters, plot/problem)
but be different than the ending the author wrote. There is no
required length to the piece; however it must contain all the
elements.
Comic Strip Project: Using your summer book, you will create a
comic strip. The comic strip should contain all the important
events/scenes from the book in the correct order, characters,
illustrations for each event/scene, and captions about each
event/scene.
Venn Diagram: From your summer book choose one character to
compare yourself to. You need to find at least 5 things that you
have in common with that character and at least 5 things that are
different about you and the character.

respuesta en tu diario después de cada capítulo que hayas leído del

capítulo y oraciones completas con los detalles que describan lo que

problema) debe ser diferente al final que el autor escribió. Se requiere
un mínimo de una página para este proyecto, sin embargo, debe
contener todos los elementos ya mencionados.
Proyecto Cómic: Crea una historieta usando tu libro de verano. La
historieta debe contener todos los eventos / escenas importantes del
libro en el orden correcto, personajes, ilustraciones de cada evento /

Dear Parents,
Summer can be a season full of good times and fun memories, but did you know
that kids might experience learning losses when they don’t read during the summer?
There is actually a name for it. It’s called “the summer slide.” Studies show that
children who read over the summer achieve greater scores on reading assignments
in the fall than those who don’t read books at all. For this cause, we are providing
our students with a chapter book to read over the summer. Students are required to
choose ONE of five projects and turn it in the first day of school. This assignment
will count as student’s first homework assignment for the 2013-2014 school year.
One of Braeburn’s goals is to ensure that students read regularly and consistently
throughout the summer months. We will provide a Summer Reading Log to keep
track of what, how often and how long your child reads. Please assist in motoring
your child reading activities by signing the log. Students are encouraged to read a
minimum of 30 minutes per day, everyday. Please make sure your child returns this
completed log to his/her reading teacher with the corresponding summer reading
project.

divertidos, pero ¿sabía usted que los niños pueden experimentar pérdidas de
aprendizaje cuando no leen durante el verano? A esto se le conoce como "el
tobogán de verano." Los estudios han demostrado que los niños que leen durante el
verano lograr obtener mejores calificaciones en lectura durante el primer semestre
escolar que aquellos que no leen libros en absoluto. Por este motivo, estamos
proporcionando a nuestros estudiantes con un libro para leer durante el verano. Los
estudiantes tendrán que elegir uno de los cinco proyectos sugeridos y deberán
entregarlo el primer día de escuela. Esta asignación se considerará como la primera
tarea de el año escolar 2013-2014. Uno de los objetivos en Braeburn es asegurarse
que los estudiantes lean regularmente y constantemente a lo largo del verano. Le
proporcionaremos un registro de lectura de verano en el cual usted puede asistir a su
hijo/a con un seguimiento de qué esta leyendo, con qué frecuencia y por cuánto
tiempo esta leyendo en casa. Por favor, ayude a monitorear las actividades de lectura
de su hijo/a al firmar este registro diariamente. Se espera que los estudiantes lean un
