Most people would respond by saying our children and family. Perhaps the advise to sell everything we own and give the proceeds to the poor may neither be feasible or challenging for us. Many of us have little financial resources and few possessions but we value our family and friendships much more Just like the young man, we also seek to find the best path to reach God. But today’s second reading says that the word is sharp and challenging. How can the Word challenge us? Perhaps we may not have many possessions, but we cling to our opinions, to judging other people, to the harsh attitudes toward others whom we don’t like or who have hurt us in some way. Perhaps the treasure we must sell is our own desire to control and boss others around. It could be the inability or lack of will to forgive another person or the machismo attitude that considers a woman is less than a man. Each one of us must look within ourselves to see if these treasures that we hang on to, which when examined, are not valuable and may even hurt us. It could be feelings of negativity, of criticizing everything around us, or on the together extreme, the acceptance of injustices in our surroundings without being concerned enough to fight against them. Many times there are hidden treasures we are not even aware of. We want to reach God but we do not wish to abandon the stances we strongly take sometimes without even noticing. God tells us to go and sell everything and put it into the service of others. It presumes an enormous generosity that goes beyond money. Jesus also invites us to do it with a vision of love toward others. There is another reading from this gospel that also challenges us. There are times we complain about a shortage of priests and ministers who speak our language and understand us, but we resist the thoughts that perhaps in our family or even within ourselves there could be a calling to the priesthood. We pray “Lord, send priests” - but please call them from another family...may be a feeling we harbor subconsciously. But when God calls, when he looks at us with love, it can be irresistible. After all, the Word is like a sword and nothing can be hidden from it. For Reflection At what times did you try to avoid following the call of God? Did you find it ultimately irresistible? What joys and satisfactions did you feel when you decided to respond? Note from the Editor I am asking for you to look ahead on your calendar of events. If you will be needing your group’s activity included in the bulletin from now and November 8, then PLEASE submit your article ASAP in writing to Donna in the Parish Office. Thank You. Office Update To keep secure that your group is using the Church or Parish Offices, it is very important that you call Donna 815-6250640 and have your meeting or choir practice in our schedule, even if it is an on -going practice or meeting. “Let’s Feed Our Children” ‘Thank You’ A very special “Thank You” to Fr.
