Dear Parents and Guardians,
Starting the week of March 21 , students across the district will begin to participate in the annual PARCC
Spring assessment administration. Students in grades 3-8 will spend time applying their knowledge and
demonstrating skills learned throughout this school year, while interacting with assessment items on the
PARCC exams in the content areas of math and English language arts. High School students who are
enrolled in Algebra 1 or English Language Arts level 1 courses will also participate, taking exams that
assess content taught in those courses.
The PARCC exams are intended to be rigorous. The tasks that students will be required to complete on the
exams call for:
• critical thinking,
• problem-solving,
• the ability to synthesize information from various sources, and
• provide evidence and reasoning when making an argument or solving a math equation.
The exams will again be computer-based. Individual schools will set their testing windows and post them
on their websites and building marquees.
Please continue to encourage your children to do their best on the exams just as they have done with their
daily schoolwork. Our goal as a district is to ensure that our students are college and career ready by the
time they graduate from high school. While the PARCC exams represent only one measure of student
progress, it is nonetheless an important measure of student progress towards this goal.

Estimados Padres y Tutores,
Comenzando Ia semana del 21 de marzo, estudiantes a traves del distrito empezaran a participar en Ia
administracion anual de Ia evaluacion PARCC de Ia primavera. Los estudiantes en los grades 3°-8° pasanin
tiempo aplicando su conocimiento y demostrando las habilidades que han aprendido durante este afio escolar,
mientras interactuan con los articulos de evaluacion en los examenes PARCC en las areas de contenido de
matematicas y artes lingiifsticas del ingles. Los estudiantes de secundaria que esten inscritos en los cursos,
Algebra 1 o Artes Lingiifsticas del Ingles Nivel 1, tam bien participaran, tomando los examenes que evaluan el
contenido que se ensefia en esos cursos.
Los examenes PARCC son rigurosos. Las tareas que los estudiantes estaran obligados a completar en los
examenes requieren:
• pensamiento crftico,
• Ia resolucion de problemas,
• Ia habilidad de sintetizar Ia informacion de varias fuentes, y
• proporcionar evidencia y razonamiento al hacer un argumento o al resolver una ecuacion matematica.
Los examenes seran de nuevo a traves de Ia computadora. Cada escuela establecera sus horarios para tomar
estas evaluaciones y los publicaran en sus sitios web y sus marquesinas.
Por favor sigan alentando a sus hijos a hacer lo mejor posible en los examenes al igual que lo hacen con sus
trabajos escolares diariamente. Nuestro objetivo como distrito es asegurar que nuestros estudiantes esten listos
para Ia universidad y para una carrera profesional al memento de graduarse de Ia escuela secundaria. Aunque
los examenes PARCC solo representen una medida del progreso estudiantil, son una medida importante del
progreso estudiantil hacia este objetivo.
