Workshop Outcomes Statement
On 20 - 22 July 2016 representatives of 11 countries1, along with various NGOs2 and IGOs3
came together in Nassau, Bahamas to participate in the Caribbean Regional Wildlife
Enforcement Workshop.
The participants agreed on the need for enhanced cooperation, both nationally and
regionally, to combat the trafficking of terrestrial, freshwater and marine species.
Recognising that wildlife trafficking is a security, economic and environmental threat to the
sustainable development of the region, with increasing influence of transnational organized
crime, the participants recommend the creation of a Caribbean Wildlife Enforcement
Network (“CaribWEN”).
The establishment of the CaribWEN would facilitate increased information sharing, provide
a platform for capacity building, lead to greater enforcement actions and raise awareness.
A CaribWEN would provide an opportunity for creative sustainable financing, to alleviate
resource constraints.

El 20 - 22 de julio de 2016 representantes de 11 países, junto con diversas organizaciones no
gubernamentales y organizaciones intergubernamentales, se reunieron en Nassau, Bahamas
para participar en el Caribbean Wildlife Enforcement Workshop.
Los participantes coincidieron en la necesidad de una mayor cooperación, tanto a nivel
nacional como regional, para combatir el tráfico de especies terrestres, de agua dulce y
marinas.
Reconociendo que el tráfico de vida silvestre presenta amenazas a la seguridad, economía y
ambiente para el desarrollo sostenible de la región, con el aumento de la influencia de la
delincuencia organizada transnacional, los participantes recomiendan la creación de una
Red de Control de la fauna del Caribe (CaribWEN ).
El establecimiento de CaribWEN facilitaría un mayor intercambio de información,
proporcionar una plataforma para la creación de capacidad, dar lugar a mayores acciones de
aplicación y aumentar la conciencia.
Asimismo, un CaribWEN proporcionaría una oportunidad para que la financiación sostenible
creativo, para aliviar la escasez de recursos.
