My dear parishioners,
Here we are, it is Holy Week! Lent has passed so quickly.
Our parish had two wonderful missions. I am grateful to all
those who attended. With the collections we had during the
missions, we collected enough money to cover the travel
expenses of both teams. The parish only had to cover the
stipend for both of the teams. As another spiritual exercise,
I would like to recommend something for most families,
either this week or after Easter. Go see the movie Young
Messiah.
This wonderful film is based on a work of fiction,
Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice. The film
focuses on one year of the life of the child Jesus, when he
was seven years old. It follows the Holy Family’s return
from Egypt to Nazareth. Although there is no mention of
this story in the Gospel, the screenwriters, using Anne
Rice’s book, imagine what might have been like. Young
Messiah shows Jesus starting to ask questions, wanting to
know more about his birth and how he is able to do certain
things. The movie is very faithful to the traditional understanding of Jesus, acknowledging his divinity, the Virgin
Birth and that he is the only child of Mary. Mary and
Joseph want to protect Jesus and not burden him with who
he is. They want him to grow older before more is told to
him. The child Jesus however does not want to wait and
wants the truth to be revealed to him. One of my favorite
scenes in the movie is when Mary and Joseph are having a
conversation, both feel inadequate to the task of raising
God’s Son, but they offer encouragement to one another. It
was a beautiful image of marriage.
Joseph and Mary are portrayed wonderfully. Joseph
is a strong man, willing to do what is right to protect his
family. He is also willing to stand up for another innocent.
Mary is seen as a woman of prayer who trusts in God. She
is totally devoted to her son and probably the best scene in
the whole movie is when explains to Jesus the circumstances of his birth. I must admit that at times I was moved
to tears and other times I wanted to cheer. I believe this to
be one of the best and most Catholic movies since Mel
Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ.
I also encourage you to see it so we can show
Hollywood that we want more of these kinds of movies. If
we support a film like Young Messiah, they might make
more. Even though it is a work of fiction, the Holy Family
is reverently portrayed and the movie can move us to
prayer. You will not be disappointed.

¡Ya llego aquí, la Semana Santa! La Cuaresma ha
pasado tan rápido. Nuestra parroquia tuvo dos misiones
maravillosas. Estoy agradecido con todos aquellos que asistieron. Con las colectas que tuvimos en las misiones, colectamos suficiente dinero cubrir los gastos de viaje para ambos equipos. La parroquia solo tuvo que cubrir el estipendio
para ambos equipos. Como otro ejercicio espiritual, me
gustaría recomendarle algo para muchas familias, sea para
esta semana o después de Pascua. Vayan a ver la película
Young Messiah.
Esta maravillosa película está basada en una obra
ficción Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt por Anne Rice. La
película se enfoca en un año de la vida de Jesús de niño,
cuando tenía siete años de edad. Sigue el regreso da la
Sagrada Familia de Egipto a Nazaret. Aunque no se menciona esta historia en el Evangelio, los guionistas, usaran el
libro de Anne Rice, imaginando lo que habría sido. Young
Messiah demuestra cuando Jesús comienza a hacer preguntas, queriendo saber más sobre su nacimiento y como él es
capaz de hacer ciertas cosas. La película es muy fiel al
conocimiento tradicional de Jesús, reconociendo su divinidad, el Nacimiento Puro y que él es el único hijo de María.
María y José quieren proteger a Jesús y no quieren agobiarlo por quien es. Quieren que crezca antes de que le cuenten
más. Sin embargo el niño Jesús no quiere esperar y quiere
que le revelen la verdad. Una de mis escenas favoritas de la
película es cuando María y José tienen una conversación,
ambos se sienten inadecuados con el trabajo de criar al Hijo
de Dios, pero ellos se ofrecen apoyo uno al otro. Es una
hermosa imagen de matrimonio.
José y María son representados maravillosamente.
José es un hombre fuerte, dispuesto a hacer lo correcto para
proteger a su familia. También está dispuesto a pararse por
un inocente. María se ve como una mujer de oración que
confía en Dios. Ella es totalmente devota a su hijo y probablemente la mejor escena de toda la película es cuando ella
le explica a Jesús las circunstancias de su nacimiento. Debo
admitir que a veces me conmoví en lágrimas y en otras
veces quería aclamar. Yo creo que esta es una de las
películas más Católicas y una de las mejores desde la
película La Pasión de Cristo de Mel Gibson.
También les animo a verla para demostrarle a
Hollywood que queremos más de este tipo de películas. Si
apoyamos las películas como Young Messiah, podrían
hacer más. Aunque es una obra ficción, la Sagrada Familia
es representada con reverencia y la película nos conmueve
en oración. No se desilusionaran.

$10 Million Will Go Towards Evangelizing Our Youth
The campaign focuses on empowering today’s youth to live as disciples of Jesus Christ by participating in the life, mission and work of the Church.
The Generations of Faith Campaign will:
Provide on-site support to parishes through funding salaries of youth
ministers, and grants for ongoing resources and professional
development.
With an additional investment of $10 million over the next five years,
the program can expand to parishes across the Diocese by
2020.

Each and every one of us belongs to the King. We each
are cherished members of God’s royal family. We have
been given a purpose far greater than we can ever
comprehend and were created to be glorious, beautiful
and valuable because we are Daughters of the King.
Beginning March 31st we invite each young lady, 13yrs
old and older to come and hear about True Love and to
learn more about what it means to be a
Daughter of The King.
We will meet from 6pm to 8pm every Thursday
for 10 weeks.

recursos en desarrollo y desempeño profesional.

años, el programa puede expandirse a parroquias de la Diócesis
para el 2020.
