Armando Vela, a young Chicano from the valley with just 1 week at NASSCO, was coldelood edly shot in the back, Sat. Aug. 18, by the National City police. He's now lying in a
hospital paralysed from the. waist down with pieces of an exploding bullet still in his back.
Witnesses saw what happened- Vela was shot while running away from a fight, but police are
trying to cover :up this near murder o They reported lies that he Was shot in the chest, while
assulting an officer. with a deadly weapon.
This is the i3th shootil;g in San Diego this year. In 1975,. Tato Rivera- 1979, Newman
Osebar and Sam Brewn WaS sheet, because of supposed irrational behavior And being dangerous to
innocent bystande:es and pblice. In March of this year, Michael Pyle, like Vela, was also
shot in the back while surposely "attempting to shoot an.officer". Another lie and cover-up!

or another. They arc talking about the main drag on Highland Ave. In this area legitimate
car clubs, lowriders and families come to exchange information about different ways of fixing
up their cars, hang out, get into "car jumping" contests, etc. Groups of people from other
areas of San Diego.come to mix with the local crowd. To the police, - if there are more than
3 people together, that constitutes a gang and therefore open to harassment.

oppresion under this syatem of capitalism. National oppression is the systematic and
brutal denial of aemocratic rights to persons of minority nationalities, This oppression
concretely creates the conditions u!eere minorities are forced to accept the lowest paying
jobs, attend the telerest schools, have higher unemployment rates, have the highest percentage of person in prison, a greater infant mortality and death rate, and live in the
