Why are we or am I a Catholic? Why am I or are we following the way of Jesus
Christ?
In each of our lives, as individuals and as community, we will need to undergo
conversion.
We will need to have these moments in which we go “A HA!” moments of clarity,
realization about the faith.
These moments are necessary for us to have the deeper faith, for that commitment to
follow. Because in each of our lives, as individuals and as community, we will be
tested, our faith will be rocked.
Look at what Jesus asked his disciples...first what do others say, but then what do
“YOU” say...meaning what is their understanding.
Now obviously they see something in Jesus that is different. Jesus affirms them of
this. But so that they don’t follow the wrong path in their understanding, he warns them
what will happen.
That this Christ, this anointed one, will suffer first before any glory, and the implication
is that they, and us too, will suffer before any glory.
And we know that the Disciples had their own A HA! moment at the resurrection. And
many more A HA moments after that, with the Pentecost, the Ascension and through
their growth.
Many of us are “cultural” Catholics or “Cradle” catholics. Meaning we are born into
Catholic families and our parents then had us baptized into the church; we were
educated in the Catholic faith, went to church on Sundays and Holy Days. We did
what we were supposed to do.
This is merely the foundation. Somewhere, sometime, this all has to sink in and we
need to have that awakening to the elegance, the beauty, to the power of what
following Jesus Christ means.
Now for some, it comes during a time of great struggle, when we are at the lowest

point of our lives. We have been shattered, and when all the falseness of this world
has finally been shown for what it is worth, nada. Then we begin to see.
Others, it comes through great spiritual discipline; through intensity of prayer and
reading; through that suppression of ego and willingness to surrender.
For some, it comes through the example of others; an act of kindness and
compassion; an act of mercy and love.
And in rare circumstances, sometimes, as in St. Paul, Jesus knocks us down onto our
keesters, to get our attention.
And conversion can happen through a combination of all the above and even other
ways.
And when it does happen, it will change everything. There will be clarity, there will be a
new energy, there will be new motivation. Life will be different, and it is something
wonderful to behold and witness.
Be open to this process...desire it! It is never, ever too late nor too early to begin.

¿Porque somos o soy catòlico? ¿Porque soy yo o somos nosotros siguiendo el
camino de Jesucristo?
En cada de nuestras vidas, como individuos y como una comunidad, necesitamos a
tener una conversión.
Vamos a necesitar esos momentos en cual decimos "Por supuesto!" momentos de
claridad, una realización de la fe.
Estos momentos son necesario para nosotros a tener una fe más profundo; una fe
para dar a nuestros niños, una fe más profundo para experimentar la salvación de
Dios y a vivir como humanos verdaderos.
Miren a lo que Jesús preguntó de los discìpulos...primeramente ¿Que dice la gente?
y luego, ¿ Que dicen a ustedes?
Claro, los discípulos vean algo diferente en Jesús, porque ellos tienen una relación.
Y Jesús les afirmó a ellos, y para prevenirlo a siguiendo el camino equivocado, él les
advierte de lo que va a pasar.
Que este Cristo, el Ungido, va a sufrir antes la gloria, y la implicación es que ellos, y
nosotros, van a sufrir antes cualquier gloria.
Y sabemos que los Discípulos tuvieron su momento propio de conversión en la
resurrección, y después en el Pentecostés y la Ascención y por su desarrollo.
Muchos de nosotros somos Católicos por la cultura o por la cuna. Es decir que
somos nacidos a una familia católica y fuimos bautizados como los bebés; fuimos
educados en la fe, y fuimos a la misa en los Domingos y los días de precepto.
Hicimos lo que era necesario.
Pero, este no es suficiente. No somos llamados a ser Católicos por la cultura.
Necesitamos ser dueños de la fe. Cada de nosotros necesitamos a despertar al
poder, la belleza, la elegancia, la liberación en siguiendo el camino de Jesús, en
viviendo la fe católica.
Y por algunos, este despertar viene en los tiempos de lucha, de reto, cuando

estamos en un punto bajo en la vida. Cuando hemos estado roto, cuando la falsedad
de la vida ha sido demostrado.
Y por los otros, lo viene por mucho disciplina espiritual; por la intensidad de oración,
lecturas, y obras buenas; por la supresion del ego y la voluntad a entregarse.
Y po algunos, lo vieno por el ejemplo de los otros: un obra de amabilidad y
compasión; un obra de misericordia y el amor.
y a veces raro, como con San Pablo, Jesús nos derriba para hablar con nosotros.
Y la conversión viene por una combinación de todos y otros maneras.
Y cuando lo pasa, todo será cambiado. Habrá la claridad; habrá nueva energia; habrá
nueva motivación.
La vida será diferente y para verlo es maravillosa.
Entonces, estén abierto a este proceso. Desearlo!
