St. Clement’s Future
All are equal. No one is superior to anyone
else. No one inferior. No one more. No one
less. All are called. All have something to
share. All are needed. Every so often I will
hear someone say, “my ministry is more important than others.” Or, “What I do at church is really important.” They will
compare ministries and make other activities and services
seem far less important. Which is sad and sinful. The Church
has a hierarchy of ministries, but that does not make one person more important or above everyone else. Just because we
are called to a ministry does not make us more important or
more special. A deacon, priest, or bishop does not become
“special” because of their ministry. They don’t become more
important. In fact, they are called to be more humble. The
same with any leadership in the church, in government, or in
society. Leadership is always a call to humble oneself for the
greater good. Pope Francis is giving us a wonderful model of
humble leadership. By his words and deeds. “Humility saves
man: pride makes him lose his way. . . The world tells us to
seek success, power and money; God tells us to seek humility, service and love. . . Through prayer, charity and humility
before God, people receive a heart which is firm and merciful, attentive and generous, a heart which is not closed.” “In
a very real way, the poor are our teachers. They show us that
people’s value is not measured by their possessions or how
much money they have in the bank. A poor person, a person
lacking material possessions, always maintains his or her
dignity. The poor can teach us much about humility and trust
in God.”
“In the end, humility also means service. It
means making room for God by stripping oneself, ‘emptying
oneself,’ as Scripture says. This -- the pouring out of oneself
-- is the greatest humiliation of all.”
Leadership in the
church begins at the cross and flows from the strength of the
cross. We must rely on the Lord and not ourselves. As St.
John the Baptist says: “He must increase; I must decrease.”
The more Christ is in us and guides our actions, the more
we become authentic servant leaders.
Thoughts
St. Bernard Abbey
Last month, when I did a silent retreat
at St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Ala.,
I immediately noticed the growing
diversity of the monks. Monks who live
in community. Who pray, eat, and work
together and share most of their
material things. There are now monks at St. Bernard from
many different states and regions of the United States, Colombia, Cuba, Canada, and Vietnam. Monks ranging in age
from their seventies to their twenties. From many different
backgrounds and ethnicities. All committed to each other.
They have great fraternity, harmony, and brotherly concern.
And show great hospitality. Virtues that Christ calls all of us
to strive for. These monks teach us how we can be one parish combining our diversity for the common cause of Christ.
Dangers of Indifference
“Today no one in the world feels
responsible … we have fallen into the
hypocritical attitude of the priest and of
the servant of the altar that Jesus speaks
about in the parable of the Good
Samaritan: We look upon the brother half
dead by the roadside, perhaps we think ‘poor guy,’ and we
continue on our way, it's none of our business; and we feel
fine with this … The culture of well-being, that makes us
think of ourselves, that makes us insensitive to the cries of
others, that makes us live in soap bubbles, that are beautiful
but are nothing, are illusions of futility, of the transient, that
brings indifference to others, that brings even the globalization of indifference … We are accustomed to the suffering
of others, it doesn’t concern us, it’s none of our business.”

El Futuro de San Clemente
Todos son iguales. Nadien es superior a nadie.
Nadien es inferior. Nadien es más. Nadien es
menos. Todos son llamados. Todos tienen algo
que compartir. Todos so necesarios. De vez en
cuando voy a escuchar a alguien decir, "mi ministerio es más
importante que los demás." O: "Lo que hago en la iglesia es realmente importante." Se compararán los ministerios y hacen que
otras actividades y servicios parezcan mucho menos importantes.
Lo que es triste y pecaminoso. La Iglesia tiene una jerarquía de
ministerios, pero eso no hace que una persona sea más importante o que esté por encima de todos los demás. El hecho de que
estamos llamados a un ministerio no nos hace más importante o
más especial. Un diácono, sacerdote u obispo no se convierta en
"especial" debido a su ministerio. Ellos no se vuelven más importantes. De hecho, están llamados a ser más humilde. Lo mismo con cualquier liderazgo en la iglesia, en el gobierno o en la

El liderazgo en la iglesia
comienza en la cruz y se deriva de la fuerza de la cruz. Debemos
confiar en el Señor y no a nosotros mismos. Como San Juan
Bautista dice: "És necesario que el crezca y que yo disminuya."
En cuanto más Cristo este en nosotros y guía nuestras acciones, nos convertiremos más auténticos líderes de servicio.

El Amor Lo Conquista Todo
"Que hace que los Cristianos sean diferentes y el
cristianismo sea distinto a cualquier otra religión?
Es gracia—tratando a otros no como se merecen,
pero como Dios desea que sean tratados, con
bondad y misericordia. Dios es bueno para los
injustos, así como los justos. Su amor abraza santo y pecador por
igual. Dios busca lo mejor para nosotros y nos enseña a buscar el
mayor bien de los demás, incluso los que odian y nos abusan.
Nuestro amor por los demás, incluso aquellos que son ingratos y
egoístas hacia nosotros, debe estar marcada por la misma bondad
y misericordia que Dios nos ha mostrado. "Nuestra oración por
aquellos que nos hacen mal tanto rompe el poder de la venganza
y libera el poder del amor para hacer el bien en el rostro del mal.
¿Cómo podemos amar a los que nos hacen daño y la mala voluntad? Con Dios todo es posible. . . Su amor lo conquista todo, incluso nuestras heridas, miedos, prejuicios y dolores. Sólo la cruz
de Jesucristo nos puede liberar de la tiranía de la malicia, el odio,
la venganza y el resentimiento y nos da el valor para volver el
mal con el bien. Tal amor y gracia tiene poder para sanar y salvar
de la destrucción."

St. Bernard Abbey
El mes pasado, cuando hice un retiro de
silencio en St. Bernard Abbey en Cullman,
Alabama, inmediatamente me di cuenta de
la creciente diversidad de los monjes. Los
monjes que viven en la comunidad. Que
rezan, comen y trabajan juntos y comparten la mayor parte de
sus cosas materiales.
En la actualidad hay muchos monjes de San Bernardo en diferentes estados y regiones de los Estados Unidos, Colombia, Cuba, Canadá y Vietnam diferentes. Monjes de edades comprendidas entre los setenta a los veinte años. De muchos orígenes y
etnias diferentes. Todos ellos comprometidos el uno al otro.
Tienen gran fraternidad, armonía, y preocupación fraternal. Y
muestran una gran hospitalidad.
Virtudes que Cristo nos llama a todos a luchar. Estos monjes
nos enseñan cómo podemos ser una parroquia combinando
nuestra diversidad por la causa común de Cristo.
Peligros de la indiferencia
"Hoy en día nadie en el mundo se siente
responsable ... hemos caído en la actitud
hipócrita del sacerdote y del servidor del
altar que habla Jesús en la parábola del
Buen Samaritano: Nosotros vemos al
hermano medio muerto al borde del
camino, quizá pensamos 'pobre', y continuamos en nuestro
camino, que no es de nuestro negocio; y nos sentimos muy bien
con esto ... La cultura del bienestar, que nos hace pensar de
nosotros mismos, que nos hace insensibles a los gritos de los
demás, que nos hace vivir en pompas de jabón, que son
hermosas, pero no son nada, son ilusiones de la futilidad , del
transitorio, que trae la indiferencia hacia los demás, que trae
incluso la globalización de la indiferencia ... Estamos acostumbrados al sufrimiento de los otros, no nos concierne, no es
asunto de nosotros."
"Somos una sociedad que ha olvidado la experiencia del llanto, de 'sufrir con': la globalización
que la indiferencia ha tomado de nosotros la capacidad de llorar."
Padre Greg Boyle, SJ, se basa en esta tatuajes en su libro sobre
el corazón: "supongo que Jesús podría haber elegido una estrategia que funcionó mejor (resultados basados en la evidencia) que no terminó en la cruz -, pero que no podía encontrar una
estrategia más empapado con la fidelidad que la que él abrazó.
Se pone de pie con la menor probabilidad de tener éxito hasta
que el éxito es sucedido por algo más valioso: el parentesco."
Padre Boyle pregunta además: "'¿Puede ser alcanzado por
otros?' Contrarrestar la indiferencia requiere reventar las burbujas de jabón de seguridad en sí mismo que nos aíslan de tantos
vecinos necesitados. La indiferencia es interrumpida por las
preguntas, '¿A quién reciben y permiten que los reciba a ustedes? Y quién se queda fuera de esta ecuación, y por qué?' Nosotros sólo superamos la indiferencia en la medida que nos permitimos ser alcanzado por otros. Este es el primer paso en el camino de la misericordia."
Padre Pedro Arrupe, que era superior general de los jesuitas,
escribió un hermoso poema titulado "Fall in Love" como el antídoto a la indiferencia: "No hay nada más práctico que encontrar a Dios, es decir, que enamorarse de una absoluta, definitiva
camino. Lo que está en amor con, lo que se apodera de su imaginación, afectará a todo. Enamorarse, permanecer en el amor,
y lo decidirá todo."

Virtus for minors
(Including any minor volunteers)
Below are the dates and times of Virtus, safe environment training for minors. Anyone and everyone who wishes
to volunteer in church functions/activities/ministries (not limited to ushers, choirs, altar servers, babysitters at St.
Clement functions) must attend the training classes offered to the parish PSR classes. If you do not attend and go
through Virtus, you will not be able to volunteer in the church. Any questions please contact the church office or
contact Gloria Carroll. Thank you.

K-2 graders: September 10th 9:30 am – 10:30 am
