Dear Parent,
CAS, which stands for Creativity Action Service, is a major component of the International Baccalaureate (IB)
program, and all diploma candidates must participate and fulfill specific requirements. CAS aims to provide students
with challenges in the three areas designated in the program’s name:
Creativity - This covers a wide range of creative activities, including the arts, and it reflects the IB’s focus on creative
thinking.
Action – This includes sports and other physical activities outside the main curriculum.
Service – This entails actively helping others on a local and global level.
Diploma candidates are expected to spend at least 50 hours participating in activities in each of the three areas,
requiring a total of 150 hours over the two year course of the IB program. CAS activities are intended to be spread out
as evenly as possible throughout the school year, rather than be carried out in condensed periods, and they should
occur outside school time. Students should undertake each task with clear goals and with a responsible adult
supervisor from outside of the school. The students cannot receive payment for these activities. Additionally, family
responsibilities, like helping younger siblings with homework or assisting elderly relatives, are not accepted towards
CAS hours. All chosen activities should involve active participation by the student and should benefit the wider
community. In the coming days, students will receive more specific guidelines about what constitutes an acceptable
CAS project or activity, and each proposed project or activity will be evaluated and approved in advance, either by me
as CAS Coordinator or by Debora Real, the CAS Advisor.
Students will be required to reflect on their activities and upload written and visual evidence of their projects into a
software program called Managebac, which is provided by BFIS. Each semester, your child´s progress in CAS will be
evaluated and commented upon in the report cards.
Please note that 12th Grade students must have:

El programa CAS (Servicio Acción Creatividad) es un componente importante del programa de Bachillerato
Internacional (IB) y todos los candidatos al Diploma deben participar y cumplir con unos requisitos específicos. CAS
tiene como objetivo proporcionar a los alumnos retos en las tres áreas señaladas que componen su mismo nombre:
Creatividad - Cubre una amplia gama de actividades creativas, incluido el arte, y refleja la importancia del
pensamiento creativo en el IB.
Acción - Incluye deportes y otras actividades físicas fuera del plan de estudios general.
Servicio - Implica ayudar activamente a los demás a nivel local y global.
Los candidatos al Diploma deberán dedicar al menos 50 horas a actividades en cada una de las tres áreas, lo que
requiere un total de 150 horas en el curso de dos años del programa de IB. Las actividades de CAS deberán
realizarse con la mayor regularidad posible a lo largo del año escolar, en lugar de condensarlas en períodos cortos, y
siempre fuera del horario escolar. Los alumnos emprenderán cada tarea con objetivos claros y bajo la supervisión de
un adulto con responsabilidad externo al colegio. Los alumnos no serán compensados económicamente por estas
actividades. Además, las responsabilidades familiares, como ayudar a hermanos menores con los deberes o a
personas mayores en la familia, no se aceptarán como horas de CAS. Todas las actividades elegidas deben implicar
la participación activa del alumno y deben beneficiar a una comunidad más amplia. En los próximos días, los alumnos
recibirán indicaciones más específicas sobre lo que se considera un proyecto o actividad CAS aceptable. Cada
propuesta será evaluada y aprobada de antemano, ya sea por mí, como coordinadora de CAS o bien por Débora
Real, orientadora de CAS.
Los alumnos tendrán que reflexionar sobre sus actividades y aportar evidencia escrita y visual a través de un
programa llamado Managebac, proporcionado por BFIS. Cada semestre se evaluará el progreso de su hijo/a y se
harán comentarios en sus respectivos informes de evaluación.
Tengan en cuenta que los alumnos de 12º curso deben tener:
- 120 horas documentadas en Managebac antes del 15 de noviembre
- 150 horas documentadas en Managebac antes del 23 de febrero
