Theme #16: Having a heart to serve
Welcome – Initial Prayer – Ask God to guide the reflection
See the Reality: “Here am I among you as one who serves”. (Luke 22:27) To be a follower of Jesus is to be called
to serve. This goes against the strong tendency that human success is having others serve you. Service is not
slavery. Slavery is feeling forced or obliged to serve; Christian service arises from being free and choosing to put
the needs of others before our own needs. Jesus’ example is that the all-powerful God wants us to be free from
sin and death, so he has come as one who serves rather than be served. “His state was divine/ yet he did not cling
to his equality with God/ but he emptied himself/to assume the condition of a slave.” (Philippians 2:5)



In what ways have you put others’ needs before your own?
Has serving others been easy or hard for you? Explain.
Describe a time when someone else has served you. How did it make you feel?
Judge according to the Word of God READ: “(Jesus said:) Do you understand what I have done to you? You
call me Master and Lord, and rightly so. If I then, the Lord and Master have washed your feet, you should wash
other’s feet. I have given you an example that you may copy what I have done to you”. (John 13:14-15)


What are some ways the Church has responded to Christ’s call to service?
In what ways does serving others help you be a better Christian?
READ: “This must not happen among you. No; anyone who want to be great among you must be a servant, and
anyone who wants to be first among you must be a slave.; just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to
serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many”. (Matthew 20:27-28)



What kind of greatness is Jesus talking about in this text?
Have you ever been happier by putting other’s needs before your own? Explain
How does Christian service help you grow stronger in your faith?
Put into action the fruits of your reflection Jesus has promised to give us what we need to be of service to
others. “May the Lord comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing that you do or say”.
(2 Thessalonians 2:17) Service in the name of Christ not only draws us closer to God, but also strengthens our
family relationships and our commitment to the Church.

Tema #16: Un Corazón para Servir
Bienvenida – Oración inicial – Pedir a Dios que guie la reflexión
Ver la realidad: “En cambio, yo estoy entre ustedes como él que sirve”. (Lucas 22:27) Ser seguidor de Cristo es
ser llamado al servicio. Es contrario a la tendencia fuerte que marca el éxito humano: tener otros que te sirvan.
Servicio no es esclavitud/ La esclavitud es sentirse forzado u obligado al servicio. Servicio cristiano brota de la
libertad y optando poner las necesidades de otros ante de las tuyas. El ejemplo de Jesús es que Dios
todopoderoso quiere que librarnos del pecado y de la muerte; entonces vino como un qué sirve y no ser servido.
“Aunque era de natualeza divina, no insistió en ser igual a Dios, sino que hizo a un lado lo que era propio, y
tomando natualeza de siervo nació como hombre”. (Filipenses 2:5)
 ¿Cómo son algunas maneras que has puesto las necesidades antes que las tuyas?
 ¿Es fácil o difícil para usted sirviendo a otros? Explicarse
 ¿Cuentas de un momento en otra persona te sirvió? ¿Cómo sentías?
Juzgar de acuerdo con la Palabra de Dios LEAN: “Jesús dijo:) ¿Entienden ustedes lo que les he hecho? Ustedes
me llaman Maestro y Señor, y tienen razón, porque lo soy. Pues si yo, el Maestro y Señor les he lavado a ustedes
los pies, también ustedes deben lavarse los pies unos a otros. Yo les he dado un ejemplo para que ustedes hagan
lo mismo que yo les he hecho”. (Juan 13: 14-15)


¿Cuáles son algunas maneras en que la Iglesia ha respondido a la llamada de Cristo al servicio?

LEAN: “Al contrario, el que entre ustedes quiera ser grande deberá server a los demás y el que entre ustedes
quiera ser el primero, deberá ser su esclavo. Porque, del mismo modo, el Hijo del hombre no vino para que le
sirvan, sino para server y para dar su vida como precio por la libertad de muchos. (Mateo 20:27-28)



¿Que tipo de grandeza está hablando Jesús?
¿Te hizo más felíz cuando ponías las necesidades de otros antes de las suyas? Explicarse
¿ Cómo te hace más fuerte en tu fe el servicio Cristiano?
Poner en acción los frutos de nuestra reflexión: Jesús nos promote darnos lo que necesitamos como ayuda en
nuestro servicio a otros. “Dis nuestro Padre, que en su bondad nos ha animado nos a dado consuelo eterno y
una buena esperanza, anime sus conrazones y les mantenga firmes para que todo lo que hagan o dicen sea
bueno”.
(2 Tesalonicenses 2:17) Servicio en el nombre de Cristo no solo nos junta a Dios, sino también fortaleza nuestros
lazos familiares y nuestro compromiso a la Iglesia.
