Dear Inter Elementary Parents,
It’s that time again! The Arco Iris Race is on March 30th and Inter elementary is
excited to be participating for the fifth year in a row. As you likely know, this race
supports a truly amazing hospital called UNOP through an equally amazing
organization called Ayudame a Vivir. UNOP provides free cancer treatment to
children in Guatemala. Here’s how you can support this wonderful cause:
SELL REGISTRATION TICKETS FOR THE RACE:






Students will receive a booklet with five race registration tickets on Thursday,
February 27th.
Students will try to sell as many tickets as possible and bring the money and
ticket stubs back to their classrooms by Wednesday, March 26th at the latest.
If students need more tickets, we will happily give them more!
Payment of the tickets can be cash or, if necessary, check (If someone pays
with check, please ensure their phone number is written on the back and the
check is made out to Club Rotario de la Ciudad de Guatemala)
Any unsold tickets must also be returned to the classroom by the due date.
The race will be on Sunday, March 30th!

valuable lesson about the power of giving.

RACE






The race is on Sunday, March 30th
5K family race (healthy children running to help sick children)
Kids can bring bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, etc. Dogs are invited too. They
really push to make it a family event.
The organization that plans this race is called Fundacion Ayudame a
Vivir http://www.ayuvi.org.gt/
100% of the money raised goes toward the treatment of patients in UNOP
Hospital.
Each person who purchases a Q70 ticket receives a t-shirt and a medal when they
finish the race.
UNOP HOSPITAL














UNOP treats children from 0-18 years old with pre-diagnosed cancer. These
patients come from all over Guatemala and the treatment is absolutely free
(which is why they need big fundraisers to fund this program).
UNOP has treated 4,846 children over the last 15 years.
Treatment lasts, on average, 8 years per child.
Hospital treats the whole child and the whole family:
Family therapy is included
Food and a place to stay for the guardian staying with the child is provided
Basic necessities are given to the family while the child is in treatment
Transportation to the hospital is provided
A small school is provided to help both the patient and their families learn to
read and write, etc.
ALL OF THIS IS FREE for the patients and their families!
The average hospital costs are as follows:
Q500,000 per child over the 8 years of treatment necessary
Q250,000 is the amount of money the hospital needs per DAY to run things the
way they are currently running them.
This is about Q90,000,000 a year
Estimados padres de familia:
¡Ha llegado el momento otra vez! La carrera Arco Iris será el 30 de marzo y en
Primaria estamos emocionados de participar nuevamente, por quinta vez
consecutiva. Como ustedes saben esta carrera apoya la estupenda labor del
hospital UNOP a través de la grandiosa asociación Ayúdame a Vivir. El UNOP
provee tratamientos gratis a niños con cáncer en Guatemala. Ustedes pueden
apoyar esta noble causa de la siguiente manera:
VENTA DE BOLETOS DE INSCRIPCIÓN PARA LA CARRERA:
• El jueves 27 de febrero los estudiantes recibirán un talonario con cinco entradas
para la carrera.
• Los estudiantes deberán tratar de vender tantas entradas como les sea posible y
traer el dinero y los coditos de los talonarios, y entregárselos a sus maestros a más
tardar el miércoles 26 de marzo.
• Si los estudiantes necesitan más entradas, con mucho gusto se les entregarán
más talonarios.
• Es mejor si las entradas las pagan en efectivo, pero si es necesario, sí se pueden
recibir cheques (Si alguien paga con cheque, por favor asegúrense de escribir el
número de celular de la persona en la parte de atrás del cheque y el cheque debe
ir a nombre de: Club Rotario de la Ciudad de Guatemala)
• Las entradas que no se vendieron los deben devolver a su maestro encargado.
• ¡La carrera será el domingo 30 de marzo!

DATOS IMPORTANTES SOBRE LA CARRERA Y EL UNOP
CARRERA






La carrera será el domingo 30 de marzo.
Carrera familiar de 5K (niños sanos corriendo para ayudar a niños enfermos)
Los niños pueden llevar sus bicicletas, patinetas, patines, etc. Los perros también
están invitados. Realmente se trata de hacer de esta carrera, un evento familiar.

100% del dinero recolectado se entrega al UNOP para tratamientos de niños con
cáncer.
Cada persona que compre su ticket (Q70.00) recibirá una playera y además una
medalla que se entrega cuando la persona finalice la carrera.
HOSPITAL UNOP











El UNOP trata a niños de 0-18 años diagnosticados con cáncer. Los pacientes
vienen de toda Guatemala y el tratamiento es completamente gratis (razón por
la cual ellos necesitan grandes eventos para financiar estos tratamientos).
El UNOP ha tratado a 4,846 niños alrededor de 15 años.
El tratamiento para un niño en promedio dura alrededor de 8 años.
El hospital da el tratamiento al niño y a la familia:
Se provee terapia sicológica a la familia.
El hospital también provee comida y un lugar para que la familia se quede
cuando el niño está en tratamiento.
Se cubren las necesidades básicas de la familia mientras el niño está en
tratamiento.
Se les provee transporte para el hospital.
Hay una pequeña escuela donde el niño y su familia pueden ir para que
aprendan a leer y a escribir, etc.
¡TODO ESTO ES GRATIS para los pacientes y sus familias!
Los gastos promedio del hospital son los siguientes: Q500,000 por niño, por 8
años de tratamiento. El hospital necesita Q250,000 POR DÍA, para llevar a
cabo sus labores diarias. Estamos hablando de Q90,000,000 por año.
