NUEVAS INSTRUCCIONES PARA LOS AUTORES 2016
La Revista Argentina de Microbiología (RAM, http://ees.elsevier.com/ram/)
es una publicación trimestral editada por la Asociación Argentina
de Microbiología y destinada a la difusión de trabajos científicos en
las distintas áreas de la Microbiología y la Parasitología. Los temas
de interés especial incluyen las infecciones causadas por bacterias,
hongos, parásitos, virus y agentes infecciosos no convencionales,
mecanismos de patogenicidad, factores de virulencia y respuesta
inmune asociada a los agentes infecciosos, resistencia a los agentes
antimicrobianos, taxonomía, epidemiología y métodos diagnósticos
fenotípicos, inmunológicos y moleculares, entre otros. La RAM también publica artículos sobre ecología microbiana y diversidad, zoo y
fitopatógenos y sobre microorganismos de interés alimentario, agrícola, industrial y ambiental. Con la finalidad de incluir los aspectos
básicos de la investigación en el área, la Revista también considera
para su publicación trabajos sobre genómica, proteómica y enzimología de microorganismos y parásitos. Asimismo, es de interés para
la RAM la publicación de artículos de impacto regional.
La RAM cuenta con secciones en las cuales se publican artículos originales, informes breves, editoriales, imágenes microbiológicas, cartas al editor, actualizaciones y consensos, correspondientes a las distintas áreas de la microbiología. Dichas
secciones son:

La Asociación Argentina de Microbiología se reserva los derechos de propiedad y reproducción del material aceptado y publicado. La RAM posee una licencia Creative Commons del tipo
Atribución No Comercial-Sin Derivadas (BY-NC-ND). Los artículos publicados en la RAM son de libre acceso, y puede accederse
a los mismos a través de las bases de datos internacionales.
REQUISITOS GENERALES
Los manuscritos enviados a esta revista deben constituir informes de investigación original. El envío de un manuscrito implica
que los autores tienen las autorizaciones institucionales para
proceder a la publicación de los datos y que el mismo manuscrito (u otro de contenido similar) no ha sido previamente publicado (salvo presentaciones parciales en reuniones científicas) ni
se encuentra en consideración por otra revista.
Política Editorial
Revista Argentina de Microbiología suscribe la política editorial
reflejada en ‘‘Uniform requeriments for manuscripts submitted
to biomedical journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication’’, disponible en: http://www.ICMJE.org
Autoría. En la lista de autores deben figurar únicamente
aquellas personas que cumplan cada uno de los siguientes requisitos: 1) Haber participado en la concepción y realización
del trabajo que ha dado como resultado el artículo en cuestión.
2) Haber participado en la redacción del texto y en sus posibles
revisiones. 3) Haber aprobado la versión del texto que finalmente va a ser publicada.
Conflictos de intereses. Los autores deben indicar cualquier
relación financiera que pudiera dar lugar a un conflicto de intereses en relación con el artículo publicado. Incluso si los autores consideran que no los hay, deberán indicarlo.
Responsabilidades éticas. Cuando se describen estudios que se
han realizado en seres humanos se debe indicar si los procedimientos seguidos se conformaron a las normas éticas del comité de
experimentación humana responsable (institucional o regional),
y de acuerdo con la Asociación Médica Mundial y la Declaración
de Helsinki (http://www.wma.net/s/ethicsunit/helsinki.htm). No
se deben utilizar nombres, iniciales o números de hospital en
ninguna sección del manuscrito. Cuando se describen estudios /
experimentos en animales se debe indicar si se han seguido las
pautas de una institución o consejo de investigación internacional, o una ley nacional reguladora del cuidado y la utilización
de animales de laboratorio (CICUAE). En todo caso, deberá incluirse una declaración escrita en tal sentido.
Consentimiento informado. Los autores deben mencionar en
la sección “Materiales y métodos” y en la sección “Derecho
a la Privacidad y Consentimiento Informado” en el formulario
de envío de artículos que los procedimientos utilizados en los
pacientes y controles han sido realizados tras la obtención del
consentimiento informado (Ley de Habeas Data). Si se reproducen fotografías o datos de pacientes, los autores son responsables de la obtención del consentimiento por escrito, autorizando su publicación, reproducción y divulgación en soporte papel
e Internet.

PRESENTACIÓN DE LOS ORIGINALES
Los manuscritos deben dirigirse al Comité Editor de la Revista
Argentina de Microbiología acompañados de una nota de acuerdo con el siguiente modelo:
“Sres. Comité Editor de la Revista Argentina de Microbiología:
en mi carácter de autor responsable declaro que el resto de los
autores han acordado que los represente frente a la RAM con
respecto al envío del manuscrito …[Título]… y son responsables
junto a mí de su contenido. Este trabajo (u otro de contenido
similar) no ha sido publicado previamente ni está siendo considerado en otra revista para su publicación. Asimismo, manifiesto mi conformidad de otorgar los derechos de copia (copyright)
a la Revista Argentina de Microbiología, una vez concretada la
publicación”.
Los cambios de autores o del orden de los mismos solo serán
considerados si se solicita mediante una nota firmada por todos
los autores a tal efecto.
Los autores deberán especificar la existencia de conflictos
de interés que puedan afectar la evaluación del manuscrito.
Estos serán confidenciales y mantenidos en reserva por el Comité Editor.
Deben especificarse en la sección agradecimientos las fuentes de financiación para la tarea experimental descrita en el
manuscrito, ya sean estas institucionales, oficiales o privadas.
El material será analizado por el Comité Editor y sometido a la
consideración de dos o más árbitros científicos designados para
cada caso. Los autores deberán sugerir al menos 3 revisores
para la evaluación del manuscrito.
El Comité Editor se reserva el derecho de rechazar aquellos
manuscritos cuyos contenidos se superponen total o parcialmente con trabajos ya publicados, o cuyas temáticas no se
correspondan con las de la RAM. Asimismo, son motivos de rechazo la falta de cumplimiento de las reglas editoriales, violaciones éticas, baja calidad científica y un uso pobre del idioma,
sea este el inglés o el español. El Comité Editor se reserva el
derecho de efectuar las modificaciones gramaticales o de estilo
que considere necesarias.
ORGANIZACIÓN Y FORMATO
La RAM acepta artículos originales, informes breves, artículos
especiales, imágenes microbiológicas, cartas al editor, editoriales y también edita suplementos. Se solicita leer cuidadosamente las especificaciones de cada formato a los efectos de
elegir el más apropiado y de esta manera agilizar el proceso de
evaluación.
Los manuscritos podrán redactarse indistintamente en español o en inglés, aunque el Comité Editor estimula a los autores
a escribir los trabajos en inglés para favorecer su difusión y
lectura a nivel internacional.
El manuscrito deberá cargarse en el sitio web de la RAM
(http://ees.elsevier.com/ram/). Deberán incluirse los siguien-
tes archivos por separado: Carta de presentación, Manuscrito,
Tablas y Figuras.
Artículos originales. Son trabajos de investigación completos
y deben redactarse respetando las siguientes secciones: Título
(en español y en inglés) y título abreviado, Resumen y Palabras
clave (en español y en inglés), Introducción, Materiales y métodos, Resultados, Discusión, Agradecimientos y Bibliografía. El
manuscrito no deberá exceder las 8000 palabras incluyendo a
todas las secciones, con hasta 6 tablas o figuras.
Informes breves. Son trabajos de menor extensión, entre los
que se incluyen casuísticas, casos clínicos y descripciones de
técnicas o dispositivos nuevos, avalados por trabajos experimentales concluyentes. Se debe omitir la división del texto
en secciones y todo el manuscrito no podrá exceder las 3000
palabras, con un máximo de 15 citas bibliográficas y de 3 tablas
o figuras. Es necesario un análisis cuidadoso de la presentación
de los datos para evitar su reiteración en el texto, en las tablas
y en las figuras, a fin de mantener la característica de brevedad
de este tipo de artículos.
Artículos especiales. Son actualizaciones o consensos de grupos de trabajo acerca de temas de gran interés en el ámbito regional o internacional. Sus autores deben ser especialistas en la
materia y el texto debe incluir una revisión bibliográfica amplia
y actualizada. Los artículos especiales admiten hasta 10 000
palabras, 8 tablas o figuras y no más de 100 citas bibliográficas.
Imágenes microbiológicas. Pueden corresponder a fotos de
bacterias, hongos, parásitos o virus, tomadas de exámenes en
fresco o con coloraciones y observadas bajo microscopía óptica,
electrónica o de fluorescencia. También se admiten otras imágenes fotográficas, por ejemplo, microorganismos en medios de
cultivo, lesiones ilustrativas en pacientes o en animales de experimentación, imágenes radiográficas y ecográficas, de tomografías computarizadas, de resonancia magnética nuclear, etc.
Estas imágenes, de gran valor didáctico y no necesariamente
excepcional, deben estar acompañadas de un texto explicativo
y de flechas indicadoras, cuando corresponda. El texto no debe
exceder las 300 palabras. Los requisitos de calidad para el envío
de las imágenes se describen bajo el ítem “Figuras”.
Cartas al Editor. Pueden corresponder a comentarios o nuevos datos. Los primeros consisten en observaciones sobre los
artículos publicados en la revista; los segundos están destinados a comunicar hallazgos concisos que no son apropiados
para su publicación como trabajo completo o informe breve.
Ambas clases de contribuciones no deben exceder las 500 palabras, deben tener título en español e inglés, no deben llevar
resumen y pueden contener no más de una figura o tabla. Los
autores y sus filiaciones aparecerán al pie de la carta. Se debe
proporcionar solo la filiación primaria de cada autor. Los comentarios deben hacer mención del volumen y el número en
que se publicó el artículo comentado, de su título completo y
del apellido del primer autor. Asimismo, deben contener referencias bibliográficas que apoyen el argumento de quien envía
la carta. Para considerar la publicación de un comentario, se
solicitará primero una respuesta al autor de correspondencia
del artículo publicado; la aprobación final y publicación de
ambas quedará a criterio del editor. En el caso de una contribución presentada como nuevos datos, ésta se asignará a un
editor experto en la materia, quien junto con revisores exter-

nos se encargará de su evaluación. Se debe tener en cuenta
que algunos de los servicios de indexación no incluyen las Cartas al Editor en sus bases de datos.
Editoriales. Abordan tópicos científicos de gran actualidad
y particular relevancia para la comunidad científica especializada en la Microbiología, o trabajos de opinión sobre política
científica. La oportunidad y autoría de los editoriales, así como
sus lineamientos generales, quedan exclusivamente a criterio
del Comité Editor.
Suplementos. Corresponden a revisiones extensas de un tema
específico realizadas por una o varias sociedades científicas o
universidades, o a los resúmenes de las contribuciones efectuadas en el marco de eventos científicos organizados por la
Asociación Argentina de Microbiología o alguna de sus Divisiones
o Filiales (comunicaciones orales, paneles, conferencias, mesas
redondas, etc.). Los suplementos estarán a cargo de editores
invitados; sus propuestas temáticas y lineamientos generales
deberán ser aceptados por el Comité Editor.
La revisión de los manuscritos correspondientes a los suplementos estará a cargo de revisores elegidos por el Comité Editor (revisiones extensas) y de los editores invitados (resúmenes
de eventos). El suplemento deberá ser financiado en su totalidad por la entidad que ha organizado la reunión científica, la
que tendrá en cuenta que el suplemento deberá ser accesible
a todos los participantes del evento o a todos los socios de
la Asociación Argentina de Microbiología (por suscripción y online). Con respecto a la edición, el suplemento deberá respetar exactamente el formato y el estilo de la Revista Argentina
de Microbiología en todos sus aspectos (tapa, tipo de papel,
impresión, tablas, figuras, fotos, etc.), tal como se describe
en este instructivo. Los suplementos correspondientes a los resúmenes de los eventos deben incluir en este orden: nómina
de los miembros del Comité Editor de la Revista Argentina de
Microbiología, datos de presentación del evento (título completo, lugar y fecha), índice en español y en inglés, agradecimientos, nómina de las autoridades del evento y mensaje/s
del/de los presidente/s. A continuación se presentarán los resúmenes numerados desde el uno con números arábigos. Al final
del suplemento debe incluirse el índice alfabético de autores y
las “Instrucciones para los autores” de la Revista Argentina de
Microbiología, en español y en inglés. El programa esquemático
del evento sólo se podrá incluir en forma de tríptico, suelto en
el interior del suplemento.
Todos los manuscritos deberán incluir las consideraciones éticas pertinentes, cuando corresponda.
ELABORACIÓN DE LOS MANUSCRITOS
Los manuscritos se deben escribir en hoja A4 con márgenes de
3 cm de lado. Se deberá utilizar formato de fuente Times New
Roman, estilo regular, tamaño 12 puntos, a doble espacio. Las
letras en negrita o itálica se usarán sólo cuando corresponda.
Las páginas deberán numerarse consecutivamente (en el ángulo inferior derecho) e incluir la numeración de las líneas del
manuscrito. Esto se aplicará tanto para el texto como para las
tablas, figuras, leyendas y también para la bibliografía. Para
la redacción del manuscrito se sugiere la lectura de la guía de
estilo para publicaciones y anexos de la AAM disponibles en el
enlace http://www.aam.org.ar/ram.php.
Carátula. En la primera página se debe indicar el título del
trabajo (sólo la primera letra en mayúscula, el resto en minúscula); los autores (primer nombre completo, iniciales de los
nombres restantes y apellidos completos de todos los autores);
lugar de trabajo (nombre de la institución y dirección postal)
y título abreviado del trabajo, de hasta 50 caracteres, para la
cabeza de página. Si el trabajo incluye autores con distintos
lugares de trabajo, estos se indicarán con letras en posición
de superíndice junto a los nombres. El autor responsable de
la correspondencia se indicará con un asterisco en posición de
superíndice ubicado junto al nombre; se detallará su dirección
de correo electrónico. En aquellos casos en que uno o varios de
los autores hayan cambiado de filiación, se deberá consignar la
filiación donde se realizó el trabajo y al pie de página, su lugar
de trabajo actual.
Agradecimientos. Esta sección se debe presentar en un solo
párrafo; se deberán mencionar las fuentes de financiación y los
individuos o instituciones que hayan contribuido con reactivos,
materiales biológicos o discusión de resultados.
Resúmenes. Se incluirán sólo en los artículos originales, informes breves y artículos especiales y podrán tener una extensión máxima de 250 palabras para los artículos originales y de
150 palabras para los informes breves. El primero de ellos estará redactado en el idioma empleado en el trabajo; el segundo,
en el otro idioma y estará encabezado por el título completo
del trabajo. Cada uno de ellos estará seguido de una lista de 3
a 6 palabras clave en el idioma correspondiente. Se debe evitar
en los resúmenes el uso de abreviaturas y de citas bibliográficas. Dado que el resumen puede ser publicado separadamente por servicios bibliográficos, se deberá asegurar que resulte
comprensible aun en ausencia del texto completo.
Introducción. Debe suministrar suficiente y adecuada información sobre el tema en cuestión, como para permitir su comprensión al lector no especializado. Asimismo debe incluir la
hipótesis o la base científica que guió el diseño experimental y
los objetivos del trabajo definidos con claridad. Las referencias
citadas en esta sección deberán ser elegidas muy cuidadosamente y ser las más importantes del tema.
Materiales y Métodos. Debe contener una adecuada descripción de los métodos, aparatos, reactivos y procedimientos
utiliza- dos, con el detalle suficiente como para permitir la reproducción de los experimentos. Los procedimientos o técnicas
comunes y de utilización de rutina pueden citarse por medio
de una referencia (ej., determinación de la CIM según el CLSI,
2013). Los métodos nuevos o desarrollados especialmente para
el trabajo deben ser descritos con detalle, como así también la
fuente de drogas poco comunes o materiales biológicos (cepas
bacterianas, virales, fúngicas, plásmidos, etc.). La marca y la
procedencia de los reactivos, de los medios de cultivo y de los
equipos deben consignarse en el texto la primera vez que se los
cita identificando marca, ciudad/ estado (si correspondiera) y
país de origen.
Resultados. Debe incluir el diseño experimental y su base
científica, así como los resultados obtenidos presentados en
forma concisa como texto (preferentemente) o como tabla(s) o
figura(s). Evite el uso innecesario de tablas y figuras para mencionar datos que podrían ser presentados en el texto. No duplique la información incluyéndola en el texto y en las tablas o fi-
guras. Limite el número de fotografías a las mínimas necesarias
para mostrar los resultados experimentales. Numere las tablas
y figuras en el orden en el que se citan en el texto. Se deben
evitar las repeticiones y destacar sólo los datos importantes.
Se debe dejar para la sección Discusión la interpretación más
extensa.
Discusión. Debe hacer énfasis sobre los aspectos más importantes y novedosos del estudio, e interpretar los datos experimentales obtenidos en relación con los ya publicados. Indique
las conclusiones a las que se arribó y evite la reiteración de
datos y conceptos ya vertidos en secciones anteriores. Se admite la presentación de Resultados y Discusión como una sección
conjunta.
Bibliografía. En todos los manuscritos es conveniente que el
70 % de las citas bibliográficas corresponda a los últimos 10 años
y el 30 % restante se distribuya entre los trabajos clave publicados durante los años anteriores. Las citas bibliográficas se
deben escribir en hoja aparte y presentarse en orden alfabético
de autores, numeradas correlativamente empleando números
arábigos. En el texto, las citas deben aparecer con números en
posición de superíndice en correspondencia con el número con
que aparecen en la bibliografía. Las referencias a comentarios
personales y a trabajos inéditos deberán mencionarse en el texto como comunicación personal, escrito entre paréntesis.
Para las referencias, se deberán citar la totalidad de los autores y seguir los siguientes modelos:

Tablas. Se presentarán en archivos separados numeradas
consecutivamente con números arábigos, encabezadas con un
breve título explicativo, con las leyendas y/o aclaraciones que
correspondan al pie. Las llamadas para las aclaraciones al pie
se harán empleando letras en posición superíndice. Sólo los
bordes externos de la primera y la última fila y la separación
entre los títulos de las columnas y los datos se marcarán con
línea continua. No se marcarán las filas ni los bordes de las
columnas.
Figuras. Se presentarán en archivos separados, con el número de la figura en el margen superior izquierdo y en el orden que aparecen en el texto. Los dibujos deberán presentarse en condiciones que aseguren una adecuada reproducción.
Los números, letras y signos tendrán dimensiones adecuadas
para ser legibles cuando se hagan las reducciones necesarias.
INSTRUCCIONES PARA LOS AUTORES
Las referencias de los símbolos utilizados en las figuras deberán incluirse dentro de la misma figura y no en el texto de la
leyenda. Las fotografías podrán ser realizadas en color o en
blanco y negro, en el formato especificado por Elsevier. Las
resoluciones mínimas requeridas son 300 dpi para las imágenes y fotografías en color y escala de grises, 600 dpi para las
imágenes de arte de combinación (letras e imágenes) y 1200
dpi para las imágenes de arte de línea (gráficos y dibujos).
Nota: es muy importante que se use una adecuada resolución
de archivo. Todas las imágenes individuales que se importan
en un archivo gráfico deben estar en la resolución correcta
antes de su carga. Las leyendas de las figuras se presentarán
reunidas en una hoja aparte, ordenadas consecutivamente
con números arábigos. Se recomienda enviar las figuras en
el formato y tamaño final deseado, considerando un ancho
máximo de 8 o 16 centímetros para 1 o 2 columnas, respectivamente.
Secuencias de aminoácidos y ácidos nucleicos. Las secuencias nuevas comunicadas a través de la publicación en esta revista deberán ser depositadas en una base de datos y sus números de acceso incluidos en el manuscrito, previo a la etapa de
revisión. Los números de acceso deberán ser incorporados en un

PROCESO EDITORIAL
Una vez que el manuscrito ha cumplido el proceso editorial y se
encuentra listo para su publicación, se enviará por correo electrónico al autor responsable el archivo en formato .pdf de la
prueba de galera, para que realice las correcciones tipográficas
que correspondieran, siguiendo detalladamente las instrucciones provistas por Elsevier Editorial System.
La Revista Argentina de Microbiología apoya las políticas para
el registro de ensayos clínicos de la Organización Mundial de la
Salud (OMS) y del International Committee of Medical Journal
Editors (ICMJE), reconociendo la importancia de estas iniciativas para el registro y la divulgación internacional de información sobre estudios clínicos, en acceso abierto. En consecuencia, solamente se aceptarán para publicación los artículos
de investigaciones clínicas que hayan recibido un número de
identificación en uno de los Registros de Ensayos Clínicos validados por los criterios establecidos por la OMS y el ICMJE, cuyas
direcciones están disponibles en el sitio del ICMJE. El número
de identificación se deberá registrar al final del resumen.
COSTO DE PROCESAMIENTO
El cargo de procesamiento que la Asociación aplicará estará
asociado al tipo de artículo publicado, cuya extensión y formato deberá seguir las instrucciones mencionadas arriba.

Revista Argentina de Microbiología (RAM, http://ees.elsevier.com/ram/)
is published by the Asociación Argentina de Microbiología (AAM)
on a quarterly basis. The aim of this journal is to publish current
scientific works in the different areas of Microbiology and Parasitology. Some of the topics considered of special interest are: infections caused by bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses; mechanisms
of pathogenicity, and virulence factors; resistance to antimicrobial
agents; taxonomy; epidemiology and phenotypic, immunologic
and molecular diagnostic methods. RAM also publishes articles on
microbial ecology and diversity, zoo- and phytopathogens and microorganisms of value for food, agronomic, industrial and environmental applications. With the purpose of covering basic aspects
of research in the area, the journal is also interested in the publication of manuscripts on microorganism genomics, proteomics
and enzymology, as well as in those articles dealing with regional
impact.
RAM features original articles, brief reports, editorials, microbiological images, letters to the editor, updates and consensuses on the different areas of Microbiology under the following
sections:

The Asociación Argentina de Microbiología reserves the right to
use, reproduce and publish the accepted material. The license
type used by RAM is Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial- No Derivatives (BY-NC-ND). Published articles at RAM
are free of access, and can be downloaded from the international public databases.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Manuscripts submitted for publication in RAM should be original research articles. Submitting a manuscript for publication
implies that the authors have been authorized by the corresponding institutions to publish relevant data and that neither
the manuscript nor one with substantially similar content has
been previously published, -except in the case of partial presentations at scientific meetings-, nor is being considered for
publication by another journal.
Editorial policy
revista Argentina de Microbiología subscribes to the editorial
policy shown in ‘‘Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical
Publication, ’’available at: http://www. ICMJE.org.
Authorship. The list of authors must only include those persons who fulfil all the following requirements: 1) To have taken
part in the planning and performance of the work which has
resulted in the article in question. 2) To have taken part in the
writing of the text and in its possible reviews. 3) To have approved the version of the text which is finally to be published.
Conflict of interest. The authors must indicate any financial
relationship which might give rise to a conflict of interest in
relation to the published article. Even if the authors consider
there to be no such conflict, they must still indicate said relationships.
Ethical disclosures. When studies which have been carried
out on human beings are described, it is essential to indicate
whether the procedures followed comply with the ethical
standards of the human experimentation committee responsible (institutional or regional), and in accordance with the
World Medical Association and the Declaration of Helsinki
(http://www.wma.net/s/ethicsunit/helsinki.htm). Hospital
names, initials, or numbers must not be used in any section of
the manuscript. When animal experiments are described, it is
essential to indicate whether these have been carried out in
accordance with the standards of an international research institution or council, or with a national law regulating the care
and use of laboratory animals (CICUAE). Moreover, a written
declaration to this effect must be included.
Informed consent. The authors must mention in the section
“Materials and Methods” and in the “Right to Privacy and Informed Consent” form during the submission process that the
procedures used in patients and controls have been carried out
after obtaining informed consent (Habeas Data law). If patient
photographs or data are reproduced, the authors are responsible for obtaining written consent, authorizing their publication, reproduction, and dissemination in printed media and on
the Internet.

SUBMISSION OF ORIGINALS
Manuscripts should be addressed to the Editorial Board of Revista Argentina de Microbiología accompanied by a cover letter
according to the following model:
“Dear Editors of Revista Argentina de Microbiología,
As corresponding author (to whom correspondence should
be addressed), hereby declare that the coauthors have accepted to be represented by myself before RAM with regard to the submission of the manuscript “…Title…”, and
they are jointly responsible with me for the contents of this
work. Neither this manuscript (nor any other with similar
contents) has been previously published or i s being considered for publication by another journal. I also agree to
transfer the copyright to Revista Argentina de Microbiología
once published”.
A change of the corresponding author or the order of the list
of authors shall only be considered by a note signed by all the
authors to that effect. The authors shall also disclose any existing conflict of interests that might affect the manuscript assessment on an attached letter. The Editorial Board shall treat all
received manuscripts in strict confidence.
Funding sources for research work described in the manuscript, either from public or private institutions, commercial
affiliations
or consultancies, as well as co-ownership of patents for business purposes by one or more authors shall be indicated under
the Acknowledgements Section.
Contributions will be assessed by the Editorial Board and
submitted to the consideration of at least two scientific referees appointed for each case. Authors should recommend at
least three reviewers for evaluation of their manuscript. The
Editorial Board reserves the right to reject those manuscripts
whose contents partially or totally overlap with works already
published or whose topics are irrelevant to those of RAM. Furthermore, reasons for rejection are non-compliance of editorial
requirements, ethical violations, low scientific quality and poor
use of language, either English or Spanish. The Editorial Board
reserves the right to make all necessary grammatical and style
modifications.
ORGANIZATION AND FORMAT
RAM accepts original articles, brief reports, special articles,
microbiological images, letters to the editor, editorials and
supplements. Careful reading of the specifications for each
special format is recommended in order to choose the most
adequate one and therefore, to expedite the evaluation proceedings.
Manuscripts shall be written in Spanish or English. The Editorial Board encourages authors to use English as their language
of choice so that their work reaches wider international scope
and readership.
Manuscripts should be uploaded in the RAM website
(http://ees.elsevier.com/ram/) and they should include the
following separate files: Cover letter, Manuscript, Tables and
Figures.
Original articles. They are full research paper, which must
be submitted in accordance to the following sections: Title (in
Spanish
and English) and Short Title, Abstract and Keywords (in Spanish and English), Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results,
Discussion, Acknowledgements and References. Manuscripts
shall not exceed 8,000 words including all the sections and shall
include a maximum of 6 tables or figures.
Brief reports. They are less extensive works. They include
case reports, descriptions of new techniques or equipment
based on conclusive experimental work. Manuscripts should not
be divided into sections and shall not exceed 3,000 words. References should be limited to 15 citations and a maximum of 3
tables and figures. Careful analysis of data presented should be
observed so as to avoid their repetition in the text, tables and
figures, in order to maintain the typical concision in style that
characterizes this type of articles.
Special articles. They are updates or workshop results on
topics of regional and international weight. Their authors must
be specialists in their field of study. Texts must include updated
and comprehensive bibliography. Updates may include up to
10,000 words, 8 tables or figures. References should be limited
to 100 bibliographic citations.
Microbiological images. They may include high-quality pictures of bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses, from direct observation or staining under optical, electronic or fluorescent
microscopy. They may also include other photographic images
of microorganisms in culture media, lesions in humans or laboratory animals, x-ray and ultrasound images, computed tomography scans, nuclear magnetic resonance, etc. These images
having great instructional value though not necessarily groundbreaking, should be accompanied by an explanatory text and
indicating arrows when necessary. The text should not exceed
300 words. Quality requirements for images are described under the “Figures” section below.
Letters to the Editor. Letters can include either comments
or new data. The comments consist in observations made on
the articles published in the journal; the latter are aimed at
communicating short pieces of work, which do not have the
appropriate length to be published as a complete work or brief
report. Both contributions must not exceed 500 words, they
should include the title in Spanish and English, they must not
have an abstract, and may contain only one figure or table.
The authors’ affiliations should be placed at the bottom of the
letter. Only the primary affiliation of each author should be
indicated. The comments should mention the volume and issue number where the article was published, as well as the
complete title and the first author’s last name. Furthermore,
the sender should mention the bibliographical references that
support the letter contents. In order to publish a comment,
the corresponding author of the published article will be first
consulted the final decision and publication will remain at the
editor‘s discretion.
Contributions of new facts will be submitted to a specialist
editor with knowledge in the subject matter, who along with
external reviewers will assess the information. It should be noted that some journal indexing services do not include Letters to
the Editor in their databases.
INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
Editorials. They focus on current scientific topics of special
relevance to the scientific community specialized in Microbiology, or are opinion works on scientific policies. This section is
the sole domain of the Editorial Board, who will determine editorial policy and authorship, as well as the general guidelines.
Supplements. They will consist of detailed reviews of a specific subject conducted by one or several scientific organizations or universities, as well as abstracts of contributions presented at scientific meetings or universities organized by the
Asociación Argentina de Microbiología or any of its divisions or
branches (oral communications, boards, lectures, round tables,
etc.), and chaired by guest editors. Topics to be considered in
the supplements and general outlines should be approved by
the Editorial Board.
Revision of manuscripts under the Supplements section will
be in charge of reviewers appointed by the Editorial Board in
the case of extensive reviewing, and of guest editors in the
case of abstracts of meetings. Supplements will be wholly financed by the body organizing the scientific meeting, which
will bear in mind that supplements should be distributed among
participants to the meetings and all members of the Asociación
Argentina de Microbiología either by subscription or on-line.
As regards style and format, supplements shall strictly conform to the standards of Revista Argentina de Microbiología
in all respects (cover, paper quality, printing, tables and figures, illustrations, etc.), as described in the “Instructions to
Authors” section. Supplements corresponding to abstracts of
meetings shall include the following information in this order:
names of members of the Editorial Board of Revista Argentina
de Microbiología, data about the event (complete title, venue
and date), content list of meetings (in Spanish and English),
acknowledgements, names of organizing officers and message
delivered by the Chair/s. Abstracts consecutively numbered in
Arabic numerals as from 1 (one) should subsequently follow.
An alphabetical index of authors and the English and Spanish
versions of the instructions to authors of Revista Argentina de
Microbiología should be printed next. The meeting schedule
will only be included in the Supplement as a separate leaflet.
All manuscript should include the respecitve ethics statements, when necessary.
PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS
Manuscripts should be written in A4 paper format with 3 cm
margins on each side, using Times New Roman font, regular,
12, and double-spaced. Bold and italics printing types should
be used when necessary. Counting from the abstract section
of the manuscript onwards, all pages should be consecutively
numbered in the lower right margin, as well as the manuscript
lines indicated. This shall also apply to text, tables, figures,
legends and references. Pages including tables, figures and legends shall be included after the References section.
Front or title page. The first page shall include the manuscript title using capitals only for the first letter and lowercase for the rest of the title, the author’s names (complete
first name, initials of other names and surname of all authors);
place of work (institution name and mailing address), and a
short title of the work with a maximum of 50 characters as
running head. If authors have different working places, the
institutional affiliation of each author shall be indicated with
superscript letters added to their names. The name of the
corresponding author shall be marked by an asterisk in superscript position next to his/her name. The corresponding author’s e-mail shall also be included. If one or several authors
have changed his/her/their affiliation, the current affiliation
where work was performed should be indicated and the current place of work in a footer.
Acknowledgments. This section should be written in a single
paragraph including all funding sources and the names of individuals or institutions that participated in data discussion or
collaborated in the provision of reagents and biological samples.
Abstracts. They will only be included in original articles,
brief reports and special articles and shall have a maximum of
250 words for original and special articles, and 150 words for
brief reports. The first abstract will be written in the language
used in the work and the second in the other language. It shall
be headed by the complete title of the work. Abstracts shall be
followed by a list of three to six key words in the corresponding
language. Abbreviations and bibliographic citations should be
avoided. The abstract should be written in a clear and concise manner that will reflect the aim, results and conclusions of
the work since it may be published separately in bibliographic
sources.
Introduction. It should provide sufficient and relevant information on the topic to be analyzed to allow the understanding
of non-specialized readers. It should also include the hypothesis
or scientific background that guided the experimental layout of
the work as well as its clearly defined objectives. References
mentioned in this section should be the most relevant ones with
respect to the topic and must be carefully chosen.
Materials and Methods. This section should include an accurate and detailed description of the methods, equipment,
reagents and procedures used, so that the experiments could
be replicated. Frequently used or routine procedures and
techniques may be mentioned by specific reference (eg. MIC
determination by the CLSI methods, 2013). New methods or
those especially developed for the study should be described
in detail, as well as infrequent drug sources or biological materials (bacterial, viral, fungal strains and plasmids, etc.).
Trademarks and origin of reagents, culture means and equipment should be indicated in the text the first time they are
mentioned, identifying the commercial brand name, state and
country of origin.
Results. It should include the experimental layout and its scientific background as well as the results obtained presented
in a concise way preferably as text, or as table/s or figure/s).
Unnecessary use of tables and figures to mention data should be
avoided when they could be included in the text. Do not repeat
the same information in the text and in the tables or figures.
Limit the number of photographs to the minimum necessary to
support experimental results. Number the tables and figures in
the order they are mentioned in the text. Avoid repetitions and
include only most relevant data. In-depth interpretation will be
included in the Discussion section.
Discussion. Emphasis should be placed on important cuttingedge findings; experimental data should be examined in the
light of previously published works. Conclusions should be presented avoiding unnecessary repetition of data and concepts
already included in preceding sections. Results and Discussion
can be presented as a joint section.
References. It is convenient that 70% whenever possible of
bibliographic citations in all manuscripts correspond to the last
10 years and the remaining 30% be distributed in key references
from previous years. Names of authors cited shall be listed in
alphabetical order and numbered in sequence with Arabic numerals on a separate page. Citations in the text should appear
as superscript numbers, to coincide with the number they have
in the References section. Reference to personal comments and
un-published works should be presented as personal communication, written between parentheses.
References should include the name of all the authors and
conform to the following models:

Tables. They should be included on separate files, consecutively numbered with Arabic numerals, preceded by an explanatory title, with captions and/or the corresponding explanations
below. Reference marks for explanations in the form of footnotes shall use superscript letter. Lines shall only be used in
the external borders of the first and last row, and to separate
the headings of the columns from the data. Rows and column
borders shall not be inserted.
Figures. They will be included on separate files with the
figure number in the upper left margin and in the order they
are mentioned in the text. Drawings should be clear enough to
ensure suitable reproduction. Numbers, letters and signs shall
have the adequate size to be readable once reduced as needed. References to symbols used in the figures shall be included
within the same figure and not in the text legend. Photographs
may be in color or black and white, following Elsevier instructions. Minimum photo resolution requirements are 300 dpi for
color and grayscale images and photo prints, 600 dpi for combined art images (letters and images) and 1200 dpi for images
composed of lines (graphs and drawings). Note: It is very important to use the adequate file resolution. All individual images
imported in a graphic file should be in the correct resolution
before uploading them. Bear in mind that the higher the resolution, the larger the file and the longer it will take to send it
electronically. Captions to the illustrations should be included
on a separate page, in consecutive order using Arabic numerals. It is recommended to format the figures to the desired final

size, taking into account a maximum width of 8 or 16 centimeters, for 1 or 2 columns respectively.
Aminoacid and nucleic acid sequences. New sequences informed by publication in this journal should be deposited in a
database and their accession number included in the manuscript, no later than revision stage. The mentioned accession
numbers should be included in a separate paragraph at the end
of the Materials and Methods section in the case of original
works or at the end of the text in the case of brief reports.
Abbreviations. They must be made explicit when mentioned
for the first time in the text. Units of measurements will be

SUBMITTANCE OF MANUSCRIPTS
Authors should revise the checklist file and verify that all requirements have been met. Manuscripts should be uploaded in the RAM
website (http://ees.elsevier.com/ram/) including the following
separate files: Cover letter, Manuscript, Tables and Figures.
EDITORIAL PROCESS
Once the processing has been completed and the manuscript is
ready for publication, the authors will receive an e-mail containing a .pdf file with the galley proofs to proceed with the
typographical corrections following Elsevier instructions.
Revista Argentina de Microbiología follows the policies for
clinical trials registration of the World Health Organization
(WHO) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), acknowledging the importance of those initiatives
for the international dissemination of information on clinical
research in open access format. Therefore, only articles referring to trials previously registered with an identifying number
in one of the Clinical Trial Registers that meet WHO and ICMJE
requirements will be accepted for publication. Their addresses are available in the ICJME site. The identifying registration
number shall be published at the end of the abstract.
PROCESSING CHARGES
Articles submitted will be charged based on the type of publication; the extension and format of manuscripts will have to
follow the instructions indicated above.
