W hat we learn about being "God's Servants in the world" this weekend is that there are NO boundaries to God's people who need our service. The distinctions we like to make are "our issues," not God's. So, "Squander your service!" seems to be the order of the day. Isaiah knows a God Who opens His house to ALL--NO ONE is barred. Jesus teaches His disciples that Arabs, not just Jews, are to be served and welcomed. A lot of ink has been spilt over this vignette in Jesus' life: was He xenophobic? Or, was He using the "general prejudice of the day" to teach His disciples? Or, another possibility, it is the Arab woman who teaches the Son of God about the immensity of God's love and mercy! Read it as you like, but however you read it, read God's love as broader than you are comfortable with. When you are "uncomfortable" with God's welcoming acceptance, you're on the right track! So, God's Servants simply slug on, knowing that we will always be playing "catch up" to God's already bountiful forgiveness and reconciliation. -Fr. - Padre Bill Axe WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WAY St Agatha is a special place, where we are touched daily by God’s presence among us. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others..” - Marianne Williamson To build and foster a Christian Community that offers the opportunity to experience God God’s ’s unconditional love and acceptance to all who come into contact with it. P t seems to be a fundamental feature of human communities that, to one degree or another, we divide the world into "us" and "them". We distinguish between family members and non-family, those who are citizens and those who are not, those who belong to the Church and those who do not. In some ways, this is simply what it means to belong, and it need not imply any negative judgment by "us" against "them". arece ser una condición fundamental humana de separar el “nosotros” y “aquellos.” In today's Gospel an outside approaches Jesus. At first, Jesus observes the ancient distinction between Jew and Gentile, even insulting her. In doing so he awakens in the woman that which can overcome all of our human distinctions - faith!! Jesus praises her faith and heals her daughter. The good news we hear from Jesus is that faith can unite us across all human divisions. It is faith in God's mercy and goodness that unites us all. Let's try to remember that in our dealings with each other and those who may look different than us. Chris Onyenobi Padre Chris Onyenobi Ibadan Archdiocese is founded by the Irish Missionary (SMA) and is a minority in a Muslim dominated community. A poor archdiocese most of whose parishes are located in the rural areas where there are poor supply of drinkable water and scarcely electricity. Her problems has been compounded by the recent terrorist persecution of the church in which churches are burnt, thousands killed, thousands of families had been displaced and as a result our handicap homes and orphanages are over-filled, many are stranded maintaining them has been almost a difficult task. Fr. Chris Onyenobi, the representative of the Archdiocese will be coming next weekend to share their experiences on this task and to ask for our support. Ministry Summertime, safe time All teachers, staff and volunteers in the Archdiocese must undergo fingerprinting and criminal background checks. Archdiocesan guidelines and abuse prevention training programs currently in use in the Archdiocese emphasize the importance of parents knowing who has access to their children at school and other church-sponsored activities. Summertime is here, and parents should remain vigilant regarding who is granted access to their children. Make sure camp counselors have undergone criminal background checks. And, make sure you know the camp’s “daily routine.” In particular, make sure that no camp activity results in a child being left alone with one adult. All activities should be supervised by more than one adult, and the camp should be open to unannounced drop-in visits from parents. For more information email: Dn.
