Don Cowan Fine Arts Center, University of Texas at Tyler “Brian and Marty are not only consummate professionals in their field, they are delightful performers and lovely human beings.” —Christina Steelman, Ex. Dir., Springfield Area Arts Council, Springfield, IL “…a unique, unsurpassed playing style and superb lyric talent coupled with an enchanting vocal clarity.” —Cameron Ross, Assistant Chief of Staff, Land Force Central Area Headquarters, Ontario, Canada Switchback – American Roots – Celtic Soul The talent of Martin McCormack and Brian FitzGerald is a musical partnership that results in an exciting and entertaining duo…Switchback. Think guitar, mandolin, vocals and some good Irish humor and you have Switchback entertaining audiences world-wide. Having been chosen by legendary County Kerry composer and concertina master, Terrence “Cuz” Teahan, Marty and Brian joined his traditional Irish group, thus becoming part of one of the last generations to be directly influenced by a master of this musical genre. Their first album was literally a commercial success with Chevrolet using one of the songs to promote the Chevy Blazer. Switchback’s music – 11 original albums to date – is frequently played on radio stations such as RTE Radio One in Dublin with Pat Kenny as the host. The Americana Sessions and Celtic Sessions programs, produced by an Emmy Award-winning staff of WTTW, Chicago, can be seen on PBS Television throughout the United States. Their highly energetic and engaging performances have made them headliners from Nashville to County Mayo, Ireland. Sometimes known as “the duo who sounds like eight people,” Switchback has become festival favorites, entertaining large audiences at festivals from Canada to over 15,000 at the Summer Celebration in Muskegon, Michigan. Their orchestral presentations of traditional and original Irish music with the 75 member Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra received standing ovations. Switchback also offers educational programs and songwriting workshops for school and community organizations. The duo often customizes programs to fit the curriculum of the presenter. Elementary through high school are the settings for their spirited programs. Switchback features an Americana show that is original and traditional. It is performed in an exciting style unique to Switchback. Brian and Marty perform their brand of Americana Folk Songs as they define what that form of music encompasses. Always a crowd pleaser, Switchback’s Americana includes stories of their travels, audience participation and a healthy dose of comedy thrown in for good measure. Whatever they play, no matter the size or age of the audience, Switchback always captivates and charms folks with their energy and creativity. Great Music! Good Irish Humor! Have you ever been to an opera where the words were projected up on the screen as the soprano is singing in Italian? Well, without it, the opera would still be beautiful, but it really does help give the performance extra meaning. That’s the idea behind Switchback’s big shows. By big show, we mean our two special performances that are accompanied by stunning visual scenes that play behind Brian and Marty as they perform. The Celtic Show has beautiful views of Ireland that have been taken during the many Switchback tours. The Americana Show has photos taken from around the upper Mississippi region, which is where Brian lives. Both shows consist of two 45-mmute segments of scenery that are projected behind the band. Each scene dissolves into another glorious view that enhances the impact of a Switchback program. As one fan said after the Celtic show, “I felt like I was transported to Ireland.” First used at the request of Susan Thomae-Morphew, director of the University of Texas at Tyler’s R Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, the visual presentation made the big show a huge success. As Susan said, it created “an additional dimension in our vast hall. The performance is warm, energetic and pure excellence.” And another option for our big shows is the addition of dancers who can perform Celtic dancing or some good American clogging. Dancing to traditional as well as original Switchback songs, the dancers help create a dynamic performance that will have your patrons asking for a repeat performance. Give us a call and we can help you get the BIG SHOW to your Performing Arts Center. BIG IS BEAUTIFUL! Arizona - Payson Office Hawaii Office Arizona - Tucson Office Patricia Alberti 1912 E.
