Misticismo, geometría y multitud de colores
se fusionan en las máscaras tribales de David Gómez Maestre (Alicante, 1984), joven
artista alicantino que mezcla fotografía, ilustración y una alta dosis de imaginación
en sus sorprendentes creaciones.
En su Blog encontramos fotografías y retratos de su tribu, todos identificados por los
inconfundibles ornamentos y símbolos derivados de rotuladores salvajes que solo él
sabe dominar con maestría.
Iconos Pop de la talla de Michael Jackson,
Freddy Mercury o Amy Winehouse, cineastas de renombre como Woody Allen, diseñadores de moda como Karl Lagerfeld e
incluso actores porno gays como François
Sagat componen el imaginario de este joven artista.
Sus ilustraciones, inicialmente inspiradas en
los rostros de amigos, son actualmente verdaderas imágenes trendies comentadas en
distintos magazines y blogs de tendencias

colors come together in the tribal masks
of David Gómez Maestre (Alicante, 1984),
the young artist from Alicante who brings
together photography, illustration and a
good dose of imagination in his surprising
creations.
In his blog we can find photographs and
portraits of his tribe, all identified by their
unmistakable ornaments and symbols derived from his savage felt-tip pens, which
only he knows how to use in his inimitable
way.
Pop icons such as Michael Jackson, Freddy
Mercury or Amy Winehouse, cinema directors like Woody Allen, designers such as
Karl Lagerfeld and even gay porn actors
like François Sagat make up the imaginary
world of this young artist.
His illustrations, initially inspired from the
faces of friends, are currently real image

“Estaba trabajando en mi proyecto final de
carrera, en Bellas Artes, y empecé con una
serie de retratos a mi familia y amigos más
cercanos. Al ver la reacción de la gente
continué trabajando en ellos, y todavía
sigo, no puedo parar. Es como mi adicción
al chocolate.”
Un estilo pop y naïve, donde los “espacios
en blanco” en la pintura de sus retratos son
“totalmente intencionados, es como si lo
rellenaran niños pequeños” - explica riendo… “por eso siempre pinto con rotulador
para conseguir ese efecto”.
“En un principio me fijaba en como se pintaban tribus como los Surma, los Mursi,
los Banna y los Hamer, pero luego ya me
salían mis propios maquillajes”, destaca
David Gómez Maestre. “Es la parte del
proceso en la que más disfruto”.
Actualmente David acaba de presentar su
colección de camisetas con un video/presentación dirigido por la productora Barcelonesa CANADÁ.

“I was working on my end of degree project for Fine Arts, and began a series of
portraits of my close family and friends.
Seeing the reaction of people to this, I
went on working on them, and still do, I
just can’t stop. It’s the same as a chocolate
addiction.”

spaces” in the paint surface of his portraits
are “completely intentioned, just as if they
had been filled in by young kids” - he explains laughing... “this is why I always paint
with felt-tip pens to get this effect”.
“In the beginning I looked carefully at how
Surma, Mursi, Banna and Hamer tribes
painted, but later my own particular style
of make-up evolved”, insists David Gómez
Maestre. “It’s the part of the process I enjoy most”.

La quinta muestra de ESPAI TACTEL, WELCOME
TO THE TRIBE, by David Gómez Maestre, tuvo
lugar el Viernes 11 de Noviembre de 2011 a las
20:00 horas en la C/ Denia 25-B del Barrio de
Ruzafa de Valencia con una asistencia de más
de 300 personas.
