EQUAL TO GOD JESUS EMPTIED HIMSELF AND TOOK THE HUMAN FORM OF A SLAVE TO THE POINT OF DEATH ON A CROSS COMPLETELY CONVINCED OF THE GOSPEL MESSAGE Our charismatic, confident pope, Francis, leads Holy Week asking the church to live beyond is customary organic and hierarchical institution to be a people on the way to God, the pilgrim and evangelizing people that always exceeds ritual expression – a Church that has the mercy of God as its central theme and activity. “With all my heart I ask you to read the Beatitudes as your plan of action. Matthew 25 tells us specifically what we have to do” says Pope Francis. We are created in the image and likeness of God who extended mercy to Christ who suffered on the cross as a slave charged with treason to the Roman emperor and an outspoken prophet to the temple priests. Like St. Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis combines continuity with the great tradition of the Church with renewal and ever new surprises. He wants “a poor church for the poor.” The pope’s radical program involves all of us walking the via cruces, humble and devout, to move continents and mountains by a revolution of tenderness and love. Palm Sunday is the origin of this Gospel as a way forward, a revolution of mercy. We welcome Jesus to our city as he takes the form of the victims of neighborhood drive-by shootings, car-jackings, and heroine youth. Our advocacy efforts will be blessed by the Father’s mercy in our time. PARISH DIRECTORY PASTOR Monsignor Russell E. Vol. 182 No. 18 As we move along in our Lenten journey and recall Christ's passion today, I'd like to share a quote from Pope Francis that speaks to our tough times, our desert moments, and how important our witness and hope is for others: "In the desert people of faith are needed who, by the example of their own lives, point out the way to the Promised Land and keep hope alive. In these situations we are called to be living sources of water from which others can drink. At times, this becomes a heavy cross, but it was from the cross, from his pierced side, that our Lord gave himself to us as a source of living water. Let us not allow ourselves to be robbed of hope!" (Evangelii Guadium # 86) How is God asking you to be a source of life and hope for someone this week? Blessings, Sr. Lorraine Operation Rice Bowl/ Plato de Arroz CRS asks us, to prayerfully enter into our own communities, to find those who are hungry and thirsty, who need our help. Rice Bowls will be collected on Holy Thursday, and can be put in the collection basket during the offertory. GOING TO COLLEGE? You needn’t feel a drift! Bendiciones,Hna. Lorraine March 30th is National Doctors’ Day.
