Dear!CPS!Families,!
As!you!may!have!heard,!the!Chicago!Teachers!Union!(CTU)!has!declared!a!“Day!of!Action”!on!April!1,!
2016.!!While!there!are!still!unanswered!questions!about!what!this!day!will!look!like,!we!know!that!CTU!
leadership!has!proposed!an!illegal!oneMday!strike,!asking!teachers!to!leave!their!classrooms!empty!and!take!to!
the!streets.!!To!explain!this!divisive!action,!CTU!President!Karen!Lewis!asked!teachers!and!families!to!think!of!
this!oneMday!strike!as!“an!extra!holiday.”!
This!uncertainty!has!caused!confusion!and!concern,!and!as!a!parent,!you!have!a!right!to!know!whether!there!will!
be!school!that!day!and!how!to!plan.
We!take!our!responsibility!to!our!students!and!their!families!very!seriously.!!We!will!know!more!after!the!CTU!
House!of!Delegates!votes!on!the!strike!on!March!23,!2016.!!Between!now!and!then,!we!will!evaluate!how!to!best!
provide!a!safe!environment!for!our!students!and!will!consider!the!best!course!of!action!once!we!have!all!of!the!
information.
To!understand!all!your!options!on!April!1,!we!encourage!you!to!speak!with!your!childcare!provider!and!employer!
to!create!any!necessary!contingency!plans.

Estimadas!familias!de!CPS,

Como!deben!!haber!escuchado,!el!Sindicato!de!Maestros!de!Chicago!(CTU)!ha!declarado!un!“Día!de!acción”!para!
el!1!de!abril!de!2016.!Aunque!todavía!hay!muchas!preguntas!sin!respuesta!sobre!lo!que!significará!ese!día,!
sabemos!que!los!líderes!sindicales!han!propuesto!un!paro!ilegal!de!un!día,!solicitando!a!los!maestros!que!
abandonen!los!salones!y!salgan!a!las!calles.!Para!explicar!esta!acción!divisiva,!la!presidenta!de!CTU,!Karen!Lewis,!
ha!pedido!que!maestros!y!familias!piensen!en!el!paro!de!un!día!como!si!fuera!“un!feriado!extra”.!
Esta!incertidumbre!ha!provocado!confusión!y!preocupación,!y!como!padres,!ustedes!tienen!el!derecho!de!saber!
si!habrá!clases!ese!día,!para!hacer!sus!planes.
Tomamos!muy!en!serio!nuestra!responsabilidad!con!los!estudiantes!y!sus!familias.!Vamos!a!saber!más!después!
