The music is copied using low clefs in the source and is here transposed up a perfect fourth: in addition, the
Tenor 2 part is missing in its entirety, and has been supplied by the editor.
Like most early Tudor Magnificats, Taverner’s setting is based on a faburden, in this case that to the second
tone, first ending. The surviving voices make clear allusions to it at various points, and it fits in the Tenor 2
part virtually unadorned at ‘Fecit potentiam’.
