BEAR NEWS:
eLEARNING DAYS in BCSC
The BCSC calendar has 5 built in snow days. On the 6th snow day, BCSC will institute eLearning days,
rather than adding days to the end of the school year.
Please fill out the attached E-Learning survey and return to Taylorsville Elementary school.
This will give us an idea of your needs if we make it to the 6th snow make up day for an Elearning day.
Due to the Snow Day on January 11th, we will now have school on Friday March 25 th.
BOX TOPS
We wanted to let you know that our PTO will be running a contest in January/February, so we encourage
you to save your box tops! We will share more details after the holidays, but we wanted you to know to be
saving them for now!
DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. HOLIDAY – STUDENT CONTESTS
We have attached this information the last two weeks, but we wanted to let parents know that students can
choose to participate in these contests outside of school as well. Mrs. Dolan will be working with 3rd grade
in class, but any student can submit an entry! BCSC Schools will be closed on Monday, January 18 in
observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr holiday.
JUST A REMINDER FROM MRS. DOLAN’S ART CLASS
Mrs. Dolan is keeping the best art work of students to be used for Art to Remember in March, along with
our Art Show in May. Also, during the month of February, you can find the artwork of Taylorsville students
displayed at the Kids Commons on the first flow. More info to come! Thank you for supporting out growing
artists. They have worked so hard this first semester!

SCHOOLWIDE LEARNING OUTCOMES (SWLO)
Our SWLO focus this week was:
I am an Expert Learner because I am Purposeful and Motivated
I can choose the best option(s) to recruit my interest in the learning experience.
WE BELIEVE
Some ways that teachers help to recruit student interest are:
* Provide student choice when possible
* Provide tasks that allow for active participation, exploration and experimentation
* Create an accepting and supportive classroom climate
This week’s SWLO is again for all students in Grades K-6. We encourage you to ask your child about the
different products students choose to demonstrate their learning!
GROWTH MINDSET
Continue instilling a growth mindset in your child. Only after effort, hard work, and failing does success follow!
5 Parenting Strategies to Help Develop a Growth Mindset.
Growth Mindset Sentence Stems
Rather than praising children/students for “being smart” or completing a
task quickly, try to praise effort and persistence. The sentence stems
below encourage students to take on new challenges, rather than to fear
failure.
• I like that you took on that challenging project!
• It will take a lot of work, but you’re going to learn a lot of great things.
• I’m really excited you are stretching yourself and working to learn hard things.
• I really admire the way you concentrated and finished that.
• That picture has so many beautiful colors. Tell me about them.
• You put so much thought into this.
• The passion you put into that gives me a real feeling of joy. How do you feel
about it?
• Whoops. I guess that was too easy. I apologize for wasting your time. Let’s
do something you can really learn from.
• I can see you are working hard. You must feel proud.
• I can see you put a lot of effort into that.
• I liked the effort you put in, but let’s work together some more and figure
out what it is you don’t understand.
• It may take more time for you to catch on to this and be comfortable with
this material, but if you keep at it like this you will.
• Everyone learns in a different way. Let’s keep trying to find the way that

NOTICIAS OSO:
DIAS de eAPRENDER en BCSC
El calendario de la BCSC incluye 5 días de nieve. En el sexto día, BCSC implementara el día de eAprender,
en lugar de añadir días de clases al final del año escolar.
Por favor complete la encuesta eAprendizaje anexa y devuélvala a la escuela Primaria
Taylorsville. Esto nos dará una idea de sus necesidades si después del 6to dia de nieve
tenemos que implementar un día de eAprendizaje.
Debido al Día de Nieve del 11 de Enero, tendremos clases el Viernes 25 de Marzo.
BOX TOPS
¡Le queremos informar que nuestro PTO prepara un concurso para Enero/Febrero, así que a guardar las
tapas de las cajas! ¡Compartiremos más información con ustedes después de las fiestas de fin de año, pero
queríamos que supieran para que comiencen a guardarlas desde ya.
DIA DEL DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. – CONCURSO ESTUDIANTIL
Les hemos anexado esta información las pasadas dos semanas, pero le queremos hacer saber a los padres
que los estudiantes también pueden escoger participar en estos concursos fuera de la escuela. ¡La Sra.
Dolan estará trabajando con el 3er grado en clase, pero cualquier estudiante puede enviar su trabajo! Las
escuelas del BCSC estarán cerradas el Lunes 18 de Enero, en cumplimiento del día en honor del Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr.
UN RECORDATORIO DE LA CLASE DE ARTE DE LA SRA.DOLAN
La Sra. Dolan está guardando los mejores trabajos de los estudiantes para usarlos para el Arte para
Recordar de Marzo y, junto a nuestro Show de Arte en Mayo. También, durante el mes de Febrero, usted
también podrá encontrar los trabajos de arte de los estudiantes de Taylorsville mostrados en el primer piso
del Kidscommon. ¡Vendrán más cosas! Gracias por su apoyo a nuestros jóvenes artistas. ¡Han trabajado
muy duro este primer semestre!

Nuestro foco SWLO esta semana fue:

Yo puedo determinar lo que necesito para regular mi aprendizaje.”

Algunas maneras para que los maestros ayuden a despertar el interés de los estudiantes son:
* Permitir, cuando se posible, que el estudiante escoja
* Asignar tareas que permitan la participación activa, la exploración y la experimentación
* Crear un ambiente de apoyo y aceptación en el salón de clases
Nuevamente el SWLO de esta semana es para los estudiantes de en Grados 1-6. Le pedimos que pregunte
a su niño las diferentes formas que utiliza para demostrar se aprendizaje

Continúe inculcando una mentalidad de crecimiento en su niño(a). Aquí esta una imagen de como realmente es

persistencia. Las frases que siguen animan a los estudiantes a tomar nuevos retos, en lugar de temer al
fracaso
• ¡Me gusto que tu tomaras ese proyecto tan retador!
• Sera duro pero vas a aprender muchas grandes cosas.
• Estoy realmente emocionado que te estás esforzando y trabajando para aprender cosas difíciles.
• Admiro la manera como te concentraste y terminaste eso.
• Ese cuadro tiene muchos bellos colores. Háblame de ellos.
