Is Everyone on the List?
Make sure that all your garden mates are on our list. Check to see if they
are receiving these emails, and if not, email their names and contact info
to Pat so they are listed with your plot. This will be especially important
next year, as it will give them priority as returning gardeners to obtain their
own plots.
Grow Food Northampton Seedling Sale
Are you looking for tomato, pepper, lettuce, kale, or basil seedlings to
plant in your plot? We are offering certified organic seedlings in
several varieties to members of the Grow Food Northampton Organic
Community Garden. You must be able to pick them up at the garden
between 3-6PM on Sunday, May 22, or between 5-7PM or Monday,
May 23. Custom-grown at Red Fire Farm in Montague, these are healthy, highquality seedlings that are re-sold throughout Massachusetts by discriminating garden
supply and retail establishments. Supply is limited

online by credit card may select Check as the payment method during checkout, but
placing the order without payment obligates you to pay, even if you do not pick up
your seedlings.

Grow Food Northampton’s Fleet is Growing
Welcome the newest member of the Grow Food Northampton Fleet. Well, actually,
it’s the only member, but we’re quite
fond of her. Our new (to us) van was
purchased with the help of a generous
grant from the Harvard Pilgrim Health
Care Foundation to support our Food
Access Programs. This summer you’ll
see us loading produce at Crimson and
Clover Farm and the Giving Garden.
Produce will go to the Survival Center,
the Senior Center, Manna Soup Kitchen,
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Soup Kitchen, and Easthampton Community Center. In
September we will pilot the Red Bag School Shares program, delivering subsidized
CSA shares to eligible families at Jackson Street School The van is also used to tow
the market trailer for Tuesday Market.
Help Build Our New Timber-Frame Shed
It’s hard not to notice the bright orange temporary storage structure in the garden,
which now houses supplies for the Giving Garden. That will be replaced in July with
our new shed, which you can help build as part of a course in traditional timber
framing! We have just received Ag Department approval, so we’re ready to go. Site
preparation should begin in late June and early July, and the timber-framing class is
tentatively scheduled for July 16, 17, 23, and 24. If you are interested in the class,
please email Clem for more information on pricing and how to sign up as soon as the
dates are finalized.
What’s New in the Giving Garden?
There is a lot of work to do in the next few weeks to prep and plant the Giving
Garden. Regular work sessions are scheduled for Monday mornings, Wednesday
evenings and Saturday Mornings starting NOW. To sign up, click HERE.
Community Service
There are two ways to report your community service. We prefer that you email
your hours to Pat. Include date, task, and amount of time. OR you can fill out a
Community Service Report Card. Cards are located on the inside door of the shed in
Spanish and English. Complete the card and put it through the mail slot where
compost payments go.
Work Party Saturday, May 14, 10-12
Come when you can, leave when you must, help with a variety of projects around the
garden.
We need a Tee-pee Team
Actually, we need a Play Area Team who would like to take charge of tending the
play area, keeping it safe and useable, and coming up with new ideas for items and
plants. But right now the bean tee-pee in the Play Area has to be replaced and
planted. If you’re interested being part of a small team to take on this project, and
maybe the Play area as well, email Pat.
