COMMENTING ON A COCHRANE REVIEW: A DUAL
LANGUAGE WORKSHOP FOR CONSUMERS

Objetivos:
Ayudar a los usuarios (pacientes y ciudadanos) a entender la evidencia científica, trabajando en español e inglés, a
través del debate de (i) diferentes maneras de evaluar si los tratamientos de salud funcionan; (ii) por qué los ensayos
clínicos aleatorizados están considerados como la mejor manera de evaluar la efectividad de los tratamientos, (iii) la
importancia de las revisiones sistemáticas Cochrane y (iv) cómo leer y comentar una revisión sistemática Cochrane
desde una perspectiva de paciente o ciudadano.
Objectives:
To help consumers make sense of scientific evidence, working in both Spanish and English, through discussion of (i)
different ways of testing whether health treatments work; (ii) why randomised controlled trials are considered to be the
best way of assessing the effectiveness of treatments; (iii) the importance of systematic reviews and (iv) commenting
on a Cochrane review from a consumer perspective.
Descripción:
Este sencillo taller interactivo tiene como fin ayudar a los pacientes y ciudadanos a desarrollar las habilidades necesarias
para entender la evidencia científica y para leer y comentar una revisión sistemática Cochrane. Les ayudará a apreciar
la importancia de la atención sanitaria basada en la evidencia y a entender los ensayos clínicos aleatorizados. También
servirá para explicarles los problemas de la atención sanitaria basada en la evidencia. Los participantes podrán comentar,
en pequeños grupos, revisiones sistemáticas Cochrane usando una lista de evaluación recientemente modificada.
También podrán comentar esta lista, para que pueda seguir siendo desarrollada.
Description:
This friendly and interactive workshop aims to help consumers develop the skills needed to make sense of scientific
evidence and to comment on a Cochrane review. It will help consumers appreciate the importance of evidence-based
care and understand randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews. It will also assist in explaining issues around
evidence-based care in a way that consumers can understand. Part icipants will have an opportunity, in small groups,
to comment on a Cochrane review from a consumer perspective using a newly modified checklist. Furthermore, they
will have the opportunity to provide comments on the checklist too, so that it may be developed further.
