El Programa CONEXIONES de las Escuelas Públicas de Holyoke y el Teatro
Enchanted Circle Presenta Lectura en Vivo!
El 6 de diciembre de 2014, el Programa CONEXIONES de las Escuelas Públicas de Holyoke y el Teatro
Enchanted Circle presenta ¡Lectura en Vivo! en la Biblioteca Pública de Holyoke. Los estudiantes y sus padres
fueron ambos público y participantes en la actuación en este evento de gran éxito. Más de 100 padres de
familia, estudiantes y miembros de la familia llenaron la Sala de la Comunidad en la biblioteca, lo que hizo una
experiencia muy divertida y animada.
Kate Carreiro y Axel Cruz, Artistas de Enseñanza del Teatro Enchanted Circle, leyeron y realizaron dos libros.
¡Ellos involucraron a todos los padres y niños en el salon! Se animaron a los niños de todas las edades y niveles
escolares a pararse y moverse por el salón de la Comunidad como parte de las actuaciones de la historia. Los
padres disfrutaron viendo a sus hijos y uno declaró: "Es muy importante tener tiempo para la familia, no
importa lo ocupado que podrían ser nuestros horarios, y tenemos que animar a nuestros niños a leer." Otro padre
comentó: "Mi hijo tuvo un tiempo estupendo y espero llevarlo al próximo."
Varios otros padres que fueron encuestados dijeron que, "aprendieron nuevas maneras de hacer que sea más
divertido al leer" con sus hijos. Uno de los padres dijo que aprendió "cómo hacer una historia más interesante
mediante la representación de las partes. Hace que su hijo quiera saber más de la historia." El programa
CONEXIONES y el Teatro Enchanted Circle están encantados con la reacción positiva de los padres y los
estudiantes y el plan para llevar a cabo más eventos como éste en el futuro.
Muchos padres que asistieron al evento también firmaron el contrato HELI – (Iniciativa de Alfabetización
Temprana de Holyoke). Con la firma del contrato, estos padres confirmaron que ellos saben acerca de Holyoke
de "En Camino para el Aprendizaje" lista de indicadores, prometen hacer una cosa cada día para apoyar su
desarrollo de la alfabetización de los niños, y también prometen asegurarse de que su hijo / hijos van a la
escuela cada día. El contrato de Padres HELI reconoce que el apoyo de los padres es vital para el éxito de los
estudiantes, y es genial tener los nuevos padres que demuestren que ¡están a bordo con la iniciativa! Para más

CONEXIONES se complace en anunciar el próximo evento de la familia, que es un viaje al Museo de Arte del
Colegio Smith y el Jardín Botánico. Este evento gratuito se llevará a cabo el sábado, 14 de febrero de 10:00 am
a – 2:00 pm. Está disponible para los estudiantes de las Escuelas Públicas de Holyoke en los grados 2-5 y sus
familias, y contará con actividades divertidas como un recorrido por los jardines y la oportunidad de explorar el

The Holyoke Public Schools CONNECTIONS Program and the Enchanted
Circle Theater Present Reading Alive!
On December 6th, 2014, the Holyoke Public Schools CONNECTIONS Program and Enchanted Circle Theater
presented Reading Alive! at the Holyoke Public Library. Students and their parents were both audience and
participants in the performance at this hugely successful event. Over 100 parents, students, and family members
packed into the Community Room at the library, which made for a very fun and lively experience.
Kate Carreiro and Axel Cruz, Teaching Artists from Enchanted Circle Theater, read and performed two books.
They engaged every single parent and child in the room! Children of all ages and grade levels were encouraged
to get up and move about the Community room as part of the story performances. Parents enjoyed watching
their children and one stated, "It's very important to have family time no matter how busy our schedules might
be, and we need to encourage our children to read.” Another parent remarked, “My child had a great time and I
look forward to bringing her to the next one."
Several other parents who were surveyed said that they, “learned new ways to make it more fun when reading”
with their children. One parent stated she learned, "how to make a story more interesting by acting out parts. It
makes your child want to know about the story.” CONNECTIONS and Enchanted Circle Theater are thrilled
with the positive reaction of parents and students and plan to hold more events like this one in the future.
Many parents who attended the event also signed the HELI (Holyoke Early Literacy Initiative) contract. By
signing the contract, these parents confirmed that they know about Holyoke’s “On Track for Learning”
indicator list, promise to do one thing every day to support their child/children’s literacy development, and also
promise to make sure their child/children attend school every day. The HELI Parent contract recognizes that
parent support is vital for student success, and it is great to have new parents demonstrating that they are

CONNECTIONS is excited to announce the next family event, which is a trip to the Smith College Art Museum
and Botanical Gardens. This free event will take place on Saturday, February 14th, from 10am – 2pm. It is
available to Holyoke Public Schools students in grades 2-5 and their families, and will involve fun activities
such as a tour of the gardens and a chance to explore the art in the Smith Art Museum. Transportation and lunch
